Owner and hotel queen Leona Helmsley, who died in 2007, had left dog $12m, later cut to $2m by judge

The millionaire dog of hotel queen Leona Helmsley has died. The Helmsley family trust has announced that 12-year-old Trouble, a Maltese, had died on 13 December and had been cremated.

Trouble became famous when Helmsley, who died in 2007 at 87, left the dog $12m; a judge trimmed the bequest to $2m. Helmsley was the widow of Harry Helmsley and helped run their hotel and property empire. She served 21 months in prison for evading federal taxes.

Trust spokeswoman Eileen Sullivan would not say how much was left of Trouble's money but said that what remained went into the trust.
