No More Mr. Nice Jedi as Clone Wars Delves Into Evil

Anakin Skywalker wrestles with visions of his tragic galactic future in “Ghosts of Mortis,” the final chapter of The Clone Wars thrilling “Mortis” arc.

Lucasfilm’s celestial prison planet Mortis has been striking in its visual and narrative ambition. Featuring fearsome characters that exist further outside of The Force than any previously seen in Star Wars’ sprawling franchise, the three-episode storyline is foreshadowing at its finest. Watching its godlike inhabitants wave off lightsabers without effort while tossing Obi-Wan and Ahsoka aside is a fascinating bonus.

But the greatest asset of the “Mortis” story is its foundational importance in Anakin’s devolution to the dark side. After the arc concludes, we’ll see less of the happy-go-lucky Force virtuoso and more of the tortured sellout who ends up slaughtering younglings in Revenge of the Sith.
