The Mother Road
Never in a million years would I have pictured myself as an axe-wielding, dragon lady, chopping up multi-colored flannel shirts into my very own plaid mulch. But here I am, chopping away my frustrations.
It all started when my brother, Paul, convinced me to go on one last family road trip across the Mother Road with him and my dad.. Just like old times, right? Wrong. What Paul fails to mention is his best man, Porter, will be joining us, who just so happens to be my childhood crush and the man who broke my heart four years ago.
What is supposed to be a fun, family bonding experience across Route 66 turns into a war of pranks, awkward moments and bathrooms full of dirty flannel shirts and day old beard clippings. Paul’s know-it-all attitude and Porter’s devilish charm brings me to the brink of my sanity on my seven day trek across the United States with three bearded men in a small 1980’s RV.

When I was in high school I occasionally read books but was consumed by other teenage things so I didn't take the time to appreciate a good book on a cloudy day, wrapped up in a blanket on the couch. It wasn't until I received a Kindle for Christmas one year that my world completely flipped upside down. When looking for books I came across the Contemporary Romance genre and was sold and I haven't turned back since.
You can either find my head buried in my Kindle, listening to inspiring heart ripping music or typing away on the computer twisting and turning the lives of my characters while driving my readers crazy with anticipation.
I currently reside in beautiful Colorado Springs where the sun is always shining and there is a trail waiting to be hiked on every corner. I share a lovely and warm home with the love of my life and my five, four-legged children.

The story is funny and very over the top and then after awhile the humor just kept going and going and even though I chuckled I was pushing on to find the meat of the whole book. I wanted more depth or maybe I just got tired of the humor.
Regardless, I’m getting off here in the middle of Route 66!

Marley's dad Bernie and brother Paul show up in California sporting the family RV. Paul is getting married and they decided the perfect way to get him ready for the marriage is a road trip in memory of their mom in Tacy. Tacy is so named for one of the characters in The Long, Long Trailer. She is about that old also, her tire on the back is sagging, her paint is flaking. Road trip!!
What Marley doesn't realize is that Paul's best bro-mance friend Porter is going to be the hitch-hiker they pick up. Porter is the brother's best friend that broke Marley's heart.

They embark upon the journey for the perfect hotdog for their beloved mom's memory.
The stops along the way give you the feeling of being along for the ride......I LOVE some road tripping.
(The blue whale story will never be removed from the scar it left in my mind)
Then there is the humor.
Marley's brother Paul is the perfect comic relief. He has no shame in the fact that most of the time his family and friend are wondering how the heck he is getting married since he seems to be minus a nut sac.
Sometimes the humor does wear thin in the book though because it does seem to never end. Fart jokes and bodily functions do happen pretty regularly in this family. Plus they have no concept of TMI.
I did end up enjoying the book though and the sex made up for lots of farting, and I loved these frigging characters.
There comes a time in a girl's life when she has to reach deep down into her soul, clear the pathways of her inner goddess, and let out her nuclear Satan. You know what I'm talking about.

By now it should go without saying that I seriously dig on road trip stories. And when some salami hidin’ is thrown in to the mix?#boooooiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnng I mean . . . .
This scientific journal was about Marley – a girl who left the farm for college and then moved alllllll the way across the country in order to start adulting. The week before her brother’s wedding she gets a surprise in the form of her father, brother, and Tacy (a “vintage” RV) all at her front door. The reason? They’re going to fulfill Marley’s deceased mom’s bucket list of traveling “The Mother Road” . . . .

Where was I? Oh yeah, surprise visitors and an impromptu road trip. Marley’s down with the plan – until she discovers her brother’s best man Porter will also be along for the ride. The last time Marley saw Porter was on her prom night when he broke her heart. You’d think it would be easy to channel all the rage she’s been building up for the past four years, but it’s hard to do when you’re stuck in Tacy with someone so . . . . charming . . . .
It doesn’t help that Marley has been in a bit of a drought when it comes to the bow-chicka-wow-wow . . . .
“If my vagina could cough, it would cough up a cobweb and a note that read: Just pick a dick and get on with it. A girl needs her salami every once in a while.”
It also doesn’t help that Porter doesn’t seem to be the same man he was four years ago . . .
“What are you thinking?”

I developed a Stage-5 Clinger variety girl crush on Meghan Quinn with The Virgin Romance Novelist. I like my romance books heavy on the humor and she’s a freaking riot. She also supplies a supporting cast of well-developed characters, impeccable timing, actually sexy sex scenes with no ewwww factor or dirty speak, as well as delectable book boyfriends. Oh Porter . . .

I'm flying to Cali, searching out Marley, and stealing Porter for ME!!!! **cue maniacal laugh** AH! My God. Hahahahaha! Just kidding...well sort of. I just can't tone my book buzzing, crazy down.
My heart and my squishy belly (don't judge--I have so many books to read I'm practically drowning, so yeah... working on the abs... not happening) Anyway... as I was saying, my heart and my squishy belly dipped like crazy for him.
I couldn't stop swooning.
I COULD NOT STOP.
It was crazy.
At one point, I was sighing so blissfully and so heavily, my Husband looked at me and said, "What's got you all happy over there."
I didn't answer. After all, I didn't want to give him a complex. If I went into everything that was so amazing about Porter Smith... well, the poor guy.
So I just smiled sweetly and held up my Kindle in response.
But what I really wanted to say was, "It's not what, baby, it's WHO!!!!!!!!! It's Porter! Porter, the King of ALL book boyfriend magic. The man I want to eat up. Porter, who is sweet and sexy, possessive and protective, funny and flannel wearing, lumberjack looking, perfection. With his ovary busting smirk, his adorable chuckles, and his all-encompassing swoon, it's Porter. It's PORTER, the man with a heart of pure gold, the one I'm in love with. The man I just want to DEVOUR again and again."
GAHHHHH! He has me tied up in knots. KNOTS, I tell ya!
And Marley is just as magical, with her quick whit, charming personality, and totally off the hook humor, well I'm stolen by her as well. I love these characters. And I more than adore their story. I'm not sure why I haven't read a Meghan Quinn book before now, but I CLEARLY missed the "THIS AUTHOR WILL ROCK YOUR FACE OFF" book memo. I must have been napping, failing at life as a reader and a blogger, because right under my nose was an author who was going to give me EVERYTHING I need in a read.

STEAMY BUILD UP.
FUNNY. OTT/SOMETIMES CRUDE HUMOR.

