This book, the sequel to Glass Half Full: Our Australian Adventure, follows our French exploits as we endeavour to rebuild our lives in another new country, after spending four and half years in Australia. Our goal, or hope for the immediate future, is to focus positively on the present, so that we can start a new, optimistic future back in Europe. Our main aim is to be nearer to the children, leaving the dark clouds of the challenges we faced in Australia as a distant memory. Journey with us as we arrive in rural South West France; enjoy my reflections, thoughts, and observations about my family, our new surroundings, and our lifestyle. Follow the journey of my writing career and how we start our renovation project while managing our convoluted family life. Two Dogs and A Suitcase
This memoir starts out as a move from Australia after losing their belongings from a devasting flood to the countryside in France. It details interesting and challenging situations from finding the delapitated home to restore to living with no jobs. How they managed to do this takes much patience, strong will, and belief and love for each other and for their dream to make this work. If I learned anything from this, it is that if someone wants something bad enough, Faith in God and in yourself it can be possible. It won't be without huge challenges but it can be attainable if you want it badly enough.
A winner
I found this an incredibly interesting book. The author is an amazing woman whose attitude is inspirational. She's accomplished more in her life than most people could in two lives if they had a second one on earth. As a person of faith myself I'm buoyed by her story. I too struggle with a rare and very painful medical issue, and keeping a positive mindset is essential to getting through the day. I was quite interested in the details of France as I'm unable to travel but always wanted to. I felt like I could see some of the country from here. My only complaint is please, oh please, watch the use of commas throughout your writing. There are way too much of them and they break the flow badly in spots. There are some missing words here and there but the idea isn't lost, so that's not too much of a problem. Excellent story and I'll be a fan for a long time!
Very hard to follow
This could have been a very good book had it been better edited. The chronology was not sequential and the character development was bizarre. Characters were discussed several chapters before they were introduced. It was almost as if the chapters had been randomly placed in the book.
