Adam Lambert has revealed that he will be performing on American Idol next week.

The 'Whataya Want From Me' star told followers on his Twitter account that he would be singing a track taken from his debut album For Your Entertainment.

"Hey guess what?! I will be performing 'Aftermath' on American Idol on Thursday, March 10!" he wrote. "Gonna take it down acoustic style."

He added that the remixed track will be available on his official website the same day, with proceeds going to the The Trevor Project.

The 29-year-old, who was recently nominated for a Grammy Award, finished runner-up to Kris Allen on the Fox competition's eighth season.

This Thursday's episode of American Idol saw the Top 13 finalists named, with the public choosing five girls and five boys, and judges Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson naming a further three wildcard picks.

They will take to the stage on Wednesday to perform songs by their favourite artists, before the results show on Thursday. Diddy-Dirty Money and Skylar Grey will also perform during the elimination episode.

American Idol airs Wednesdays and Thursdays on Fox.