Well, Marley gets an unexpected visit from her Dad and her brother Paul.
Let me say something about Paul before I go on. That man is a freaking princess. He's such a girl. He was so funny. Honestly, the laughs that he provided were PRICELESS. Actually, all the side characters really brought so much to this story.
Anyway... So Paul and Bernie have driven from NY to CALIFORNIA to pick up Marley. They sweetly inform her that they're taking the last road trip her mother had planned **cue feelssssss... wipes tears - Marley's mom passsed away** and they're doing it RIGHT NOW. They've brought Tacy along for the ride--their 1980's RV--and they're ready to hit The Mother Road as an ode to her mom.
Marley, being the cool chick she is (a beauty blogger who test products for a living), is happy to go. She can work from the RV and she's happy to spend some time with her Brother who's getting married, and her Dad who she adores. And so, they set forth on this journey and along the way they pick up... AH!
Guess who they pick up? **dramatic music now plays in this review**
YES... THEY PICK UP PORTER SMITH *angels break into song and dance** (giggles... Jeeezzzz.. I'm lame, but this review is so fun to write... anywhooo..."
Porter is Paul's BFF and a huge part of the family. And while picking up Porter is awesome for us, it's not so much for Marley. You see, this delicious man broke our precious Marley's heart. She's just can't get over it. So Marley sets out to make Porter miserable...
"Why don’t we try to enjoy each other’s company rather than be at each other’s throats?” Marley’s facial expressions are impossible to read right now as she steps closer to me.
“Don’t count on it, Porter. I plan on making your life a living hell on this RV.”
"Is that right?” Challenge is in her eyes.
"Oh, yeah. Watch your back, Smith, I’m coming for you, and you know what? Pay back is a b_ch.”
"Pay back for what?” I ask, semi-liking the fire I see spouting off of her.
She gets on her tippy toes and whispers in my ear. “For splitting my heart in half and leaving me to bleed on my own.” <<--- She's a little pissed off... Haha.
And from there the journey begins...
The book is SO FUN AND SO SWEET. The build up of feels between Porter and Marley is heart tugging and emotional. And the steamy side of things is down right lip licking-shiver worthy- perfection. These characters are perfect.
Meghan Quinn wrote a story that held everything I could ever want. Reading The Mother Road was a pleasure, one that satisfied me on so many levels. It's crazy to say, but I'm pretty sure this will go down as one of my TOP 2016 reads. The year is just starting, but this book owned every single bit of me. And I can't get over just how incredible it was. It went BEYOND anything I expected. I more than loved it. And I MORE than recommend it.

I will forever be hers, no matter where her life leads her without me.
Any book that makes me laugh loud enough to scare my dog gets a big old thumbs up from me. The Mother Road is absolutely adorable and hilarious. The majority of this book was me laughing out loud and a huge smile on my face, till my cheeks hurt. After reading Boss Man Bridegroom (one of my favorite rom-coms) which held the same energy, I expected nothing less by Meghan Quinn. I am a huge fan of Meghan and I love her particular brand of humour. I would like to say that this book is the MORE ENJOYABLE than the latter, at least for me. It's funny, silly and crazy. The pacing of this is great and I enjoyed the writing so much that I didn't want to put this down. It has a really simple plot but the characters are what make this special.
↳ PORTER + PAUL... THE EPIC BROMANCE:
I am still not convinced that this book is not about PAUL (Marley's brother) + PORTER and their epic, EPIC bromance. Forget Marley, forget the road trip, forget everything but THIS? This shit is to die for. Porter and Paul could've been happily married and I would've seen it as a win because their bromance steals the show. It was beyond hilarious. Like, is someone really your best friend if you don't powder their hairy butt for them? And then their banter. . . gah. It was so on point. It was so sparky and satisfying. It was sassy and fierce but intricately laced with these shimmering threads of emotion. INSANE is not enough of a word to describe them.
“Porter, will you…powder my butt for me?”
...
“I swear on the tip of your dick, if you ever utter what I’m about to do to anyone, I will make sure your asshole really is welded shut and you spend the rest of your life pooping through a tube. You got it?”
Paul nods in agreement and sticks his butt out to me.
↳ PORTER SMITH:
I loved Porter because there was so much more to him than what meets the eye. He was funny and smart and endearing, and also completely besotted with Marley. He was just delightful. Even though he hasn't seen Marley in over four years, he was always happy for her success. He doesn’t try to change her or make her different. He accepts her for who she turned out to be. These two shared a deep and loving connection and I was thrilled they were able to put the fears and doubts behind them and enjoy their much deserved happily ever after.
We’re supposed to be just friends, but if she ever gave me an inkling of anything more, I would hop on that train and ride her fucking caboose like I was the conductor.
↳ MARLEY MCMANN:
I've got to show some love for Marley. She wasn't backing down when Porter was pushing all of her buttons. That girl was going toe-to-toe with him, it was so much fun to watch. I love that her character seemed authentic. She is outspoken, she's quirky, she's feisty and witty, and she doesn't put up with anybody's bad habits and bad behavior, and she was everything that Porter needed but didn't know he needed. Her drive and ambition was admirable and her interactions with her family were pure gold.
If you’re going to go crazy, do it right.
Humor aside - and it must be said again that this story is achingly hilarious - there were many serious and emotional moments but the story never lost its charm and humor. The plot gets additional layers of emotions that filled my heart. And while things never get overly dramatic, they do get serious in a way only Meghan Quinn can pull off. The burn was perfectly slow but the whole book was rewarding, regardless.

If you want a book that will keep a smile in your face and your belly hurting from so much laughter, look no further. I can now say without a doubt that if you’re looking for a feel good romantic comedy, Meghan Quinn's The Mother Road is the one for you.

Porter was sexy as hell. I love how loyal and considerate he was. I also love how much vulnerability he had.
Paul and Bernie were great supporting characters. Each of them had their own amusing quirks that added to the colorful personalities on board the dilapidating RV.
The story was a fun one, that’s for sure. It had a lot of mindless humor, some crude and downright disgusting. But at the same time, there were also some emotional moments to balance it.
The Mother Road is an amusing story of a family road trip that will make you laugh, cringe and swoon, and would be a perfect pick-me-up book whenever you need one.

I have never laughed so hard while reading a book in my life. This book was absolutely hilarious. There were so many laugh-out-loud moments, there was no way I could've read this book in public. Not only is this book super funny, it's also really sweet and heartwarming. Even with this book being a bit crude and the shenanigans a bit ridiculous, the romance was really well developed, sweet and steamy. There were also a few emotional moments that really touched my heart. I really LOVED this book and I would love to take a road trip with the Mcmann family!

