LET'S GIVE 'EM SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT . . .
If gossip is the lifeblood of a small town, then Lizzy Logan has been its beating heart. After being dumped by her fiancé for another woman, she could have decided to crawl under a rock. But no, she'd rather really set tongues wagging by "moving on" with one of the hottest cowboys in Texas, who happens to live next door at the Lucky Penny Ranch. Those busybodies don't have to know it's actually all pretend. And just because Lizzy has no aim to tame her wild, blue-eyed neighbor doesn't mean she can't enjoy the ride of her life.

Toby Dawson never was and never will be the settling-down type. But what harm could there be in agreeing to be Lizzy's pretend boyfriend? They'll put on a show for a few weeks and be done. Yet the more he gets to know Lizzy-really know her-the harder it is for him to keep his hands off of her in private. Soon this rough-and-ready cowboy is hoping to heal Lizzy's bruised heart and turn their fake affair into a true romance . . .

Hi! I'm twenty five years old and movie star gorgeous. The camera added thirty plus years and a few wrinkles. Can't trust those cameras or mirrors either. Along with bathroom scales they are notorious liars! Honestly, I am the mother of three fantastic grown children who've made me laugh and given me more story ideas than I could ever write. My husband, Charles, is my strongest supporter and my best friend. He's even willing to eat fast food and help with the laundry while I finish one more chapter! Life is good and I am blessed!

Reading has been a passion since I was five years old and figured out those were words on book pages. As soon as my chubby little fingers found they could put words on a Big Chief tablet with a fat pencil, I was on my way. Writing joined reading in my list of passions. I will read anything from the back of the Cheerio's box to Faulkner and love every bit of it. In addition to reading I enjoy cooking, my family and the ocean. I love the Florida beaches. Listening to the ocean waves puts my writing brain into high gear.

I love writing romance because it's about emotions and relationships. Human nature hasn't changed a bit since Eve coveted the fruit in the Garden of Eden. Settings change. Plots change. Names change. Times change. But love is love and men and women have been falling in and out of it forever. Romance is about emotions: love, hate, anger, laughter... all of it. If I can make you laugh until your sides ache or grab a tissue then I've touched your emotions and accomplished what every writer sets out to do.

I got serious about writing when my third child was born and had her days and nights mixed up. I had to stay up all night anyway and it was very quiet so I invested in a spiral back notebook and sharpened a few pencils. The story that emerged has never sold but it's brought in enough rejection slips to put the Redwood Forest on the endangered list. In 1997 Kensington bought two books for their Precious Gems line. Two years and six books later the line died with only four of those books seeing publication. But by then Avalon had bought a book and another, and another. Ten years later the list has grown to thirty nine. Last year Sourcebooks bought the Lucky Series which is in the bookstores now. They've also bought The Honky Tonk Series which will debut with I LOVE THIS BAR in June and will be followed by HELL, YEAH, MY GIVE A DAMN'S BUSTED, and HONKY TONK CHRISTMAS.

Folks ask me where I get my ideas. Three kids, fifteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren. Note: I was a very young grandmother! Life is a zoo around here when they all come home. In one Sunday afternoon there's enough ideas to keep me writing for years and years. Seriously, ideas pop up at the craziest times. When one sinks its roots into my mind, I have no choice but to write the story. And while I'm writing the characters peek over my shoulder and make sure I'm telling it right and not exaggerating too much. Pesky little devils, they are!

I have a wonderful agent, Erin Niumata, who continues to work magic and sell my work. I'm very lucky to have her and my editors who continue to believe in me.

Happy reading!

Back in December when I got Wild Cowboy Ways the 1st book in this series, I really enjoyed it. I got to know Toby and Lizzy in book 1 and I really loved Lizzy's character. She intrigued me, so when Hot Cowboy Nights showed up in Netgalley I was so excited to get to see Lizzy's story play out. I loved this book!

"Oh, hush! You've already said you aren't the settling type. You can't have wings and roots both, cowboy."-Lizzy

 photo nkjtrsdsafdfhj_zpsxeess0sk.jpg

I was a little worried about how I would feel about Toby. In book 1 he was such a man whore that I worried he would push Lizzy away, hurt her, and in turn make me dislike him. But he didn't. I loved Toby! He was sweet, sexy, and really good to Lizzy. I love that even though he was confused, and scared at his strong feelings for Lizzy he never pushed her away. He dated her and he put a lot of thought into wooing her. He let himself be vulnerable and honest and it was super sexy! I thought it was so romantic how he took his time to get to really know her and her dreams.

