The Centers for Disease Control estimate that there are approximately 12 million people who have the early stages of COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) but have not yet been diagnosed. The Right2Breathe Project provides FREE simple spirometry tests to people at risk for COPD so that they can begin a pathway to diagnosis and an opportunity to slow or stop the progression of this progressive, irreversible disease.
For many people who live with lung diseases, mobility and travel to patient support groups is nearly impossible. Pulmonary Chat, a free online patient support group provides an opportunity for patients to connect with other patients while also learning about how to manage their conditions from world class guest speakers. Through the BlueJeans video meeting platform, Right2Breathe brings in some of the best Pulmonologists, General Practice physicians, Respiratory Therapists, Certified Dietician Nutritionists, Functional Movement specialists, and many other speakers to provide education and then answer patient questions. Donations to this program help bring in speakers and provide funding to expand the reach of the group. Pulmonary Chat began in August of 2019, but expanded significantly once Covid made “in person” gatherings for people with lung disease dangerous. Sign up on the Right2Breathe Eventbrite page, through the Right2Breathe Facebook page, or find more information on the Right2Breathe website.
Living with Asthma, COPD, Pulmonary Hypertension, or Pulmonary Fibrosis can be extremely challenging. Patients deal with multiple medication types and delivery devices, environmental triggers, treatment disparities, mobility challenges, and the psychological effects of living with chronic illness. The current reality in healthcare is that patients do not have enough time with their doctors. Breathe Easy 411 will be a resource where patients can speak with a Registered Respiratory Therapist to answer questions and learn strategies for living their best life.
While the use of tobacco among adults and teens has decreased, Nicotine addiction is still increasing due to use of E-cigarettes (a.k.a. vaping). Vaping has increased 78% among high school students from 2017 to 2018. This campaign dispels the myth that vaping is "safe" and provides resources and information so kids can discover their passions, manage stress, and achieve their goals in life.