Meghan Quinn writes humour that is quirky, weird, utterly hilarious and just the teeniest bit on the wrong side of fucked up – her characters are no different and with The Mother Road she not only hit the mark but raised the bar on what Romantic Comedy should be completely. I was cackling like an insane person all throughout this book (when I wasn’t squirming in embarrassment for her poor characters or sniffling through the sweet moments). This, right here, is the pinnacle of Rom-Com. The summit of Rom-Com. The apex of… nay…The Rom-Com-ipice.
She has a magical flair for describing a completely normal situation and turning it into the funniest thing you’ve heard all day, so when you escalate that with the imaginative situations and weird and wonderful characters she conjures up, prepare yourself to suffer tummy cramps from laughing, because it is just THAT funny.
Marley’s brother is getting married soon and as a last hoorah he’s planned the mother of all road trips in honour of their deceased mother who planned the trip on The Mother Road (still with me? ) down Route 66 and Marley is soon stuck in an RV with three bearded men gasping through the man fog. To make matters just slightly more uncomfortable, one of the beards belong to her long time crush, her brother’s best friend and the man who broke her heart four years ago, Porter Smith.
On this week-long journey, loyalties will be tested by an increasingly devious prank war between siblings, dignities will be bid adieu by embarrassing moments and tales alike, an array of odd characters will be met, tempers will be tested and grown men will cry over road trip games. But most of all, an extremely sweet romance will grow and sexual tensions will be snapped.
Marley is an utterly human and loveable character. She’s sassy, foolish, stubborn and hopelessly infatuated with Porter even while still harbouring anger towards him for what he did to her. If only he hadn’t become even hotter since she last saw him, things would be so much easier. Porter is equally taken with Marley but because she is his best friend’s sister and he feels as though he could never be good enough for her and would only hold her back in life, he fights against his feelings and tries desperately not to act on them. With their back and forth behaviour and underlying anger, the tension between them sizzled and when these tensions culminated in some hot and secret sexy times, they burned off the pages. Porter hides a lot of insecurities under all his cockiness but when his vulnerabilities peaked through the facade, he was unbearably sweet. It made for some heart-felt and tender moments through all the hilarity.
As a whole this book was laugh-out-loud funny and I couldn’t wait to see what this band of misfits would get themselves into next. Every single one of the characters in this book, no matter how small the part, was exceptional. There were moments that were so touching it had me shedding a tear, but the biggest tear was shed after I had to close this book after an epic ending, and realise that there was no more.
Absolutely loved and adored every single word of this book and it is very highly recommended. It’s already one of my favorites for 2016.

Did I lose weight? I swear I did, because I completely laughed my ass off reading this book. No joke, it is probably the funniest book I have ever read. The comedy in this book goes way beyond just a little snicker here and there. No, I’m talking full out, laugh-til-you-cry, roll-around-clutching-your-belly, almost-pee-your-pants kind of humor.
So, imagine you are stuck in an aging RV with your dad, your big brother, and his best friend for an entire week. These are men with beards, flannels, and flatulence. Can you see where this is going?
I don’t want to give you the wrong impression about this book. Yes, it is freaking hilarious, but it is also a heartwarming story with poignant family moments. The road trip is a milestone for each of them, and with it comes with some heartfelt dialogue and maybe, if you’re like me, a few tears.
What I loved about this book, first and foremost, is the characters. The more you read about them, the more they become a part of your crazy, extended family. You have Paul, the brother who’s a genius, but mostly acts like a teenage drama queen. Then there’s Bernie (Dad), with his ninja eyebrows and Presidential swear words. You also have the family friend, Porter. He’s very sweet, loves unconditionally, and makes sacrifices at the expense of his own happiness. Finally, there’s the heroine, Marley. She’s completely relatable, extremely caring, and highly ambitious. I loved everyone, but the scenes with just Porter and Marley were definitely my favorite!
In the end, the combination of these four, plus the shenanigans of a week-long trip in a 1980’s RV, makes for a delightfully entertaining read. I highly recommend it–especially if you are in touch with your inner 12-year-old!

Excuse me while I try to pause my hysterical laughter long enough to write this review. It may be a touch difficult, though. Because every time I think of the ridiculous, slightly (okay, maybe more than slightly) juvenile humor, I crack up all over again. I spent a large portion of The Mother Road convulsing with laughter. In public. Yup, in the school pick-up line. At my daughter’s gymnastics. In a car park, waiting for my husband at the store. #NoRegrets. If only someone had knocked on my window or sidled into the seat next to me, I’d have told them, GET THIS FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT BOOK.
Why? Ah, aside from the aforementioned side-splitting, childish AF humor, this book was a charming, sweet and swoony brother’s best friend romance (LOVE those), with the most realistically annoying brother/sister relationship and altogether fairytale-esque family dynamic. If fairytales focus on poo and wee jokes, and random Route 66 facts, that is. Bernie, Paul, Porter and Marley are this rag-tag group of travelers embarking on America’s Road Trip—in tribute to Mama McCann, gone but not ever forgotten—and they’re just…amazing.
Seriously, so amazing. Porter and Marley are, of course, the central characters; their second chance-y brother’s best friend romance this adorable little gem that started antagonistic, because apparently Porter was a dick four year prior to the start of the book, and blossomed into this sexy, steamy, funny, playful love that just made me smile. When I wasn’t laughing. I mentioned the laughs already though, so let’s move on.
I practically broke my face smiling through this book. I’d just finished reading a book that kinda, sorta tore my heart into ti-tiny little pieces and I needed this refreshing book to clear the air and make me all mushy, giddy, slap-happy again. And it did from the first chapter. With Paul’s poorly grown and groomed beard, and Bernie’s occasional—damn hilarious—dips into the bickering between brother and sister and friend, and the crazy games and traditions that this family had in Tacy, the RV, it was impossible that it not.
I don’t really know what else to say about The Mother Road. It was, to me, pretty perfect. It was all the things I love, signed off with this off-the-charts perfect ending that just, gah, SWOONED AND DIED AND LOVED AND LAUGHED. Essentially.

I love a good road trip book and I adore brother's best friend romances so this was set up to be a sure thing for me. This was my first book by Meghan Quinn and I'd heard a little buzz so I sort of knew what to expect going into it—but I was still surprised by how often and how long I laughed out loud. This book is fucking FUNNY, in big ways and small. In ways that sometimes felt a little too over the top for my comfort zone and in other ways that felt so authentic and "real life" to me that I was nodding and laughing all "it's funny cuz it's true."
When Marley's brother (Paul) and Dad (Bernie) show up at her California apartment unexpectedly and unannounced, she learns they want to whisk her away on a seven day road trip along the "Mother Road". The trip will pay homage to Marley’s mom—who was the heart of their childhood road trips until she passed away—and will end at Paul's wedding back in New York. Unable to refuse, Marley agrees to go to celebrate the time with her family, and Paul's upcoming wedding.
She never expected that Porter Smith—Paul’s best friend and Marley’s first love—would be joining the trip. This is not good news. Marley has been in love with Porter for years, almost against her will and despite the fact that Porter demolished her heart four years ago and she hasn't spoken to him since. She's not prepared to share space with him, or for him to be (irritatingly) even better looking than she remembered him. And she’s especially not prepared for the fact that, after all this time and heartbreak, there may still be feelings between them.
Things are pretty frosty between Porter and Marley in the beginning. She's still nursing the wounds Porter inflicted when he smashed her heart to smithereens—and those wounds have been festering for four years, so they’re pretty ugly and raw. It was actually kind of hard for me to read at first. I'm a big fan of ooey gooey and there was no ooey gooey to be found in their first few interactions. When it finally did come, it was sort of abrupt and still not exactly ooey gooey. Sexy, for sure, but I might have liked a little more swoon in the build-up. However, what it lacked in swoon, it more than made up for in humor and then the swoon came out in spades later.
I really loved Marley and Porter, but a great deal of the charm of this book was in the whole family dynamic. Despite the fact that they're in their 20s, Paul and Marley fall into their childhood brother/sister relationship. That is, they pick on each other—mercilessly. Pranks and teasing and crude/vulgar taunts. The fact that Bernie sometimes joins in was both hysterical and adorable. The fact that they include Porter as part of their family made my heart explode a little bit. I loved this little family—even if sometimes my nose wrinkled in disgust at them. They have so much heart and affection underneath all that antagonistic banter. I loved the games they played and the memories they shared. I loved their quirk and irreverence, but I most especially loved how they dug deep and got real when the situation warranted. In particular? I loved Bernie so much. I want Bernie to be my dad.
And then—that ending.
Oh God, the ending. It's like all the swoon built up over the course of the entire book and just EXPLODED in the end. I cried a little bit. I smiled so hard. I fell so completely and incredibly in love with Porter Smith.
This book just felt good. There were so many feels and (aside from that frostiness in the beginning, which any woman who has ever been scorned will forgive) every single one of them was good, and warm, and fuzzy, and hilarious—and sometimes a little bit sexy. So, if you’re looking for a lot of fun, some wild and raunchy humor, and something to fill your heart with butterflies and smiles? This is just the thing. ~ Shelly, 4.5 stars