"Will you go on a date with me Friday night? A real date, not a pretend one? I'll probably be so clumsy that you won't go out with me a second time, but please say yes."-Toby

Lizzy was great for me. She was the main reason I read this book and she didn't let me down. She turned into a great character. I love her growth from book 1 to the end of this book. Lizzy was herself, open, honest and said what she thought. She didn't play games and I loved that. I also loved that Lizzy didn't push Toby or try to make him something he wasn't. She gave him understanding and accepted his past. She saw the awesome that was underneath the sexy player ways. I loved the sassiness Lizzy got in this book. She decided to be herself and didn't let anyone put her or her family down!

"Must be wicked, sexy thoughts about what I'd do with Toby Dawson if I could just peel those jeans off his body and jump his bones, then."-Lizzy

"I couldn't even see that woman because I have blinders on when you are around, and every single thought in my head is about you."-Toby

Lizzy and Toby were an amazingly adorable couple. They were funny, sweet, and supportive. They were real, down to earth, and they had their human moments. They had bad moods, got grumpy and then said sorry. They were honest and didn't play drama games. I felt like I got to be part of their relationship. I was on the journey with them while they got to really know each other and fall in love. There were some really sweet moments and some very funny ones as well. There is this skunk scene that cracked me up. I love when a book gives that to me, that lighthearted laughter. I really enjoyed getting to catch up with Allie, and Blake again. I also really Enjoyed getting to know little sister Fiona. At the end of this book there is a little sneak peek into Merry Cowboy Christmas which I believe is Fiona's book. From what I read in that little teaser I am really excited to read it when it comes out in September 2016. I really loved this book. It was a great easy going, feel good read that made me laugh and smile. Can't wait for the next one!

"I stabbed him," Lizzy said bluntly. "That's how he got that scar." "Why? I'm sorry. That's personal. I shouldn't ask that." She blushed. "It's okay." Lizzy laid a hand on the woman's arm. "I was mad at a woman for flirting with him and he tried to take the knife away from me. It was an accident." "I'll be right back with your drinks and appetizer." She turned so fast that she ran into a bus boy with a tray of dirty glasses and he had to do some fancy footwork to keep it all from hitting the floor. "Lying on Sunday?" Toby chuckled. "The preacher will make you deliver the benediction next week as penance."-Lizzy, A waitress and Toby

Oh, man, I just loved this story! I wanted to lock myself away and just read! As it was, I started and finished Hot Cowboy Nights in one day.

Lizzy Logan and Toby Dawson shared three weeks of lusty hot nights, sex only, and very much on the-down-low. It started out as a rebound fling, and with a player like Toby, Lizzy knows it won’t amount to anything. Lizzy knows she wants more than a booty call, she wants marriage and kids, and she doesn’t want to waste time with someone who won’t settle down, so Lizzy breaks off the affair.

Toby hasn’t ever had a relationship, just one-night stands and gets hives thinking of commitment, but the thought of Lizzy with someone else brings twinges of pain. Two things happen that make their parting unattractive: Sharlene, a very determined Dry Creek single woman, sets her sights on Toby, and Mitch, Lizzy’s ex is set to come back to town with his new woman. So they decide to embark on a fake dating relationship to keep Sharlene at bay and let Mitch know Lizzy has moved on with her life.

I just loved this romance so hard! Toby and Lizzy kind of did things backwards. They had a physical relationship first, ended it, and then started “dating” so it was a gradual, slow burn. Toby never pictured craving a long-term relationship but the appeal slowly creeps up on him with each and every minute he spends with Lizzy. They got to know each other deep down and gradually fell harder and harder into love. I admired Lizzy for keeping a level head and for not compromising on her dreams. She got on my last nerve in the first book, Wild Cowboy Ways, when she was set to marry that preacher, Mitch. Lizzy was so self-righteous but I found out she had completely changed her true nature to conform to Mitch’s wishes, so when he leaves her it’s a complete relief! I was thrilled to see her loosen up and be herself, even if it did take a painful breakup to wake her up.

