Getting about at Conferences
|
|
|
Touching Base's reputation for providing informative and stimulating presentations has led us to be invited to two new conferences.
Co-hosts Alzheimer’s Australia Vic and COTA Victoria have invited Touching Base to speak at their upcoming "Let’s Talk About Sex" Conference. Our President Saul Isbister will represent Touching Base on the opening panel session on Tuesday, 8 September 2015 between 9.40 and 10.30am. Saul's keynote presentation is on later the same day from 4.30 to 5.00pm at the Pullman on the Park, Melbourne.
The inaugural Let’s Talk About Sex Conference aims to challenge many of the assumptions, taboos and stereotypes when it comes to older people and sexual intimacy, and Touching Base will have a lot to offer attendees.

Rachel Wotton spoke at the "Elephant in the Room" conference at the Crown Plaza Terrigal on the opening day.
The conference aimed to have a frank discussion about breaking down barriers in the aged and disability are sector. One of the areas discussed was issues around sex, aging and sex and disability.
Our 45-minute workshop outlined the training workshops Touching Base delivers, our sex worker referral list and a number of educational resources we provide, that people can utilise in their workplaces.
It also looked at the multifaceted roles sex workers can play in some peoples lives, including within the aged care and disability sectors.

Touching Base has been engaged with three student projects in the first half of this year. Two students from the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) are conducting research for Touching Base into how local councils in the Sydney metro area are regulating the sex industry. Touching Base has a keen interest in discovering how local councils are performing, now that 20 years have passed since sex work was decriminalised in NSW.
A team of film students at Macquarie University are developing three new audiovisual training resources for Touching Base workshops. The students have interviewed two clients of sex workers with disability and produced two 10 minute videos about their experiences. The students also interviewed the manager of a supported accommodation unit. These new resources are going to contribute vital personal and professional perspectives to attendees at our workshops.
A group of five UTS students doing a communication module have kindly chosen Touching Base as their targeted project. Each of the students will be delivering a unique product for Touching Base, e.g. new information for our website, resources for stakeholders and a new three minute 'About Us' video.