Between Marley and Paul’s sibling stupidity (beer hijinks, mascara usage on hair other than eyelashes), Bernie’s penchant for replacing swears with names of presidents, Porter’s secrets, Paul's girlish tendencies, and enough sexual tension between Marley and Porter to choke an elephant, you cannot turn the pages fast enough to see where this crazy RV adventure is going to take you.
Keep your tissues handy because you're going to need them to wipe the tears of laughter that will stream down your face. And, of course, there's lots of sweet and sexy moments, and lovely, poignant memories made on a fun and crazy family road trip. This was my first book by Meghan Quinn and I'd heard a little buzz so I sort of knew what to expect going into it—but I was still surprised by how often and how long I laughed out loud. This book is fucking FUNNY, in big ways and small. In ways that sometimes felt a little too over the top for my comfort zone and in other ways that felt so authentic and "real life" to me that I was nodding and laughing all "it's funny cuz it's true."
When Marley's brother (Paul) and Dad (Bernie) show up at her California apartment unexpectedly and unannounced, she learns they want to whisk her away on a seven day road trip along the "Mother Road". The trip will pay homage to Marley’s mom—who was the heart of their childhood road trips until she passed away—and will end at Paul's wedding back in New York. Unable to refuse, Marley agrees to go to celebrate the time with her family, and Paul's upcoming wedding.
She never expected that Porter Smith—Paul’s best friend and Marley’s first love—would be joining the trip. This is not good news. Marley has been in love with Porter for years, almost against her will and despite the fact that Porter demolished her heart four years ago and she hasn't spoken to him since. She's not prepared to share space with him, or for him to be (irritatingly) even better looking than she remembered him. And she’s especially not prepared for the fact that, after all this time and heartbreak, there may still be feelings between them.
Things are pretty frosty between Porter and Marley in the beginning. She's still nursing the wounds Porter inflicted when he smashed her heart to smithereens—and those wounds have been festering for four years, so they’re pretty ugly and raw. It was actually kind of hard for me to read at first. I'm a big fan of ooey gooey and there was no ooey gooey to be found in their first few interactions. When it finally did come, it was sort of abrupt and still not exactly ooey gooey. Sexy, for sure, but I might have liked a little more swoon in the build-up. However, what it lacked in swoon, it more than made up for in humor and then the swoon came out in spades later.
I really loved Marley and Porter, but a great deal of the charm of this book was in the whole family dynamic. Despite the fact that they're in their 20s, Paul and Marley fall into their childhood brother/sister relationship. That is, they pick on each other—mercilessly. Pranks and teasing and crude/vulgar taunts. The fact that Bernie sometimes joins in was both hysterical and adorable. The fact that they include Porter as part of their family made my heart explode a little bit. I loved this little family—even if sometimes my nose wrinkled in disgust at them. They have so much heart and affection underneath all that antagonistic banter. I loved the games they played and the memories they shared. I loved their quirk and irreverence, but I most especially loved how they dug deep and got real when the situation warranted. In particular? I loved Bernie so much. I want Bernie to be my dad.
And then—that ending.
Oh God, the ending. It's like all the swoon built up over the course of the entire book and just EXPLODED in the end. I cried a little bit. I smiled so hard. I fell so completely and incredibly in love with Porter Smith.
This book just felt good. There were so many feels and (aside from that frostiness in the beginning, which any woman who has ever been scorned will forgive) every single one of them was good, and warm, and fuzzy, and hilarious—and sometimes a little bit sexy. So, if you’re looking for a lot of fun, some wild and raunchy humor, and something to fill your heart with butterflies and smiles? This is just the thing. ~ Shelly, 4.5 stars

Keep your tissues handy because you're going to need them to wipe the tears of laughter that will stream down your face. And, of course, there's lots of sweet and sexy moments, and lovely, poignant memories made on a fun and crazy family road trip. I have been looking forward to reading this book for some time. I know it's one of Meghan's beloved books and I don't know why it took me this long to get to it!
Let me start with the positives. I loved the road trip aspect, the family dynamic (especially Marley and her dad) and the brother's best friend romance. Sigh. I love all of these things in books and I think a lot of this was done well.
So why not a higher rating you may ask? I don't know if it was me or my mood, but if I had to hear about one more bodily function or a joke based on one I was going to gag. Seriously. I am a nurse and I don't have a weak stomach, but after a while these jokes got less funny for me and more just nasty. This could very well be a 'me' thing but it took me out of the story so many times and though there were a lot of super funny parts, some were just way too over the top/immature for me.

This book should come with a warning label. Do not read in areas where members of the public can see you. If you choose to ignore this warning the author cannot be held accountable for any resulting actions taken against you. For example, the concerned stares as you appear to suffer from a seizure, while actually laughing so hard you fold yourself in half while holding your stomach and gasping for air. Or when you're sat in a quiet coffee shop and suddenly start snorting with laughter like a pig. (I can never take that bus route or use that shop again!)
This book was over the top, immature, ridiculous and crude but it was also sweet and emotional. It's the heart of a real family.
Part of the reason I loved this so much is because my family is nearly as crazy as he McManns. When we all get together you need to go in prepared or you'll come out needing a lifelong prescription for Xanax. You can guarantee that poo will be mentioned within the first hour; my Dad will retreat into his head quietly in the corner muttering about us belonging to the milkman; at least one adult will cry because they lost at UNO; the ceiling will have some new cracks in it thanks to whatever it is the kids are doing upstairs that sounds like a heard of elephants; my Mum will have said the word penis at least 10 times; my sister would have been tormented with buttons because it's funny to watch her dry heave over them; you have to hear at least once about your parents having sex and that's all before dinner. We're crude, immature, too loud and all go home exhausted half hating each other and needing a weeks holiday to recover, but above everything we LOVE each other. And that was what I felt right from the start of this book.
I highlighted so many sections. And I have to say.. dare I say it ... I have to say it ... should I? Okay, I'll say it - this was the funniest book I have EVER read. Like EVER I tell you, EVER!

