Join us on Saturday, May 11, 2024 in at the Marriott Anchorage Downtown by volunteering at our annual Wine Women & Shoes fundraising event in support of Best Beginnings!

About Best Beginnings:

We are on a mission to ensure that every child in Alaska begins school ready to succeed. To do this, we provide educational opportunities for parents to be their child's first and most important teacher from birth, and resources for early education professionals to use to help children learn and grow. As champions for early literacy, we've published regionally and culturally relevant books such as our award-wining Seasons of Alaska board book series, and helped provide free books each month in the mail to over 13,000 children in 129 Alaska communities through Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.

How would you like to share your time as a volunteer? *

PRE-EVENT: Help set-up for event (10 AM - 2 PM). Duties will include setting out auction lots, decor items, filling swag bags, etc.

EVENT: Registration desk (4:30 - 7 PM). Help greet and check in guests, pass out programs, and answer questions.

EVENT: Coat check (5 - 9:30 PM)

EVENT: Help guests check out (7 - 9:30 PM). Will include moving auction items to check out table, handing out items at the end of the night, helping guests carry items out if needed.

EVENT: Sell raffle tickets (5 - 8 PM)

EVENT: Auction spotters (6:30 PM - 8:30 PM)

EVENT: Shoe judge host (5:30 PM - 8 PM)

POST EVENT: Help close down and pack everything up (9 - 10:30 PM)

FASHION SHOW: Model (must be available day of 2 PM to 9 PM and pre-event for fitting)

Become a Shoe Guy!

Shoe Guys help raise critical funds for children's literacy programs in Anchorage by volunteering in support of our signature event, Wine Women & Shoes.

SHOE GUY VOLUNTEER DESCRIPTION:

Day of Event - May 11, 2024 5 PM - 10 PM: Remind guests that 20% of the evening's sales goes back to Best Beginnings and encourage guests to “shop for the cause”
Represent the vendor/winery/brewery/area/job to which they are assigned: i.e. carry shoes or jewelry on a tray and promote sales, sell raffle tickets, promote silent and live auction lots
Encourage guests to sample wines and culinary bites from various tasting stations
Make the attendees feel special by complimenting their shoes
Invite your friends and community notables to join you as a Shoe Guy
Other duties as assigned
Pre-Event: raise a minimum of $200 in donations in support of Best Beginnings, and invite your friends to attend.

Raise a minimum of $200 in donations for Best Beginnings. Already raised yours? Have fun competing against other shoe Guys for the title of the "King of Sole". The Shoe Guy who raises the most by 2:00 p.m. on May 11, 2024, will be recognized on stage at the event and awarded the title. Last year's Shoe Guys raised over $10K!
Join us at our official Shoe Guy Kick Off Party in late April to meet your fellow volunteers, enjoy some brews, and delicious appetizers.
