I bought a used Mytough 4G on eBay (had to switch from a VZW Droid 2 to a T-Mobile Mytouch). It came in the other day and got it on T-Mobile and everything works NICE...... until yesterday.

The power button was making the phone go into lock/unlock mode when not in use and it would put also bring up the "restart and shutdown" menu (like when you long press the power button). I wiggled the button and tried to see if it was broken or just dirty contacts. I took it down to a repair store in Austin and he ended up cleaning the connections. He said they were pretty corroded. The button worked fine and I sat there in the store for about 10 mins trying to get the problem to replicate. After nothing going wrong, I figured the problem was solved and went home.

24 hours later my G/F was messing with it (hers comes in tomorrow, another eBay item) and it started acting up again. It's not as bad, but it's still doing it. I did the same thing as yesterday to make sure the button wasn't sticking or anything. I went ahead and called up T-Mobile and got insurance on it. The guy told me I was covered from that moment on. My plan is to call them tomorrow morning and report the problem to get the new one on its way.

My problem is this:

- I need to revert the ROM back to stock. Since I wasn't the one that changed it, I don't have the factory ROM. I don't want them to charge me for a new phone because "I" changed the operating system. If I can't switch it back to stock, I am thinking about running it over with my dually so they would never know. I need to find out what to do before I call them in the morning.

My alternative question is:

- Can you do the insurance trade at a T-Mobile store?

- Will they give me crap for insuring a "second hand" phone?

- What happens if the replacement breaks or has a malfunction?

- What is the "deductible" amount? All I can find is that smartphones can cost up to $130 to replace for a claim.

Sorry about the long post, but I wanted to be as accurate as possible.

Thank you for your help and time!

If you need the OE ROM, google search for the PD15IMG.zip. Leave zipped, check the MD5SUM and flash via hBoot.

Thank you! My replacement is on the way. I like the Iced Glacier ROM and want to put it on the new one once it comes in. Do you know a place that lists a good step by step? I looked at the one on here and there are a couple of steps that seem a little lacking.

There are two methods that you can use to truly root your phone. One is called the root.sh method, and the other is the ./gfree method.

BEFORE you decide to go full blown you might want to check your eMMC serial number and verify which one you have. Read though this thread [Post your eMMC serial - xda-developers ] to see why. It's becoming clear that there are two different chip manufacturers, one is a problematic and one is less problematic.

After you do that either one will work to your liking. The more user friendly version is the root.sh variant

1a ) download and install VISIONary.apk. Download from here
-Looks like you've done that since you have come this far.

1b) when you run VISIONary make sure both set system to R/W and Run Visionary.sh are both checked.

2) Download the script to the root of your SDcard
This is the file

3) Extract the folder from the .zip and store the folder with it's contents onto the root of the SDcard.

4) Download Terminal emulator from the market
-Link to the market for this app.

5) open the Terminal Emulator and type

Code:
$ su
#

The Dollar Sign " $ " should change to a pound sign " # ". If the Super user program ask for your permission, you'll want to grant it. You're screen should look like the box just above this line.

6 ) Change the directory to the root folder

Code:
# cd /sdcard/root

7) run the script
Code:
# sh root.sh

make sure you do not get any errors.

If you havent you can reboot into hBoot and look for s-off.

i personally used this method to root my phone before i left the t-mobile store when i bought the phone.

I CANNOT AND WILL NOT BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE IF YOU MESS UP YOUR PHONE. ROOTING ONES PHONE IS SERIOUS BUSINESS AND SHOULDN'T BE TAKEN LIGHTLY. IF YOU SHOULD BLAME ME I WILL LAUGH AND POINT..