4 Marbles stars!
Oh my goodness! I haven't laughed that hard in a while. there was one chapter that had me laughing to tears and when my daughter asked me what was wrong I couldn't stop laughing for a good five minutes!
This was such a fun read, but if you can't stand crude humour, bathroom jokes, plenty of farts and pranks then stay far away!!
I wasn't that in love with Marley. She seemed to fly off the handle too quickly. I did like how she acted like one of the guys and didn't put up with anything from them.
I loved Porter! I love me a strong farm boy. I admire that he was trying to make something of himself and escape his family legacy. It was nice that this story had the two POV's so that we could see what he was going through as well. He was so endearing with his feeling towards Marley and everything that he did was to ensure her happiness and success.
I totally would have loved to have a father like Bernie! His presidential swearing was adorable, and his deep love for his wife (who passed away years ago) was sweet, and his love for his kids was so genuine and real. I loved him and Mama McMann even more for taking in Porter and treating him like their own.
I can't forget to mention Paul. Marley's older brother who was in touch with his feminine side and provided endless pages of comic relief.
I really enjoyed this trip, riding along in Tacey with the McMann family. A very funny, lighthearted summer read.

I am usually weary of this type of romance - you know the, I have loved him my whole life and he broke my heart years ago trope. The way that Mrs. Quinn presented it though, was the best possible way IMO. This romance was very FUNNY and you had to get past almost 50% before it became really romantic and not just funny.
I really enjoyed all of the main characters, especially Paul and even Savannah. They were super cute! I would definitely read more by this author since I also read and enjoyed Newly Exposed for the most part. I won't read the Virgin Romancenovelist because I can't deal with a hero like Henry, but that's my own triggers :)

The Mother Road by Meghan Quinn
4.5 stars!!
This book was exactly what I needed after a slew of emotional, intense and suspenseful reads. I may be forty-two but even I can still relate to my childish side and this book tugged at this side of me all the way through.
The humour throughout this book is hysterical and incredibly abundant, I had a lot of tears and 99.99% of them were tears of laughter. Pranks galore, hilarious dialogue and a Dad I could die for left me in stitches so many times. Yes, it was juvenile, but seriously, I wish I had that kind of relationship with my siblings, the things I could have got up to…the list is endless and I now have a plethora of ideas…is forty-two too old to start?
Meghan Quinn’s humour is apparent throughout and it seems she is totally like the woman I assumed she was, quirky and extremely funny and someone I would love to meet, but I feel I would need protection lol. This book was the epitome of a romantic comedy and will definitely go down as one of my all-time favourites. I am British, I have a very dry sense of humour and I have to admit a lot of these romantic comedies just go way over the top of my head, but because this was fantastic juvenile humour even my British brain got it and revelled in it and laughed along too, most of the time, hysterically.
This was a road trip on Route 66, a last hoorah for Marley’s brother who was getting married and also a homage to her late mother who had planned this trip before she passed away. This was a road trip where Marley was the only woman, trapped in a camper van from the 70’s with three, yes three men. Marley’s brother thought it appropriate to bring his best man on this trip, a man who he had been friends with since childhood, a boy that was an adopted son to her parents and a man that Marley crushed on for years and years and years. Things were about to get messy.
Porter Smith was the man in question, a man that Marley at one point thought she had finally got through too, a man that she loved but he was also a man that left her four years ago before things ever really got started. Was Porter the heart breaking jerk that Marley thought he was or was there a method to his apparent madness?
I have to say I loved everyone in this book, there was no character at all that I could say a bad word about. Marley was just that, Marley, she was beauty blogger, she had a wicked sense of humour, said what was on her mind and could play pranks with the best of them. However, she had been pining over Porter for years, no man ever shaped up to the man on Porter’s pedestal no matter how hard she had tried to forget and now spending a whole week with him was going to be emotional torture.
Marley’s brother Paul was a total pansy, I can’t help it, he was… seriously, but it is this pansyness that created some of the most hysterical laughter. He must have been molly coddled as a child because seriously if I didn’t know he was a male I would have told him to grow some balls. You would think this would be irritating…but seriously it isn’t.
Porter, his was amazing…seriously amazing…he knew what he had done four years ago would have hurt Marley, but even he didn’t realise how much and he soon realises he has a lot to make up for and a lot to prove. While he is keen to rekindle their friendship as he misses his friend, even he is not oblivious to the intense chemistry that is still sparking between them. While he feels he is just a farmer and does not deserve her, sometimes chemistry has a way of waking you up to smell the coffee.
Dad, Bernie, he was blunt, he was honest, he over shared… A LOT, but he was the best Dad. While for him this trip was melancholy, he still joined in the high jinks and acted as a rather biased mediator and you knew you had him when a president popped into a conversation. He was fantastic.
All I can say is read this book, have tissues to hand, because you will need them, you may need a Tena lady if you leak when you laugh, but most of all don’t read this in public places if a sudden guffaw and hysterical laughter will make people think you are a certified nutter. Most of all just enjoy it, Meghan Quinn may be crazy, but she is my kind of crazy. Fabulous book and one that I will re-read when I need a pick me up…and of course for ideas!

Paul is getting married so he wanted to take one last road trip with his sister Marley and father Bernie. One little secret he forgot to mention is that he invited his best friend Porter to join the family fun. Did I mention Porter broke Marley’s heart 4 years before? Well, he did! Imagine going on a road trip with the boy who shattered your heart and ruined you for all men. Well, it makes for a very interesting journey especially in close quarters Can she survived?
“You know what? You are right. We should really do some catching up. Tell me, how many women have you banged since you left me naked and alone?”
This whole book surrounding 4 main characters travelling in an RV across the country one last road trip as a family. I don’t know how Meghan did it but she made a whole full length novel out of it and let me tell you it’s freaking funny and wicked … you cannot stop reading it. This book is a love story between Porter and Marley of course, but it is also a sweet story about family’s time, how they all love each other, and how they keep their mother’s memory alive. It was definitely heart-warming to see the deep bond between Paul, Marley and their father. They love Porter dearly because he has been part of their family for so long - he is just like a second son to Bernie. A lot of time I only like one or two characters in a book and then some one eventually annoyed me. Not this book, I really fall in love with all characters. Paul is kind, sweet, a little feminine at time (you will see the tricks they play on each other ). Marley is beautiful, successful blogger, a spitfire. Porter is packing a hot body probably from all the time working on Bernie’s farm… swoon. He wants Marley badly but it’s the forbidden love with your best friend’s sister that stop his track. Bernie is sweet, caring and super fun – you can’t help but want him to find love again. You just have to read this book - all the tricks, the teasing, and the banters make me laugh so hard the whole time. Don’t worry since this is a romance – there will be plenty of angst, sexual tension and yummy scenes… wink wink wink! Also, I got a little emotional at the end reading the letters but not too bad… it’s an important of the story.

