Very cool Solo! It had an almost Egyptian vibe to it! Sounded very exotic. I liked your open string licks as well and how they contrasted with the closed scales. Also I really dug the dynamics. How you would play briskly and then slow down a bit and get more melodic. It really shows a lot of skill and hard work in your playing. Also, you took it in an almost Minor Direction despite the fact that the backing is Major and you still made it work! Super congrats. You have gotten good really quick. BTW, NICE IBBY!

In Short, you just..

LEVELED UP!

This is seriously tasty riffage here. The Les Paul sounds great with the track. You use an enormous variety of techniques on this and all of them work within the backing. I'm kinda shocked you improved this entire thing as it's a LONG solo and I would usually think folks would write bits first but the fact that you just "wung it" get's you more points to honest. Listen to Fzalfas solo and you can see how vastly different two folks can interpret the same exact backing. Your vibrato here is subtle and well controlled, also your transitions in and out of licks, it's just smooth as glass. Great take!

In other words you just ..

LEVELED UP!!

Top Freaking Notch!! I loved all of it. You switched keys when the backing changed and I don't know if you were even aware that you did it. Your instincts are really getting good. I didn't mention the key change just to see what folks did with the interpretation. Impressive. Have you noticed that you are looking at the fretboard less and less? You used to look at it the entire time. Now you just glance now and then. That's how well you know the scales and runs so super congrats there.

Also, let me congratulate you on your combination of techniques! Alt Picking, Legato, Bends, Open String licks, chordal licks, etc. This really shows how far you have come. I hope you are keeping this in a public playlist on youtube!!!!

In other words, you just...

LEVELED UP!!! AND you were the first one in water to give it a go!!! Respect.

I can't thank you enough for letting me use this killer track for our Shred Challenge. It's just perfect. I honestly think you should make it in to a STUDENT COLLAB project! If you end up liking any of the bits folks play, you can always add them to final mix if you like wink.gif Killer track and keep em coming! I'm really looking forward to hearing your solo take!!

Very cool solo! It actually reminds me a lot of my own! We must take our inspiration from some of the same sources smile.gif You make great use of the extended blues scale and don't miss a beat as you traverse strings and connect shapes up and down the neck. Also I dig your note choice per usual and your tone is quite good. What are you using on your tone here? It's short and sweet and right to the point. You are starting to do a great job of employing bits from Bootcamp in to your solo work which is always a good thing IMHO smile.gif Your picking has become much more aggressive which is also always a good thing IMHO smile.gif

Furthermore, you are playing with confidence. It comes through! I can remember when you were a bit tentative when soloing, and now I can see that's gone and been replaced by a certain swagger in your play that only serves to make it work better, especially in a track like this where you have to have some mojo in your playing to sound mean enough to play along with the backing. It's great to see how far you've come so quickly, look back at your first few submissions if you haven't already. You are making great progress. keep it up!!

In short you just ....

LEVELED UP!!!!

I dig the melodic nature of your take quite a bit. I can see that you are setting up melody through lines which serve as touch stones to come back to, almost like creating chorus like bits. Then you bust in to the pinch harmonics and finger flying and vibrato. Your use of vibrato is very cool as it's pronounced. You can't miss it. You are combining a lot of techniques here and it's impressive. This is a great entry for your first Challenge!!!

I like the way you use dynamics as well. You stop playing. You give it breaks. Then you come back in. The notes we don't play are often as important as the ones we do play. Good use of palm muting and multi picking as well. Wads of variety in this one. Super congrats on a cool solo and welcome to the SHRED FEST!!!! Also, thanks for letting us use this killer track!!!

In short you just...

LEVELED UP!!!!

Thanks Todd! After watching myself I do notice how this solo is mostly running those pattern shapes up&down in different positions. A bit boring maybe, but it's definitely the building blocks I've been working on. The tone is my usual one, a JCM800 with tubescreamer, I think it may sound a bit different here because of the guitar choice. I used my Schecter and it's 24.75 scale. It has a nice thick sound to it.

I didn't think it was boring at all. I liked what you were doing. I did much the same thing myself wink.gif The backing seems to almost ask for it. I thought it worked quite well and the tone choice too! We have a new one coming later tonight I hope you give it a go!
