The Biologic Energy Time Clock

Bigstock_Day_Cycle_Eps_2414757
The energy patterns of Vata Pitta and Kapha are observed everywhere in Nature  We observe Kapha dogs, Vata hummingbirds, Pitta lions  These energy patterns are involved also in how we view time

Between 6am and 10am is a Kapha time  heavy, cold, slow/dull time; ? heavy breakfast

Between 10am and 2pm is a Pitta time hot,sharp/penetrating time; best for day's big meal

Between 2pm and 6pm is a Vata time     cold, light, mobile; good for activity

Between 6pm and 10pm is a Kapha time heavy,cold,slow/dull time; good for winding down

Between 10pm and 2am is a Pitta time  hot, sharp/penetrating time; body detox time

Between 2am and 6am is a Vata time  cold, light, mobile; emotional detox time

These vibrational frequencies  that are bolded are most prominent in Nature's physiology but we mirror them ourselves physiologically as well

Do you notice that you are hungry around noontime and late at night? Do you eat breakfast at times when you are really not hungry? Do you feel sharpest in the afternoon when working on projects?

A Day in the Life of the Energy Field

Bigstock_Day_Cycle_Eps_2414757A physician is obligated to consider more than a diseased organ, more even than the whole man – he must view the man in his world        Harvey Cushing, MD  1910

I've talked a lot about the value of a nutritional system but what does this mean, really?

Simply put, a system of nutrition must demonstrate our intimate relationship with Nature herself:

1 It should be based on the rhythms of Nature

2 It should be grounded on the intimacy that we share with the greater energy field(for example, Vata Pitta and Kapha and their physiological vibrational frequencies are expressions of the greater energy field)

3 By being entrenched in such a system, we automatically become healthy as a side effect

The current health system of thinking disengages us from Nature, intellectualizing our health by studying the molecular world And there's nothing wrong with studying the action of molecules but it creates for us tunnel vision and a biological model that limits us

Why should we insist that our nutritional system tangle us up with Nature? Because we are part of Nature Try to step out of Nature, right now

The energy patterns of Vata Pitta and Kapha are ubiquitous in Nature We observe Kapha dogs, Vata hummingbirds, Pitta lions These energy patterns are involved also in how we view time

Between 6am and 10am is a Kapha time  heavy, cold, slow/dull time; ? heavy breakfast

Between 10am and 2pm is a Pitta time hot,sharp/penetrating time; best for day's big meal

Starve a Cold, Feed a Fever

Bigstock_Sick_Woman_1307774

Having just completed a Kapha release, I can see how the adage that we have come to know is understood energetically

Kapha, the energy pattern of stabilty, when out of balance produces congestion This leads to productive cough, sinus congestion, runny nose, sneezing and at times fever as the energy pattern enters into the bloodstream Kapha imbalance longterm is also responsible for obesity, diabetes, and consequences of metabolic syndrome

Part of the Kapha imbalance is low or no appetite Since the rule of thumb is "Don't eat if you're not hungry", starve a cold makes perfect energetic sense And as the release completes the appetite reappears

What about fever? High fever is part of the Pitta imbalance Pitta the energy pattern of transformation when out of balance shows too much of the hot quality as we have discussed before Any -itis in the mindbody is a reflection of Pitta imbalance

But from even a matter science medical view, a fever is evidence for a hypermetabolic state In other words, burning calories

So it would make energetic scientific sense to feed the hypermetabolic state

Ah, the beauty of the energy science approach to help unravel these simple healing questions of life

Have you ever thought about whether you're hungry during a "cold" or congestion with a runny nose? Do you feel hungry during a time when you're running a fever? Do these experiences give you an idea of the healing knowledge that the mindbody possesses if we listen?

Nourishing Emotions With Food – Part I

  Bigstock_Scared_363150

He who is not everyday conquering some fear has not learned the secret of life.

