Malaysia Is Worse Than Thailand In Reading, Maths And Science

Malaysia's disappointing results in the PISA 2012 survey came to us as a blow to our education system. Despite the push for a better education system, it turns out our students are declining in the area of reading, mathematics and science.

According To PISA 2012 Results, Malaysia Has Scored Below The Global Average When It Comes To Reading (398), Maths (421) And Science (420)

Malaysian students have scored below the global average under the Programme for International Student Assessment (Pisa) 2012.

According to the results released by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Malaysia scored 421 in Mathematics, 398 in Reading and 420 in Science respectively.

The results achieved in the latest survey showed Malaysia was below the global average score of 494 in Mathematics, 496 in Reading and 501 in Science.

Compared To The 2009 Results, Malaysia Has Improved In The Area Of Reading (414) And Maths (404), But Declined In Science (422)

Reading ability fell the most, plunging to an average of 398 in the 2012. Malaysian students in the previous edition had recorded a score of 414, while the current OECD average was 496.

Among 65 Countries, Malaysia Ranks In The Bottom Third, Coming In At 52

Based on the mean score for 2012, Malaysia is still placed in the bottom third, ranking 52 out of 65 countries, and 55 out of 74 countries in the 2009 survey.

Malaysia Came After Both Neighbours, Singapore And Indonesia. Shanghai, Singapore And Hong Kong Took The Top Spots.

Neighbours Singapore were placed second in the assessment, behind top-scorers from Shanghai in China. Thailand is two places above Malaysia while Indonesia was second from bottom.