Meghan’s romance comedy book is brilliant. I freaking LOVED IT!!!
It was a very nice break from all the heavy, ugly cry book I usually read . If you are looking for a feel good, hilarious comedy, sweet, sexy, heart-warming story – this is definitely a book for you.

Paul is getting married so he wanted to take one last road trip with his sister Marley and father Bernie. One little secret he forgot to mention is that he invited his best friend Porter to join the family fun. Did I mention Porter broke Marley’s heart 4 years before? Well, he did! Imagine going on a road trip with the boy who shattered your heart and ruined you for all men. Well, it makes for a very interesting journey especially in close quarters Can she survived?
“You know what? You are right. We should really do some catching up. Tell me, how many women have you banged since you left me naked and alone?”
This whole book surrounding 4 main characters travelling in an RV across the country one last road trip as a family. I don’t know how Meghan did it but she made a whole full length novel out of it and let me tell you it’s freaking funny and wicked … you cannot stop reading it. This book is a love story between Porter and Marley of course, but it is also a sweet story about family’s time, how they all love each other, and how they keep their mother’s memory alive. It was definitely heart-warming to see the deep bond between Paul, Marley and their father. They love Porter dearly because he has been part of their family for so long - he is just like a second son to Bernie. A lot of time I only like one or two characters in a book and then some one eventually annoyed me. Not this book, I really fall in love with all characters. Paul is kind, sweet, a little feminine at time (you will see the tricks they play on each other ). Marley is beautiful, successful blogger, a spitfire. Porter is packing a hot body probably from all the time working on Bernie’s farm… swoon. He wants Marley badly but it’s the forbidden love with your best friend’s sister that stop his track. Bernie is sweet, caring and super fun – you can’t help but want him to find love again. You just have to read this book - all the tricks, the teasing, and the banters make me laugh so hard the whole time. Don’t worry since this is a romance – there will be plenty of angst, sexual tension and yummy scenes… wink wink wink! Also, I got a little emotional at the end reading the letters but not too bad… it’s an important of the story.
“Marley, I would have jumped at the chance of being with you back then but I knew I had to let you go so you could grow into the intelligently beautiful woman you are today.”
Meghan’s romance comedy book is brilliant. I freaking LOVED IT!!!
It was a very nice break from all the heavy, ugly cry book I usually read . If you are looking for a feel good, hilarious comedy, sweet, sexy, heart-warming story – this is definitely a book for you.

What can I say? I can see why others might find this book hilarious but I guess I'm just not the bodily functions/toilet humor type of gal. There were a few things that I found mildly amusing and liked the story enough to finish the book but it really wasn't my thing.

This is by far the FUNNIEST book I have ever read in my entire life. OMG. I found myself laughing out loud so many times with tears streaming down my face… Geez, this was good! So far, this is my FAVORITE book of 2016. I just cannot get over how good it was. Not only did it incorporate the best humor that you typically only find with comedians, but there were some really sweet moments too. Gah, this is amazing. If you haven’t read it yet you really need to!
The Plot:
So this book centers around a road trip between three family members (and a friend of the family-Porter) as they are living out their mother’s memory. This one last hurrah before Marley’s brother, Paul, gets hitched. Within each leg of the road trip, something funny goes down. We’ve got hilarious sibling pranks, some pretty awkward and cringe worthy moments, and a bit of a romance. You see, Marley has been in love with her brother’s best friend Porter since they were kids. And as he is their guest on the trip, old flames begin to ignite. But with all the embarrassing stuff going on, and a long run hatred for the way they left things back at prom, it’s hard to give into those flames. Also, that moment where Marley gets explosive diarrhea in the RV (without a working toilet) doesn’t help the situation…
The entire plot is fun, filled with humor, and very sweet once you get to the root of Marley and Porter’s problems. While I found myself LOL’ing through most of the book, I have to admit there were some teary moments as well. Yes, the book does have a serious side and it’s what lays under the humor that will really touch your heart.
The Characters:
Marley is the best female lead in a book that I have ever met. She is fun, flirty, has a badass attitude, and knows how to pull of the best pranks ever. She also has a sweet and sensitive side and you can see this through her interaction with her father, Bernie. Marley’s character is what makes this book whole and without her in it, it would not be the same. She is the perfect mixture of sass and fun.
Porter is the friend of the family. He and Paul (Marley’s brother) have been friends forever (since they were kids anyway) and he is the best man at Paul’s wedding. He is tall, dark, and handsome. He has the perfect V…. AND a beard. DELICIOUS. He is also very sweet and charming and I totally swooned for him. Really, there need to be more Porter’s in the world. While some readers may not forgive Porter for leaving Marley on her prom night, it should be known that he has a very specific and understandable reason for doing so. I know this may turn people off, but I promise you, he is honestly the best male role in a long time and has a strong heart. I loved him.
Along with these two, there is Paul (Marley’s brother). If I didn’t know any better, I would have assumed he was gay due to the way he carries himself. He is also a total drama queen, screams like a teenage girl on her period, and is deathly afraid of spiders. No one (including readers) can quite understand how this man was ever in the army or how he was ever able to get a girl to marry him. He is by far the funniest character in the story. I loved him to pieces and REALLY would love to see a story that revolves around him and his wife Savannah!
Final Thoughts:
I don’t usually write super long reviews because it’s not always helpful to readers who just want a quick YAY or NAY on a book. But this one deserved it. This book has so many amazing qualities and I think readers need to know what they are getting themselves into before diving into this one. It is literally pee-your-pants funny and by far the BEST comedy I have EVER read. If I could rate this book 6 stars or above, I would. That is simply how amazing this one is. Finally, just because I mention all of the humor in this book, don’t let it fool you. There is a romance aspect of this book and it is GOOD. So, like I said, if you haven’t picked up this book yet I strongly suggest doing so. It. Is. Simply. Amazing.

