Back in 2009, Dr Duncan Lascelles received the WSAVA Hill’s Pet Mobility Award at our Congress in Sao Paolo, Brazil. It is being presented to him here by Dr Dan Aja, then Director US Professional and Veterinary Affairs for Hill’s Pet Nutrition.  Today, Duncan is Chair of our Global Pain Council.

WSAVA AWWC Runs Shelter Medicine Workshop at the International Companion Animal Coalition (ICAM) Conference  
From 18-21 October, ICAM teamed up with the Kenyan Veterinary Association for its third global conference on humane dog population management in Mombasa.  During the conference, WSAVA Animal Wellness and Welfare Committee members Drs Natasha Lee and Katherine Polak delivered a workshop on Shelter Medicine to around 30 participants, mainly veterinary practitioners.

Leading the way on One Health
WSAVA Treasurer and Emeritus Professor Michael Day attended the 4th Eastern European Regional Veterinary Congress (EERVC) in Thessaloniki, Greece from 3-5 October.  The congress was attended by over 1,300 delegates from 47 countries.  A successful One Health stream was held during the scientific programme and Professor Day , a founder member of the EERVC board, spoke briefly about the work of the WSAVA One Health Committee. 
 
The 5th EERVC Congress will be held in Ljubljana, Slovenia, from May 7th to 9th, 2020.
Spreading the word on veterinary wellness
On September 24, Dr Nienke Endenburg, Co-Chair of our Professional Wellness Committee, spoke at the Mind Matters Conference organized by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in Westminster, London.  She discussed the findings of our recent survey into veterinary wellness globally and the work of our Professional Wellness Group.
New Program launched by WSAVA Educational Partner ACTAsia
On September 26, WSAVA CEO Arpita Bhose attended the launch of iCARE, a new branch of ACTAsia’s Caring for Life Education for children (CFL) program, at the Osler-McGovern Centre, University of Oxford, UK.  The program, based on UNESCO’s Four Pillars of Education, promotes compassion and kindness in Asian societies and helps children to develop emotional intelligence.
