Parent Commitment
The sponsors for the QVMS Math Club love partnering with the math club families as students pursue their love of math!   We are committed to doing our very best to provide an equitable, effective environment where students can learn and have fun.  We work very hard to keep our club strong and successful, and in order to do that, we ask the following things from our parents:
1) Remember that math club is for fun!!  Although we take competition seriously, we never want it to cause undue stress to our students or have students attend club unless they are really interested.
Clear selection
2) Recognize that not all students are ready to be in our highest level math club groups and that a beginner student may glean little to nothing if he/she is placed in a club above his/her level (even if our amazing Mrs. Nal is the teacher!).  A Junior Varsity club may be the very best place for your child!
Clear selection
3)  Remember that email is our main communication tool so email addresses need to be entered accurately and updated when necessary in order to keep track of math club announcements and information.  If a parent discovers that he/she is not receiving emails, we ask that he/she verifies that emails are not being delivered to SPAM folders before contacting the math club sponsor.
Clear selection
 4) Recognize that the math club sponsors are full-time teachers with families and sponsoring math club is a massive job.  We ask for your patience with us specifically with communication throughout the year.  We also ask parents to watch the math club intro video and read the FAQ pages thoroughly to find answers to common questions before emailing the math club sponsor.  Link for video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xa9oCx0OFhw
Clear selection
5) Recognize and have patience for the fact that our math club teachers are almost all volunteers with full-time jobs outside of teaching our club groups and they must periodically cancel their groups.
Clear selection
6) Ensure that students are picked-up on time after club and understand that students who are picked up more than 15 minutes late for club will be asked to skip club the following week.
Clear selection
7) Realize if a student’s behavior in class is disruptive and the teacher has to spend valuable teaching time to ask him/her to either be quiet or get back on task, he/she will be in danger of being removed from the competition club *
8) Recognize that students are responsible for registering correctly and paying on time for competitions.  (Registration and payment are usually due the Monday before a competition.) If you miss the registration or payment deadline, and a late registration option is available, students must arrive during the early registration window or they will not be able to compete.

Student Commitment
The sponsors for the QVMS Math Club love partnering with the math club families as students pursue their love of math!   We are committed to doing our very best to provide an equitable, effective environment where students can learn and have fun.  We work very hard to keep our club strong and successful, and in order to do that, we ask the following things from our students:
1) If I am an engaged, active, respectful participant in class who follows all of my teacher’s directions and my teacher and the math club sponsors feel that I may benefit from a higher level club group, I may be given the op-portunity to move up. *
2) If my behavior in class is disruptive, and my teacher has to spend valuable teaching time to ask me to either be quiet or get back on task, I will be in danger of being removed from the competition club *
3) If I am found on my phone/sleeping or engaging in any other off-task behavior, I will be in danger of being removed from the competition club *
4) If my teacher notices that the material he/she is teaching is consistently too difficult for me, I understand that it may be in my best interest to move to a less difficult club group and agree to trust my teacher and the math club sponsor to act in my best interest. *
5) If I show up for club, but I have not informed my parents that/when I need to be picked up, thus, ending in my being picked up more than 15 minutes late, I will be asked to skip the following week of club. If this is a regular occurrence, further action will be taken *
6) I understand the expectations required of me for continued participation in the competition math club groups. I promise to do my very best and work hard to become a more proficient mathematician. [Initial] *
