CONNECTING MINDS, EXPLORE THE POSSIBILITIES Design derived from the word diseño which comes from the renaissance era that means drawing, which is a process to realize an idea. Meanwhile, ‘Budaya’ comes from the Sanskrit language buddhayah, which is the plural form of buddhi (mind). It’s interpreted as matters relating to human mind and reason.Another form of the word ‘budaya’ is culture which comes from English language or Latin language ‘cultura’ Based on the information above, it should be understood that designing means more than just designing, and architecture is more than a commodity, more than just a spectacle (what is seen / visualized). Design Culture is a realization of ideas related to ecosystems that shape and are shaped by human minds.

CONNECTING MINDS, EXPLORE THE POSSIBILITIES

Silver Lining

*Silver Lining: (Idiom) the positive aspects of a difficult situation.

This webinar series of Jayaboard Design Culture: Connecting Minds, Explore the Possibilities is an innovation that came from Jayaboard adaptation process to the ongoing pandemic situation in Indonesia. The theme Connecting Minds, Explore the Possibilities was formed to represent Jayaboard role as a solution provider to challenges or problems faced by the community. All possibilities to improve the quality of people’s lives are manifested in the product - system innovations and also optimum service that Jayaboard has brought to the community. Initially, the Jayaboard Design Culture will be held offline through one of the largest construction exhibitions in Indonesia, Indobuildtech EXPO 2020 on 29 Sept - 4 October 2020. All concepts and preparations that have been prepared to give the best experience for visitors were unfortunately canceled to support the government in carrying out the prevention program of COVID19 transmission which is also in line with Jayaboard’s view of prioritizing public health and safety. After the Large-Scale Social Restrictions program is run by the government, the community is required to limit their activities outside their home. In that situation Jayaboard adapts and

Page 8

completes the Jayaboard Design Culture concept which is then brought to the digital platform through the webinar series. It is hoped that with the webinar series Jayaboard can help and encourage people to remain productive and stay connected through inspiring content even though it is physically limited. This booklet will take readers on a journey through space and time with the presentation of content and the collaboration concept which should have been done. Let’s connect our minds and explore the possibilities.

MURAL

Ladies on Wall was founded in 2014 as a mural community forum for women who have a hobby or interest in graffiti. This community provides full support for everyone who is shy to show their drawing talent. Every year the number of members who come from various parts of Indonesia always increases. Gradually, the community that has entered the art industry since 2017 has received a lot of support from various organizations, from the Brisbane Street Art Festival by Microgalleries Hong Kong & the Australian Embassy and the Singapore Tourism Board. Murals are starting to become a growing trend in Indonesia. Bunga Fatia (Founder of Ladies on Wall) and Mellisa Jayatri (Architect & Mural Artist) are planned to show their mural work that is poured directly on Jayaboard plasterboard and make the mural gallery as one of the centers of

Page 12

attention in the Jayaboard booth. The two of them will also discuss mural trends and how it is developing in Indonesia through the Connecting Minds, Explore the Possibilities program as well as taking a role as panelists in the Jayaboard Mural Competition, which this year carries the theme City Scape.

JAYABOARD MURAL COMPETITION

Photography and architecture are two interconnected worlds. Architecture has an artistic element in the process of designing a building, where the concept of the building will produce its own aesthetic value in each component of the design. Similar to the world of photography, combining lighting techniques with a physical form has its own artistic value in capturing a moment. Jayaboard provides a platform through an inspirational community for people who love the world of architecture and photography in the Jayaboard Photography Competition, which this year carries the theme Reflection of The City.

ARCHITECT

In collaboration with Jayaboard, RAW Architecture presented several project mockups in the Jayaboard booth. In the RAW Architecture - Craftgram exhibition, the process within the design is linked to shaping a culture inside and outside the studio to form a better mind, and what ultimately the realization of a more optimal idea without fears. This exhibition is an introduction to understanding several manuscripts related to design culture in RAW Architecture such as: The Guild, Dancer House, Tectogram, Methodgram, and Craftgram. Due to limited space, matters related to a more detailed discussion can be found in the book.

The exhibition was divided into 3 parts. It was explained that in the first part, the design ecosystem in the RAW Architecture studio developed from simple things called S(w)ar(u)ang, namely independent spaces formed from a limitation due to the climate of practice in Jakarta - Indonesia. The exhibition was divided into 3 parts. It was explained that in the first part, the design ecosystem in the RAW Architecture studio developed from simple things called S(w)ar(u)ang, namely independent spaces formed from a limitation due to the climate of practice in Jakarta - Indonesia. S(w)ar(u)ang is an expression of “if I can’t experiment outside then the experiment is done in the studio”.

Page 17

ARCHITECT This can be seen from the formation of experiments in the studio garage and the formation of the Omah Library as a place to study together. This process is a stage that is still learn to practice, learn to express and learn to crawl. In the second half, RAW Architecture begins to conduct fearless S(w)ar(u)ang experiments in physically-built projects. This is done while maintaining the S(w) ar(u)ang experiment which in turn forms a tectogram, namely a tectonic treasury and Methodgram, a vocabulary of design methods. Tectogram and Methodgram are two tools for evaluating the optimization of the S(w) ar(u)ang experiments that are in the project. This is done with good project management, optimization of the budget plan, good delineation and the establishment of continuous design evaluations In the third part, the Tectogram and Methodgram evaluations provide a way to use these two things in a process of performance (the best way to do) an evaluation and interaction process to combine the three basic life of a maker, namely understand, act and draw into a more philosophical dimension of the existence of a culture that surrounds the RAW Architecture studio. Realrich Sjarief (Founder & Principal RAW Architecture) in addition to presenting some of his project mockups, also takes part as a jury for the Jayaboard Design Competition 2020 and curates the Jayaboard booth design and will present the seminar that discusses more deeply about architectural design trends that are developing in Indonesia.

The similarity characters of plasterboard and white paper sheets is the basic idea for Jayaboard installation at the Indobuildtech 2020 exhibition. Secarik Kertas is developed from the character of paper material that can be rolled, cut, written, torn and so on. The presence of paper in our lives is as close as the presence of Jayaboard plasterboard in our daily lives that are used on ceilings and light partitions to replace brick walls. Experiences are presented through the story of how Jayaboard has developed in Indonesia since 1994 through the elaboration of exhibition installations like white paper rolls that are ready to be written a new story. The shape transformation begins with a sheet of paper that is rolled up and then loosened like a flexible plasterboard. From this form transformation study, it is planned that visitors will get a variety of spatial experiences such as extrovert space which is intended to attract visitors to come enjoying the crowd and introverted space where visitors can focus on enjoying the exhibition content while remaining in the ambience of space using Jayaboard as the main material. Re-awakening human sensitivity to diverse space experiences is the hope of the Secarik Kertas installation design. Page 21
