TWO Stirling organisations have been named among Scotland’s safest, healthiest employers.

Baker Street Nursery and Landmarc Support Services each picked up a Bronze Healthy Working Lives Award in recognition of their efforts to promote healthier lifestyles and improve workplace safety at a ceremony in the Carnegie Conference Centre in Dunfermline.

The Healthy Working Lives Awards, administered by the Scottish Centre for Healthy Working Lives, encourage employers to promote a healthier workforce and cover a wide range of topics including health promotion, occupational health and safety, employability, mental health and well-being, community involvement, and health and the environment.

The Baker Street Nursery picked up its award for efforts to improve awareness of health issues among its 22 members of staff. Skin cancer awareness was a particular focus, with a range of Cancer Research materials made available and free suntan lotion sachets provided by NHS Forth Valley.

The nursery’s employees were also encouraged to consider healthier eating and take part in a “two-litre challenge” to maintain optimum levels of everyday water consumption.

Lorraine Thomson at Baker Street Nursery, said: “We’re delighted to have picked up this award. It’s a testament to the commitment of all our staff, who have really taken the Healthy Working Lives objectives to heart and have made a big effort to work together to achieve the award.”

Landmarc Support Services, which provides facilities management for the Ministry of Defence, received a bronze award for a series of initiatives aimed at improving physical and mental health for the 20 employees based at its Scottish HQ on Meadowforth Road. These initiatives included team training events such as a trip to the Go Ape! site in Queen Elizabeth Forest Park.
