First things first, this location is not to be confused with Newcastle-Upon-Tyne or Newcastle itself. Newcastle-Under-Lyne is part of Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire in the West-midlands. It is 1 hour by train from Manchester Birmingham and Liverpool and around 90 mins from London and is worth considering if you are looking to attend either Newcastle-under-Lyme College or Keele University.
Things for students to do in Newcastle-under-Lyme
Just a stone throw away from student accommodation Newcastle-under-Lyme, is the bustling nightlife of Keele with a great variety of thriving bars, pubs and clubs with great transport services. If going out on the town isn’t really your thing then fear not for there is something in Newcastle-under-Lyme for everyone.
There are a number of Museums, Art Galleries and gardens to be enjoyed here if you fancy something a bit quieter and the great news for you guys is, most of them are free entry J One thing every student is sure to be glad to hear is also that there are over 100 restaurants in Newcastle-under-Lyme with flavours from all over the world as well as our good British pub grub.
University in Newcastle-under-Lyme
Newcastle-under-Lyme is home to the Newcastle-under-Lyme College which in 2010 unveiled its £60million campus, providing fantastic study and social facilities. But most of you looking into student accommodation Newcastle-under-Lyme are likely to be looking to study at Keele University.
Keele University (aka The University of Keele) has the largest main campus of all of the universities spanning across 620 acres (a football pitch is roughly 1.7 acres) and has the addition of a separate campus in Hartshill for its School of Medicine.
The university has 5 Halls of residence on campus but student led campaigns are now steering toward getting students to find accommodation off-campus, so they can experience the location they are living in to the full.
Something interesting to note about Keele Universities Halls of residence is that as though something from a Harry Potter film, the Barnes Halls have blocks from A-L & N-Z – there is no M block as it supposedly sank into the ground. And as if that wasn’t curios enough, the 7th floor of the Horwood building has walls doors and windows but no roof! A landing spot for quidich matches?
On the grand scale of things Keele is just a small area where the university Dwells and then anything just outside of it is Newcastle-under-Lyne so don’t be worried thinking that student accommodation Newcastle-under-Lyme will be really far away from the campus because it won’t.
