I bought a used Mytough 4G on eBay (had to switch from a VZW Droid 2 to a T-Mobile Mytouch). It came in the other day and got it on T-Mobile and everything works NICE...... until yesterday.
The power button was making the phone go into lock/unlock mode when not in use and it would put also bring up the "restart and shutdown" menu (like when you long press the power button). I wiggled the button and tried to see if it was broken or just dirty contacts. I took it down to a repair store in Austin and he ended up cleaning the connections. He said they were pretty corroded. The button worked fine and I sat there in the store for about 10 mins trying to get the problem to replicate. After nothing going wrong, I figured the problem was solved and went home.
24 hours later my G/F was messing with it (hers comes in tomorrow, another eBay item) and it started acting up again. It's not as bad, but it's still doing it. I did the same thing as yesterday to make sure the button wasn't sticking or anything. I went ahead and called up T-Mobile and got insurance on it. The guy told me I was covered from that moment on. My plan is to call them tomorrow morning and report the problem to get the new one on its way.
My problem is this:
- I need to revert the ROM back to stock. Since I wasn't the one that changed it, I don't have the factory ROM. I don't want them to charge me for a new phone because "I" changed the operating system. If I can't switch it back to stock, I am thinking about running it over with my dually so they would never know. I need to find out what to do before I call them in the morning.
My alternative question is:
- Can you do the insurance trade at a T-Mobile store?
- Will they give me crap for insuring a "second hand" phone?
- What happens if the replacement breaks or has a malfunction?
- What is the "deductible" amount? All I can find is that smartphones can cost up to $130 to replace for a claim.
Sorry about the long post, but I wanted to be as accurate as possible.
Thank you for your help and time!
