RSVP for Public Comment on 9.15 and/or 9.16
The Board of Supervisors are in their final budget discussions for this year, so please join us for public comments during this crucial time, in advance of the finalization of the SF city budget on 9/22. We’ll send you a playbook with call-in details, a script, and more.
This is our chance to:
1) make it clear that they should reject the new contract with the racist Police Officer Association (POA)
2) demand the Board of Supervisors propose an amendment to the budget to fire officers this year in order to give MORE money to the Black community, not to cops
Tuesday, 9/15, meeting begins 2PM (anticipated public comment 5 PM?): Put pressure on the Supervisors during the final stages of their budget process, and as San Franciscans, make it clear that you demand they REJECT the racist POA’s new contract proposal and that you demand defunding of the SFPD and Sheriffs in this year’s budget! Without defunding the SFPD and Sheriffs, what vital service will the money be taken from to fund the $22M Police Officers Association contract?
The meeting begins at 2pm, but we anticipate comment will be closer to 5pm or later.
What’s wrong with the POA’s renegotiated contract?
- The POA still gets all their raises AND two additional 3% raises in 21/22 and 22/23. The only thing they conceded is that they have to wait 6 months to get their first raises at which point THEY’LL STILL GET BACK PAY TO THE ORIGINAL RAISE DATE.
- Locks in all (lack of) accountability and transparency measures until June 2023
- Moves their contract to 2023, during an election year so they can use it as leverage!
Wednesday, 9/16: We must demand that the Police Commission make all negotiations with the Police Officers Association (POA) open to the public. As it stands, they’re poised to go into a closed session for contract negotiations with the racist POA. If the Commissioners are planning to rubber stamp the POA’s contract, they should have to do it out in the open where the people can hold them accountable
.
The meeting begins at 5:30pm, but we anticipate comment will be closer to 6:30pm or later.
The last time y’all turned out for public comment, we kept it going for over 11 hours. Let’s do that again! This is the week to speak out and hold our electeds accountable.
