Making Rigorous Science Writers

I need to attend a PD so that my students can have excellent opportunities to write in a structured way and incorporate rigorous writing into the Living Environment Curriculum at LaGuardia.

My Students

Every morning I am blessed to teach the students that I serve. They come from some most varied backgrounds: many are first-generation immigrants to the US, many are in difficult home situations, and all are extremely talented in the arts in some fashion or other. Thankfully, their hearts are always open for learning.

They are excited about learning, and especially when there's a project involved.

Whether it's a project on DNA, or a project on Diffusion through a membrane, or something more complex-like building a Rube Goldberg machine, the students show a zeal and vigor that insulates them from their surrounding reality. Their zeal gives me, and anyone else who sees them, a special kind of hope.

My Project

My students are hard working, dedicated science students and I want them to have the opportunity to experience more rigor and challenge. My hope is to incorporate the writing strategies to make the classroom more accessible to the LaGuardia student and in line with the mission of science to learn by doing (in this case writing).

My students will benefit in all subjects from the increase in rigor and structure in the Hochman method.

This method is revolutionizing how teachers structure writing. The method will improve writing skills, reading skills, and, ultimately, the ability of students to incorporate these skills across the curriculum.
