Timeshifted viewing 15% by 2015

July 7, 2011

By Chris Forrester

DVRs have entered the mainstream and their increasing presence in the home means that by 2015 Screen Digest expects 17 per cent of US viewing and more than 14 per cent of UK viewing will be non-linear, either from DVRs or on-demand non-linear ‘transmissions’.

However, the report also cites some caveats: For example, in Germany, Spain and Italy, there is a slower shift to these new technologies, and this means that more than 90 per cent of all viewing will stay loyal to conventional broadcast schedules. Indeed in Italy and Spain, the shift to DVR-based viewing will be less than 6 per cent.
