Birmingham City Council agrees to delay 2010 budget for four more weeks

The Birmingham City Council voted minutes ago to delay the city's 2010 operating budget for four more weeks. Six of seven council members present for the vote supported the delay.

Mayor Larry Langford and the council are divided over the budget, now in its fourth proposed form, because of conflicting projections for anticipated revenues. The 2010 budget year began July 1, but the city continues to operate under the 2009 budget.