The first reason why I was drawn to The Mother Road was the cover. Yep, really. I am a cover slut after all and this one? Pweeeeety.
Then the title.. I mean hello?! Anything that could involve a road trip... worth reading in my books.
The third and final reason why I chose this, the blurb.
Sounds so like my kinda book.
Well I knew this can go only one of two ways- I was going to love or loath it. AND. *looks at the rating* lurve it. I did.
I have never read anything by Quinn before, but the first thing I did after finishing this, browse amazon and get myself another book written by her. Because honestly I love how this was written.
The Mother Road is written in first person, alternating POV of Porter and Marley. It's in fact written like the two of them are friends and they telling you their side of the story. I loved both POV. And mostly though I loved the humor. This is really funny. So funny that I kept chuckling - Mr. O kept asking me what was so funny.. which meant I had to tell him.. which started getting annoying because I have so little reading time atm and I really wanted to enjoy the book...- Any way, this is hilarious. It has some absolutely beautiful and really funny moments. I love Quinn's humor.
Her writing style is witty, spunky and descriptive.
The story line is just like the blurb says. Essentially we have 4 people going on a road trip as a lot big hurray, eating a whole lot of hot dogs and playing lots of odd games, while reminiscing and honouring the past, but also making new memories.
As I said my kinda book. But if you expect loads of beautiful description of the landscape... not gonna happen. While they are on the road, their journey in a way is much more inward. This is all about those 4 people and their bonds. In the best possible way. Don't get me wrong, there are some great description, but there are way more great moments. I think they could have traveled to Mars, it wouldn't matter. (Well, obviously it does, because this trip has a personal meaning to them) But the point is, that Quinn writes this beautifully. I felt like I was on the road with them. And honestly she get's the balance just right. This isn't a travel novel after all. But you get the feel of the places they are at.
For someone who traveled a lot and who has done loads and loads of road trips The Mother Road felt like I was on the journey. All the ups and downs were in this. The mishaps that could happen... the private jokes one gets, the funny and the ugly it was all there. This felt authentic.
Then there are lots of foodie references. (that leads me to the question is there really a secret menu?!!)
I think I would be friends with Marley and Porter in RL... Paul... hmmmmmmmmmmmm. Weeeeellll. Actually yeah, I have a friend who Paul reminded me of. LOL. But I would draw the line on road trips.
Let's just put it out there: The Mother Road is completely and utterly character driving.
And Quinn did a fantastic job at character building. I honestly feel like I know all 4 of them. Like I was told the story by Porter and Marley. I felt their distress, was upset for them but also delighted and amused. Essentially we only get to know the 4 characters, we just get a small glimpse of a couple of others. Quinn created four complex individual characters, but more than that she wove a picture of their relationships. There is no insta nothing here. But deep roots, complex relations and history. Each one of them has a unique relationship with the others. They interwoven and all care for each other. And all of this feels like it could be real. There is no pretty or immaculate instead we get complicated and complex with real depth.
Another real romance book that is a must read IMO.

I’m tempted to not even write a review for this book. Yup it was THAT good and you need to TRUST me and just go ONE CLICK THAT BITCH NOW!!! To sum up how I feel, here was my message to Meghan when I finished…

This story of a cross country road trip brought back memories from my childhood. The pranks and teasing remind me so much of me and my siblings. I thought back to my youth, my first crush, MIX TAPES!!! You remember those right? I now want to whip out the boom box and get recording LMAO
Porter is TOTALLY a new fave BBF, especially after this…
Speaking the truth, I say, “I think you’re more beautiful and interesting version of Winnie Cooper.” I sigh and lick my lips. “Like Kevin Arnold, I finally get to hold the girl next door who’s always captured my heart.”
I was immediately able to connect with all of the characters, finding that they each match someone in my life. Marley is sarcastic and funny and goofy and Porter is swoon-worthy-sex-on-a-stick and heartfelt. You will laugh to the point of shooting coffee out your nose and you will need a tissue here and there as well…don’t say I didn’t warn you!
I am confident that after reading this book I will one day make this trip with my family and I hope to make as many memories with them as Marley, Paul, Porter and Bernie did! The Mother Road is full of fun and love and I cannot recommend it enough….#NoRegrets

This was another book that has been sitting on my TBR for over two years and I was eager to finally read it. I was initially drawn to the pretty cover and high ratings. I also love a good road trip story, add humor to boot and I’m sold. I couldn’t get enough of this family dynamic, along with the addition of Porter, the best man for Marley’s brother’s upcoming wedding (who also happened to be Marley’s childhood crush and the last man to break her heart).
Overall, this was the type of read I was expecting, with a hilarious family, crazy destinations, and an all-around fun road trip. I liked that the characters weren’t taking any old road trip and were actually taking a trip their mother had planned for the family before her passing. This added a heartwarming element to an otherwise mostly lighthearted story.
Unfortunately for me, as the story crept on, I began to feel the humor became a tad over the top and juvenile, especially when it came to Paul. In the beginning of the story, I didn’t mind him and even enjoyed the sibling banter between him and Marley. Somewhere toward the middle of the story, a weird shift happened. It felt as if he stopped being himself and turned into a terrible two-year-old liable to throw a tantrum at any moment. This was incredibly annoying for me as a reader. Also, I may be a bit uptight, but the vulgar humor wasn’t funny to me for most of the story. I see how it could be funny for many people, but it simply isn’t my style. If the majority of the characters were real people, I could not have handled being around them for more than a few minutes in real life, and by the end of the story, I was ready for them to grow up.
Porter and Bernie were the real winners of this book, in my opinion, and redeemed the story for me. Porter’s self-sacrificing love for Marley was sweet and made me adore him all the more. Bernie’s laid-back manner, dorky puns, and Presidential swearing were my favorite things in the entire story. He was a great dad and surrogate father to Porter. I want Bernie to be real!
I decided to stick to the middle with my rating, giving The Mother Road three stars. I liked the underlying story enough, laughed a couple of times, and enjoyed about half of the characters in this story. If I’m being honest, I probably will not reach for another Meghan Quinn book again because I didn’t enjoy her constant locker room humor. My apologies to her hardcore fans! I know there are many.

I am so very glad that I decided to read this. I've had it on my reader for months and months and for some reason I continually passed it up.
I must warn you. I read that this was funny. I saw the warnings about fits of laughter and people looking at you like you are a nut.....all true! I laughed so hard at one point that I woke my husband up.
As funny as this story was, there was also very emotional parts as well. I laughed and cried. Not many books can get actual belly laughs AND tears from me. Maybe it's because it was that feel good story about a family coming together and reliving a tradition that they had before the mom died. Having lost both of my parents, I wished I had an opportunity to do another family vacation like we did when I was a kid.

Meghan Quinn has delivered another huge hit with this book!
The Mother Road is full of the whit, humor and quirky comebacks that Meghan has become known for in her books. But this book will also have you feeling a little melancholy and tearing up – no, not from my laughter but from honest, heartfelt moments.
You know what the book is about, so I won’t rehash that. But I will tell you that Meghan has written some fantastic characters that are so well-rounded and awesome. They are real, honest and damn funny. Marley and Paul have the typical love/hate relationship between brother and sister. Porter just fits in perfectly with this family since he’s practically been raised by Mama McMann. And Bernie, their dad – that man is a hoot! There characters will become your best friends!
Meghan wrote a beautiful, hilarious and very memorable book. Yes, this book is full of laughter with all the jokes, pranks and sarcastic remarks throughout the road trip. But one thing that has absolutely stood out to me in this book, is the nostalgic parts of the book. The memories they all share and the new ones they make. I have not once cried (said of tears of laughter) while reading one of Meghan’s books. I can no longer say that. Meghan made me feel everything with this book. I was hysterically laughing one minute and then later on, I was tearing up from the memories they shared.
Oh yea – and because Marley is a beauty blogger, there are some interesting beauty tips throughout this book. I guarantee as you are read this book, you will be looking up those tips!

