HUNTSVILLE, Alabama - Donning an orange shirt Wednesday, registering for a walk or signing up to volunteer at a local event are just a few suggestions to support the National Multiple Sclerosis Society's efforts for 2011 Awareness Week.

The Alabama-Mississippi Chapter of the National MS Society is asking people to participate in WOW -- Wear Orange Wednesday -- to help raise awareness about multiple sclerosis, a debilitating and chronic disease of the central nervous system affecting the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body.

Walk MS, the organization's annual national fundraiser, kicks off in both Mobile and Tuscaloosa March 26 with Huntsville's walk following April 2. Other statewide walks include the River Region MS Walk in Montgomery, which is also April 2, and Birmingham's walk on April 9.

All walks help support services for more than 4,200 people living with MS in Alabama and to fund research for a cure. If you are interested in a walk, visit walkMS.org for registration information, locations and dates.
