Wallowa School District and the City of Wallowa were recently awarded Safe Routes to School Planning Assistance from the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT). Through this program, we are working to create a Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Plan that identifies street improvements near Wallowa Elementary and Wallowa High School to support students and families in walking, biking, and rolling to school safely. Planners from Alta Planning + Design, an active transportation consulting firm, are guiding the planning process.
We need your help to make the Wallowa SRTS Plan a success! You are invited to attend a walk audit with school staff and planners from the consultant team to observe student arrival or dismissal and document the walking and biking conditions around the school area. During the event, we hope to hear more about your experiences traveling to school and your ideas for reducing barriers and improving safety conditions for students walking and rolling.
Please use this form to RSVP. The walk audit will begin at 7 am and end at 8:30 am. The group will be capped at 12 participants to align with state COVID-19 protocols.
Date: Thursday, June 3rd (6/3/21)
Address: 315 E 1st St, Wallowa, OR 97885 (meet at the flag pole)