I don't know about anyone else but I would love nothing more than to see this book up on the big screen! Hilarious does not even begin to describe this latest book from one of my favorite authors. She definitely does not disappoint....as usual!
Marley gets talked into going on "one more road trip" with her brother who is due to be married soon and her father. Did I mention this trip is in their old and decrepit RV? The trip is sort of a tribute to their late mother...and hot dogs - don't ask! But what Marley does not count on is that her brothers best friend Porter will also be joining them.
Naturally, Porter is the friend who not only did Marley have a major crush on when she was younger but somehow Porter has scarred her for life and she is less then thrilled to see his face. Or is she?
While on this cross country drive in a dilapidated RV, the things that go on are straight out of a comedy. Clogged toilets, a mishap of urine and lots of hot dogs, the craziest games with a mix of love under the stars all rolled into one in this book! I had so many laugh out loud and quite a few cringe worthy moments and even an "awwwwe" moment. This book had everything! Think of the worst, most humiliating things that could happen in an RV and then multiply that by 1,000....I honestly don't know how Marley deals with it but she does it and I loved every hilarious moment!
Definitely pick up this book and get started to find out if Marley makes it through this trip with her overly dramatic brother, nostalgic father and her nemesis/love of her life, brothers best friend. I would love to read more about these three!

“Marley crosses her arms over her mouth-watering chest. I stare, straight up stare at her boobs. I’ll admit it, I stare, and for longer than I should…I just can’t seem to peel my eyes off of her. She’s sexy, she’s sensual, she’s a tight little pocket of sassy and sweet. We’re supposed to be just friends, but if she ever gave me an inkling of anything more, I would hop on that train and ride her fucking caboose like I was the conductor. Choo, choo…um, actually, let’s forget I even said that. I can see you raising the douche card. I revoke my sound effects; please don’t hold it against me.”
I really enjoyed The Mother Road because it was hilarious, raunchy and at times had me setting my kindle down so I could get back in my comfort zone. No spoilers but sharting….SHARTING!!! I am still emotionally scarred. I loved the sexual tension between Porter and Marley. Those two were never going to be able to stay away from each other for very long. Even with Princess Paul’s needy tendencies that distracted them. Paul…if you were my brother…you would be very, very sore. Groomzillas are now my biggest fear. I laughed a lot and savored the tender family moments reading this story.
If you find humor in being dick slogans and brothers who act like divas, you need to read The Mother Road. I’ve never camped in an RV or traveled on Route 66 but this book makes me want to try it. Maybe. Without the stinky boys.

Only Meghan Quinn manages to make me laugh so hard I'm in danger of peeing myself, only to turn me into a sobbing, blubbering mess a few pages later.
"The Mother Road" is a tremendously charming, witty, funny, sweet and sexy second chance romance.
It's the type of book to make me sad that the characters weren't real, because every single one of them was likable in their own quirky way.
And there was a lot of quirkiness between Paul and Marley, their father and Paul's best friend, Porter as they all take a trip down Route 66 in the old family RV.
If sharing a tiny space with three men wouldn't be horrific enough, Porter happens to be the man who broke Marley's little, loving heart.
Suddenly a week can turn into eternity when faced with clogged toilets, messy bathrooms, a drama queen for a brother and those pesky feelings for the man who either should be castrated or humped.
It was so easy to get lost in the story as I got to follow the characters on their adventure, learning more about them with each passing mile. It was weirdly comforting to witness their mishaps and learn about their thoughts and feelings. I felt close to them, invested in their fates.
So every emotion that hit them, hit me as well. Some of them so hard I was crying like a little baby.
Those moments snuck up on me and threw me for a loop - an ugly-crying, overwhelmed by emotions loop. But just as quick as those moments came on, they were replaced with situations that made me wake the whole building with my laughter.
What I really love is the fact that everything that is happening is realistic and many scenes will remind you of things that might have happened to you. At least, that's what it was like for me.
There were a few moments that made me cringe, sympathizing with Marley. But even when her situations weren't familiar, it was easy to relate to her because she's freakin' adorable.
Loving, sweet and genuine, she's easy to like. She's a mix of tomboy and diva, but never a b#?!h.
I loved that she managed to be girly, but not a vapid cow. And that no matter what happened, she kicked butt, stayed strong and feisty. Even when she was weak.
Poor girl was a magnet for embarrassment and bad luck. Too bad for her, good for me, because that made me hysterical with laughter.
Porter on the other hand didn't as much amuse me as he made my knees weak. Don't get me wrong, he was still funny-especially in his banter with Marley. But he was also a heart-melting, sweet guy who wasn't afraid to show emotions-unless they had to do with Marley of course. He was rugged and manly, yet had a soft and caring side.
He tugged at my heartstrings like a Flamenco guitarist-melting my heart and panties in the process. Oh and not to forget, he was hot, witty and not one bit of an alpha neanderthal. Hallelujah to that.
The back and forth between Marley and Porter was brilliant-full of with, humor and sarcasm. I just couldn't get enough of it and didn't want the book to end.
Another thing needs to be said-the other characters were in no way just forgettable supporting ones. Their personalities shined brightly and they just as much own my heart as Marley and Porter do.
The Bern-Man with his president swearing made me giggle. And Paul-there are no words to describe the laughter he caused.
If you want something for the heart, but also something that will make you roar with laughter, then get this book asap.

I cannot explain how good this book is, from the writing style to the characters. I loved both Marley (didn’t love the name so much because of THAT movie) and Porter (who was hot, by the way!).
It’s an epic love story and a road trip with some funny/irritating family members (we all have them).

I had this sat on my kindle for ages, and in an effort to be frugal, I am reading some of the many hundreds of unread books on my kindle!
So, I actually really really enjoyed this.
I was all set up to hate the hero btw, or at least strongly dislike him until he grovelled well enough given what we knew of him from the heroines POV. But toward the end, I adored him. He was actually more of a vulnerable character than the heroine. He was sweet and gorgeous, and so loving. But he wanted so much more for the heroine than what he thought he could offer. But he wants to be so much more for himself too.
I loved the premise of the story. A family doing one more road trip in honour of their wife/mom who they had lost.
I loved Marley, Paul and Bernie. An awesome family. Then Porter - Paul's best friend who had spent more time with their family than his own. More of an honorary son than sons best friend.
I adored this story. Yes it is hilarious, but it is also emotional, and poignant and has a depth to it that was unexpected.
However, not quite 5 stars, as toward the end, in all honesty Paul and his antics were getting a bit tiresome and I wished he would just calm down a touch an stop being an OTT man child princess. It was funny to start but it got too much after a book full of it. So knocking half a star off for that.
But I really need to get more by this author.
