January 2019- Happy 2019! Each new year brings the chance to reflect on how far you've come and envision what you still want to achieve. Here at IMPACTdmv, we're proud to say that we've come a long way. 2018 was a year of growth and accomplishment. We officially received our 501(c)3 designation, which was a huge step toward increasing our programming and strengthening our credibility. By the time the year was up, we'd connected with and provided services to nearly 1,000 adolescents and young adults. In short, we made an IMPACT. But we didn't do it alone. Our work wouldn't be possible without the support of sponsors and partners — such as UPS and City of Praise Family Ministries — as well as everyday people who've donated time and money to our mission. For that, we're thankful. And this is just the beginning! So this year, as we resolve to continue impacting young lives, I hope you will make a resolution to support us on our journey. Together, we can help the young people of our communities see a future they can believe in.

As Always, Be Impactful.

— Armani McMillan, Executive Director

IMPACTdmv in Action

Following the IMPACT College Prep Workshop in May 2018, we invited workshop participants to apply to join our IMPACT Your Acceptance program. The multi-week no cost program delivers ongoing support to youth embarking upon the college application process. Over the course of 15 weeks, the IMPACT Team hosted in-person and virtual workshops that walked select seniors through various steps of applying to college. We explained how to complete the FAFSA and seek out scholarships, discussed how to request recommendation letters, and provided each participant with one-on-one writing support for essays and personal statements. We are excited to announce that the 15 students who completed the program have been accepted into over 95 schools and received over $563,500.00 in scholarships (so far). We would like to congratulate the 2018 IYA students on their success and thank their parents for believing in our vision and allowing us to be apart of their child's dynamic journey.
For the fourth year in a row, we hosted our Annual IMPACT Panel to connect high school seniors with current college students, recent graduates, and young professionals. This year, 20 panelists convened at Charles Herbert Flowers High School to share their academic, creative, and professional successes, challenges, and lessons learned with more than 300 seniors. Read more...
In November 2018, ECO-PGC hosted the 4th Annual Career Options Conference & Youth Career Expo. The two-part event invited teens and young adults (ages 16-24) to learn about alternative college and career paths in panel sessions about internship and apprenticeship programs, community colleges, entrepreneurship, financial well-being, and more. Our Executive Director, Armani McMillan, was a panelist in a session on building your brand via social media marketing. During the Youth Career Expo, IMPACTdmv offered free, on-site interview prep and resume review services to about 50 adolescents and young adults. IMPACTdmv thanks ECO-PGC for the opportunity!
