Vidi Aldiano fills leisure time with pictures

When he is not on stage, pop singer Vidi Aldiano is out there doing what he loves most - taking pictures with his camera.

When I have a day off, I like to wake up late to make up for lost sleep. Sometimes I get up at 2 in the afternoon. It depends on what time I go to bed because sometimes I get home at dawn. For me, days off are really precious.

If I have spare time, I usually hang out with friends and look for objects for our photography sessions. We frequently go to the massive Bumi Serpong Damai (BSD) housing complex in south Tangerang to shoot greenery, or head out to Jakarta's old city to take photos of old buildings from the colonial era.

I have been taking photos since high school. At that time, this was the coolest thing to do outside school. When I go out on photo hunting missions, I get so engrossed what I'm doing that I lose track of time, and I often keep taking photos until I am satisfied with the result.

One of my most memorable photography experiences was just after I graduated from high school . a while ago. It began on a Saturday night. I slept over at a friend's house. There were boys and girls, so the boys were sleeping in one house, and the girls spent the night in the house next door. It was fun.

In the morning, we had breakfast together. Then we went around the Menteng neighborhood in Central Jakarta to find interesting objects. We also went to Jl. Sudirman, because it was a Car-Free Day. We took a stroll along the main thoroughfare snapping people riding bikes or doing whatever they were doing.

Another pastime I like to do with friends is eating out. I like culinary adventures. We like to try out new restaurants. It doesn't have to be an up-scale place, and sometimes we eat out at roadside stalls. I like all kinds of food, nothing specific.

It is been difficult for me lately to do photography because of my busy schedule. I still don't know when I can get time off. The last time I had time off I went to Hong Kong for five days with family. These are basically the days I spend with my family and friends.
