The first in the 6-part Gone series by Michael Grant

NO MAJOR SPOILERS

The book I am reviewing is called Gone; by Michael Grant. There are 6 books in the series, the first one being Gone. My goal is to get people to try these books without giving too much away.

The premise of the book is that some event (explained in the last book) causes all of the adults to dissipate, the only people left are younger than 15. Another central part of the setting is that there is a dome that traps the kids inside (much like the one in the hunger games or under the dome).

One of the main reasons I enjoyed this series is the numerous characters, there is one main character, but he only occupies a third of the narration (they are written in 3rd person limited). Another plus is that the characters come from diverse religions that are mostly treated with respect.

These books are very engrossing (read the first one in less than 24 hours, and it was 500+ pages) and has a powerful plot line. But are graphic and has disturbing elements in them. read if you are over 13, but wait till you are 15 to read the last 3 books.

The series is, in this order: Gone, Hunger, Lies, Plague, Fear, and Light. Content includes some language, high levels of often bloody violence, some underage sex in later books, torture, underage drinking, some cannibalism, racism and the like, and terrible living conditions. Very worthwhile read.
