Sextuplets' parents say babies are healthy, breathing without ventilator at Brookwood Medical Center

HOMEWOOD, Alabama -- Heather and Mitchell Carroll, the parents of newborn sextuplets, spoke Tuesday with the media at Brookwood Medical Center in Homewood. Heather Carroll rolled into the press conference, still in a wheelchair

, five girls and one boy.

"It probably won't hit me until we leave here," Mitchell Carroll said.

have named their children in alphabetical order, following the order that they were born. They named their children after family members:

Abbie - 8:05 a.m.

Brooklyn - 8:06 a.m.

Chloe - 8:06 a.m.

David - 8:07 a.m.

Ellie - 8:07 a.m.

Faith - 8:08 a.m.

The babies' weights ranged from Faith's 1 lb. 10 oz., to Abbie's 2 lbs. 5 oz. They were all taken off of their ventilators within 12 hours of their births, said Dr. Vick DiCarlo, a neonatologist, at the press conference.

"We've got one or two that's a little rowdy," Heather Carroll said of her newborns.

The doctors on staff said that the babies are still being monitored and it is undetermined when they will be able to go home. The Carrolls have an older son, Grant, as well. He is a little under 2 years old.

Heather and Mitchell Carroll thanked the doctors and staff at Brookwood Medical Center for their care.