                                                                              Ralph Waldo Emerson

In retrospect I think I have always been what I would now term a "celebratory eater" perhaps better known as a binge eater

You know, the week is finished and I've worked hard and it's now time to "party on down" The phrase "Go ahead, you deserve it" creates the visual of eat, drink, and be merry

But now as I've watched this process and understand the phrase "Eat to live not live to eat" I'm beginning to realize that my celebratory eating is actually another term for processing emotions with food

Somewhere in inner space unresolved conflicts and pent up emotions are in some way soothed by the taste whether it came in the form of wine, food, or both Am I hungry? Sure Do I need so much? No

But in extending this line of thought a bit, more uncomfortable social settings might allow for the same triggering for the need for food at times when we need to calm those screaming fears of survival Even though it seems totally irrational(whoever said the mind was rational especially with its fears) these fears bring us back to when we were confronted by a sabertooth cat on the savanna

Why is it that mixers have food around?

Although we all know this to be true, we talk very little about it because it's not chic to express our fears outwardly or even inwardly But in the end emotions are borne of our fears even love I'm not talking here about love on the cosmic level but at individual levels

The issue is this We will never "get real" with our fears unless we can acknowledge them Otherwise they own us and keep us captive

Soooooo……here are some tips for dealing with food and emotional eating

1 Always ask ourselves why we are eating especially when we are not hungry

2 Ask ourselves why we are overeating

3 Never expect an answer from the first two questions but wait and listen

4 Freely be willing to admit to yourself or to someone you're talking to that you're eating because you are scared(interesting ice breaker-turns cold into hot)

In other words these tips are to make us better witnesses to our own individual eating behavior patterns and not to be impatient in the process

Mindless Eating: Why We Eat More Than We Think by Wansink is a another source of information suggesting that witnessing or being mindful is an important step in emotional and addictive eating

Have you noticed patterns of eating that are emotionally driven?

10 Ways to Improve Agni

Fire OceanIn energy science work it's not just one thing that you do to bring about balance but a multiplicity of "things" And most of the time(80%) it's lifestyle behavior patterns not herbs and supplements that are the "things" that will make a difference This particularly plays out in digestive issues where attention to details pays big dividends

This approach to disease brings clarity both emotionally and mentally so that better decision making is done as you move along in the process So let's take a look at some important choices that the energy science recommends to improve digestion

10 Energy Science Remedies for Poor Digestion

1 Biggest meal of the day at noon The digestive system is most ready for the experience between 11a and 2p Conversely at the same time at night between 11p and 2a one should be in bed or there is a great chance that you'll be "raiding the fridge" particularly if Pitta is high and the digestion is too hot

2 No snacking Snacking confuses the GI tract So eating the main meals at predetermined times every 4 hours is very important If you snack you will never know true hunger Due to its simple sugars that can be digested quickly fruit makes a perfect snack food

3 Only eat if real hunger exists The way to tell if there is true hunger is to drink some water and see if you're still hungry If your hunger goes away then it's false hunger However the best way to lock into true hunger is to eat at specific times of the day, eat the biggest meal of the day at noon, and don't snack

4 Ice is not nice Ice cools the GI tract down and agni The enzyme systems work best at 98.6F and so when ice is used during meals it affects your digestion and creates ama which is undigested, unprocessed food Ama is root of all disease so you can see that simply avoiding is a major step to improving your digestion

5 Pay attention to what you're doing and chew food thoroughly There is good experimental evidence to show that when you pay attention to the eating process you digest better There are estimates as to how many "chews" should be used for each mouthful of food and I think that a reasonable number is 20 This guideline is also useful for food prepartation paying attention to the food being prepared

6 Take your time eating Setting down your fork and chewing food, appreciating the taste, textures, and the completeness of chewing the food

7 Make a deal to sit while eating Sitting in your car while driving doesn't count here! Even if it's a grape make a deal with yourself that you'll sit down to eat the grape to create a habit

8 Don't eat when emotional upset Having mental and emotional turbulence prevents you from being able to focus on the process of eating at hand

9 Moderate exercise Make a point to do some form of exercise every day This improves agni and supports quality digestion and prevents ama formation The use of pranayama and in particular kapalabhati(KB) is an excellent way to improve agni and get exercise It may not seem like much but doing 5 minutes of KB is like running a half a mile

10 Use churans with meals At foodsheal.com under nutritional tools there is a listing of churans which are collections of spices that can be used during cooking or sprinkling on food before eating In the energy science each meal should have all 6 tastes Churans can be instrumental in providing these tastes in order to help improve digestion
