Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On Sunday 29th of July, I'll be taking to the start line of the Prudential Ride London. A 100 mile / 160Km 'Sportive' ride through London and Surrey. Although charity riders like myself are doing this for great causes, this is an event that tends to get a little competitive and so not only will I be looking to simply complete the 100 miles...but I'll be trying to go as fast as my legs will allow for that distance too!
100 miles is a lot by any standard. With this distance likely to see me in the saddle for no less than 6 hours, I fully expect to have a sore bottom, as well as concrete legs by the time I'm finished.
It will all be worth it though as I am riding in aid of Roy Castle's Lung Cancer Foundation.
Lung Cancer can affect anyone. Like any cancer, it doesn't discriminate with non-smokers susceptible to this horrible disease. Unlike other cancers, however, Lung Cancer receives some of the lowest levels of funding, despite being the UK's BIGGEST CANCER KILLER.
Around 35,000 people here in the UK die from this disease every year and over 40,000 people are diagnosed with this terrible disease.
The BBC recently covered this funding imbalance which addresses some of the misconceptions about lung cancer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9azWP1Vy-r0
If you could take a few moments to donate, it would be massively appreciated and I would be very grateful.
Over the next few months, I'll be peddling away to be fit enough to be sure I finish this ride. I want to do everyone that sponsors me and all those working hard at the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation proud.
