Sacramento County is named after the Sacramento River. The word Sacramento signifies “Sacrament” or “Lord’s Supper.” Sacramento County is home to California's oldest incorporated city, which bears the same name. The Pony Express, which stretched from CA to Missouri, originated in Sacramento County in 1860. The Crocker Art Museum, established in the family mansion in 1885, is the oldest public art museum west of the Mississippi.
