Description
ELIE Circle, LLC. is hosting a pilot program Monday-Thursday June 24-August 1, 2019 9a-2:30p focused on exposing 6 teens to social work careers.  Teens (ages 14-21) will spend the summer learning the basics/fundamentals of social work and trauma-informed care through speakers, shadowing experiences, experiential learning, and a culminating project to showcase their learning.  Experiential Learning topics include leading support and educational groups, facilitating active listening sessions, community organizing, researching, and managing mock cases.

ELIE Circle, LLC. is a training and consulting business to equip individuals with a trauma-informed approach to address trauma.  It was founded by Debralyn Woodberry-Shaw, a University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work grad and a licensed social worker.

This pilot program is a partnership between ELIE Circle, LLC., the Homewood Children’s Village (an organization working to improve the lives of Homewood children through service and research - www.hcvpgh.org), and Partner4Work: Learn and Earn (a program providing job opportunities to teens - www.partner4work.org/learnandearn).  All teens will come from the Homewood Children’s Village Learn and Earn provider site.

Request - Speakers and Shadowing Experiences
DEADLINE: JUNE 7TH

Speakers
You have a maximum of 90 minutes, this includes time for a debrief, and minimum of 30 minutes.  We are asking for an interactive activity related to your field or an engaging conversation - anything that requires their active participation (Debralyn will provide support if needed).  Please limit lecturing (i.e., talking at teens without their participation) to no more than 30 minutes.  Points to Consider Covering: introducing yourself, why you chose to be a social worker, what led you to the social work field, and what domain(s) of social work do you currently work in.

Shadowing Experiences
You have a maximum of 90 minutes, this includes time for a debrief, and minimum of 1 hour.  We need to be able to get to the site by city bus from Homewood.  You can take as much or as little of that time as you want.  During the shadowing experience, we are asking for teens to be able to see your space and what you do in action.  If possible, they will spend time observing you work.

For the debrief - teens will have specific questions they will answer to assist them with their final project.  You can facilitate the debrief as a part of your time, if not it will happen after.
