Increasing resilience in our farms and families will be the focus of the 2019 High Plains Crop Convention.

Speakers from University of Wyoming, Colorado State University and local producers will address ways we can become more resilient as the many stress factors affecting families and operations involved in agriculture continue to increase.

On Monday, November 25th, join us for a full day Rural Mental Health Support Training being offered by our Keynote Speaker, Ted Matthews. Ted is the Director of Minnesota Rural Mental Health and has been working with families for two decades. This training is for people who work with farm and ranch families on a regular basis to help them recognize and respond when they see farmers experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, and other challenges.

The training will take place at the Goshen County 4-H Building on the Goshen County Fairgrounds. The charge to attend the training will be $75 per person and will include lunch.

On Tuesday, the convention will begin with a keynote address from Ted Matthews, He will discuss the realities of stress, anxiety and depression in agriculture today. Ted will also be available for free one on one counseling sessions during the convention.

Continuing the theme of resilience, the convention will consist of two concurrent sessions with topics including coping with stress and anxiety in creating your Ag Legacy, resilience strategies during disasters, and an update from the Wyoming Farm Bureau Young Farmer and Rancher committee on their efforts to build this program and create a network for our young producers.

Other topics will include disease and pest updates, an introduction to growing hemp in Wyoming, updates on alfalfa weevil and alternative crops research, and much more. Steve Koontz, Agricultural Marketing Expert from Colorado State University, will also provide a Crop market update.
