A&E’s new drama Breakout Kings premiered Sunday night to strong numbers for the cable network.
The drama — about fugitives helping the police catch other fugitives and originally developed for Fox — delivered 2.8 million total viewers.
In the ad-favored adult 18-49 demographic, Kings (1.5 million) was up 25 percent compared with A&E’s The Glades (1.2 million) launch in July of last year. In the 25-54 demo, 1.6 million tuned in for Kings, while Glades drew 1.4 million.
Both are records for an A&E original drama series, but summer series Glades still topped Kings in total tune-in, launching with 3.5 million viewers. Glades returns this summer for Season 2.
The series stars Laz Alonso, Serinda Swan (who will be introduced in the next episode), Jimmi Simpson, Brooke Nevin, Malcolm Goodwin and Domenick Lombardozzi.
