Material Advantage - Mentor Application
Thank you for your interest in being a mentor for the UNT Material Advantage Mentorship Program. We hope to bring our members a fun and productive experience through this initiative. You are now a step closer to developing leadership skills, earning volunteer hours, and making a real difference.

This application is to ensure applicants are coupled with like-minded members and understands the responsibilities and requirements of this leadership role. A submitted application required to be considered for a mentor position.

As leaders, our team expects you to lead by example. The goal is to develop important leadership skills, build long-lasting connections, and provide guidance to your mentee. Most importantly, don't forget to have fun!

4 points and appropriate volunteer hours will be rewarded per semester for being a mentor with us. Read and check the boxes below to acknowledge the requirements and responsibilities of being a mentor.

A mentor should have the following characteristics:

•  Have strong communication skills
•  Be able to facilitate and direct a group of students (from 1-3 mentees)
•  Be self-motivating and punctual
•  Be able to lead by example and have the upmost integrity
Responsibilities of a mentor are as follows:

•  Schedule frequent meetings or stay in touch with my mentees (line of communication may be of your choice; Zoom meetings, GroupMe, Telegram, etc.)

•  Stay up to date with opportunities that are beneficial for mentees

•  Advise and assist mentees for the Fall 2020 semester (you are NOT expected to tutor your mentees with coursework)

•  Support your mentee(s) with your insight and share your experiences with mentee(s)

•  Guide and connect mentees to available resources from the UNT College of Engineering and the Department of Materials Science and Engineering.
Requirements to be a mentor with UNT Material Advantage:

•  Be at least a junior (this classification is based on course-wise, not hour wise)

•  Have been a student at University of North Texas for at least 1 semester

•  Be able to commit to at least 2 hours a month to engage with mentee(s)

•  Can attend all of UNT MA's general meetings bi weekly on Wednesdays from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm (there are exceptions to this requirement if you have class or work as long as you keep up with our organization; please explain below if you'd like to apply but unable to attend our meetings)

•  Can/will attend at least one event host by UNT MA for the semester where I'm a mentor (the event can be of your choice; the event cannot be a general meeting)

•  Commit to 1 virtual meeting per month with the UNT MA officers to provide updates (will be based on everyone's availability)
