Energy competition results in $23K savings
Goizueta Business School, School of Medicine Medical Education Building and the Woodruff Residential Center have been recognized as the winners of October's annual energy competition, sponsored by the Office of Sustainability Initiatives. Each building will receive $1,000 toward a sustainability-related prize.
Overall, the contest resulted in saving 293,894 kilowatt hours of electricity and 451,127 pounds of CO2 emissions. The challenge compared energy use among campus buildings from October 2010. Emory saw a $23,320 drop in utility costs from Oct. 1 to Oct. 31, 2011.
Energy saved
• Goizueta had a 10 percent reduction;
• Medical Education Building had a .8 percent reduction; and
• Woodruff Residential Center had a 20 percent reduction.
The friendly competition encourages faculty, students and staff to make behavioral changes in an effort to reach the goal of reducing energy use by 25 percent per square foot by 2015 from 2005 levels.