Got to say that this might be my favorite Carolyn Brown to date! As usual with Ms. Brown’s books, there’s plenty of humor and sass in Hot Cowboy Nights! I laughed more than a few times at the absurd and prissy church group that felt the need to monitor and condemn Lizzy’s romance. She gave as good as she got though, which was hilarious and part of Lizzy reclaiming her true self. She also had support of her sister, Allie, and her mother, Katy. I relish seeing the strong bonds of family/female friendship!

I love me a sexy-cowboy-romance and Toby Dawson burned up the pages, whether in his sweaty shirts and cowboy hat after working on the ranch all day or all dressed up in a button down and shined boots to take his lady dancing at the local honky tonk! Ms. Brown definitely knows how to write smoking hot chemistry and drool-worthy cowboys! Can’t wait for Fiona and Jeb’s story next, in Merry Cowboy Christmas.

3.5 Fighting Small Minds Stars
* * *1/2

There is a charm to the idea of small towns... places free from big city stress... A place where everyone's supportive and there if you are in need...and ready to lend a hand during the good times and bad...Pretty appealing, huh...

Well, that may not always be the case in a small town in Texas which is having trouble keeping businesses and population. It is not having growing pains... more like shrinking ones...
And the long lineage of some of the families are causing attitudes and judgements turn down right nasty.

This is a series and in this second installment we have the story of Lizzy Logan and Toby Dawson; two people who should not work... but actually do... really, really well.

In a snapshot, the backstory is Lucy was supposed to be the next "preacher's wife". She had worked to take her "square peg of true personality" and shove it into the round hole of what the preacher wanted... obedient, prissy proper and always walking 3 steps behind...oh, and don't get her started on the endless games of Monopoly and no desserts...Lucy thought this was what she wanted... but in reality, she was never supposed to be a prude, judgemental, obsessively cleaning woman...

But she tried...did everything Micky wanted and then on the day of her sister's wedding...on Valentine's Day, no less....The coward calls and tells her the wedding is off; he is going to Mexico with another and it is "God's will"...

Well, Lucy heartbroken and lost ...is made to feel safe in the arms of Toby Dawson at the sister's wedding. He is the brother of her sister's new husband. A cowboy who had a reputation of being a player... had just come back to this town to work the ranch the brothers bought. Both brothers know ranching and are determined to make a go of it... even though the land has a very unlucky past... no one has been able to make a life on it, too harsh.

We catch up with these two characters... they have been having a fling... on the down low... like real low where No One knows they have been hooking up. It has been the BEST SEX EVER for each... and hard to stop...but both have come to the decision to call it quits...

For she is Nothing like the bottle blondes he hits and quits...
And he is nothing like a fella who will want a strong woman to love, plant roots. marry and have kids...
So it is best they part...while no one knows they ever did the deed... numerous, smokin' hot times....

So back to this town and its shrinking population...The towns folk have decided a festival on July 4th would be a way to get those who have left families to come back for a celebration... and maybe look at moving home...Maybe others from around the area would like to partake in the fun, too.
This is great except Lucy's ex will be coming back from Mexico with his woman... flaunting her and his "holiness" in her face...And it seems, a hook up Toby had in a very weak moment, has set her cap on him... telling all who will listen, he is going to marry her and be her ever after...

Both of them look at each other and decide to help with each problem... their families are for it... They will pretend Toby and Lucy are an item- boyfriend /girlfriend... hits two birds one stone- Mickey will see she is over him and this girl will see Toby isn't available. The families have NO IDEA Toby and Lucy actually know each other really, really well....and they don't let on.

What happens over the course of the book is these two learning who they really are internally and what they want for their future. Both at first keep acknowledging they are not each others type...but as the weeks and months go by... something becomes very clear...

Whether they want to admit it or not...they are more each others type then they are willing to admit.

This was a true Western, Texas read. Lots of phrases to remark on things... lots of sweet tea, sweet love and super judgemental town folk. If you like the feel of a story which is full of ranching, cowboys... and description of said cowboy parts, sweet caring and loving .... then this is a lovely read. It had true moments which were when all the best came out of each character causing reading awes....

I was familiar with Carolyn Brown's writing as I read Daisies in the Canyon https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. If you are looking to step away from city life... then this could be your read.

