It’s an old saying, oft heard around the campfire.  “East coast can beast most.”  Well, maybe that’s not really an expression, but there should be plenty of beasting on the east coast this weekend at College Terminus in Atlanta, Georgia.  Talented teams like Tufts, Ohio University, Ohio State, Central Florida, and many others will be competing at the brand new Georgia Soccer Park to bring home the trophy.  Stanford is the featured West Coast guest and hoping to crash the party.

Here is TD Jonathan Monforti’s take on the weekend:

I’m looking forward to hosting a great tournament for a solid group of teams.  The tournament field is stronger this year than in has been in the past 5-6 years, and I’m very excited about that.  Terminus will continue to strive to be a top quality tournament and provide college teams a great arena to compete against each other.

I’m really glad that we have some west coast representation this year with Stanford.  San Diego State was also going to make the trip to Atlanta, but had to pull out due to travel expenses; however, we hope that we see more west coast teams coming to Terminus in future years.

I’m also very excited to be able to host a women’s division again this year.  Last year we couldn’t put together a women’s division, but we worked hard this year to put together a women’s division for Terminus and the response has been overwhelming!  We actually had to expand the tournament from 10 to 12 teams!

Overall – I’m praying for good weather and a chance to see some great college teams clash at the fields on Saturday and Sunday!!

There is some chance of thunderstorms on Saturday that could delay games, as well as showers on Sunday.  Luckily, it should still be mid-70’s with moderate wind.

Teams to Watch

Tufts –  After kicking butt and winning Southerns, they are the team to beat.  But the field is wide open.  Stanford beat Tufts at the Stanford Invite, and Central Florida may get a chance to avenge their 13-10 loss to Tufts in Southern’s finals last week.  They’ll get their first challenge against Washington University, who won Midwest Throwdown earlier this month (and interestingly, is ranked 4 spots ahead of Tufts in the USAU’s college rankings)

Ohio State – Of their four losses so far this year, two have come from rival Ohio University.  If these two teams win out, they’ll meet for another rematch in the semis on Sunday.  Ohio State’s only other losses this season are to Florida and Michigan.  Not a bad resume.  They’ll meet a tough UCF team that won the Tally Classic and made it to the finals at Southerns.

Ohio University – OU is ranked an impressive #10 in the USAU’s college rankings, as well as #16 in Skyd’s rankings.  Pool play should be interesting.  They ended Easterns last week with a 12-10 win over North Carolina-Wilmington, and it looks like they’ll end this Saturday playing them again.  Their second game of the day against Stanford is a must-see.  Stanford has beaten Tufts, Cal, and Whitman so far this year and could take this pool by storm.  This game may decide Pool B.

There are many more teams to watch and a lot of great ultimate to be played.  Look forward to a great UPA-sanctioned tournament with lined fields, trainers tent, and observers.