Fun book. Toby is the second partner in the Lucky Penny Ranch. He is determined to help his brother and cousin turn it into a successful cattle ranch. He met Lizzy when his brother Blake married her sister Allie (Wild Cowboy Ways). Lizzy had recently been dumped by her wannabe preacher fiancé and is still feeling the effects of the gossip surrounding it. There is an immediate spark between the two of them, and they begin a secret fling. For three weeks they get together whenever they can. But after three weeks, Lizzy realizes that she wants more from a man - she's ready to look for her forever man, and Toby isn't it. He's made no secret of the fact that he's not the settling down kind. But they remain friends.

Then Lizzy gets word that her ex-fiancé is coming back to town. She's over him, but the gossips are having a field day, making it look like she's still moping over him. And Toby is having problems with one of the women in town aggressively pursuing him. So they decide to have a pretend relationship with each other until after the Fourth of July.

I loved the relationship that grew between them. It started out a bit backwards, with the short affair that ended, then they dated, but it worked for them. The sparks are still there, but they do their best to ignore them. Instead, their pretend dating gives them a chance to actually get to know each other. Though Toby comes across at first as a real player, he's never mean about it. All the ladies he's with know the score and everyone ends up happy. I loved seeing the changes in Lizzy from the first book, where she tried to make herself over to fit Mitch's requirements. Now she's determined to be the woman she was meant to be, and honest to herself. It only takes a couple "fake" dates for them to realize that they truly like each other. Toby is rather confused by the discovery that being with Lizzy doesn't make him want to head for the hills, that he's actually thinking of long-term with her. There are several funny parts where he is mentally arguing with himself about what he sees happening to himself. Lizzy has the same problem. She knows Toby's reputation and doesn't want to get her heart broken by falling for him. But the more time she's with him, the more she wants it all.

It was sweet to see how Toby's romantic nature came out. He's a little bit vulnerable because Lizzy is the first he's wanted a real relationship with and he's afraid of screwing it up. His efforts to woo her are sweet and romantic and just right for the woman she is. He also has a pretty good protective streak, and is there to back her up when she needs it. I loved Lizzy's side of the story. She is sassy, always ready with a comeback, loyal to her friends and family. Having Toby for a fake boyfriend will help her fight back against the attitudes of some of the townspeople. I loved seeing the two of them playing it up for the ones who are especially judgmental. It was even more fun when they decided to make their relationship real. Their dates would try to be romantic, but there was usually something, be it a skunk, a tornado, or an accident that would throw a complication into the works. Each time it brought them closer. Even their one argument was short-lived because one realized they were in the wrong and admitted it, and the other didn't hold a grudge. As it got closer to time for the festival and Mitch's return to Dry Creek, Toby got really nervous that Lizzy might go back to him. I absolutely loved the meeting between Lizzy and Mitch, and seeing her stand up to him. There was a nice little twist involving his new girl, too. I also loved the surprise that Lizzy had for Toby at the very end.

I loved the small town characters too. Once again Lucy is there to stand up for one of the Logan girls against the local self-righteous crowd. She also doesn't hold back from stirring the pot a little bit. Dora June and her crowd were a right pain in the neck and I loved seeing Lizzy and Toby pushing back against them. I loved the scene where it was her against the Logan girls (and mom Katy) and had to laugh at the consequences of her actions. There were also those who were against the Dawsons and their plans for the Lucky Penny. I loved seeing Blake and Toby's determination to prove them all wrong. It was great to see more of Blake and Allie and also Deke. He's as much of a player as Toby and I can't wait to see him fall.

♥Rachel♥ from Waves of Fiction and The Reader's Den is the heart of my heart when it comes to book reviews so when I saw her reviewing several books from this author in the sub-genre of "cowboy romance," I knew I had to try one! And this one didn't disappoint! I am calling these mini reviews the battle of the romance tropes -- this one involves the fake boyfriend trope and it was pulled off to perfection here! First, Lizzy was awesome -- I really liked her and loved her lack of pretension. Second, the setting of the small town of Dry Creek, Texas was great -- it's a ranching town and I enjoyed the whole cast of characters. Third, Toby was just such a hot cowboy but also so genuine in his affection once he realized it. The really fun part of this book was that Lizzy and Toby had a thing before the fake romance and their chemistry was off the charts so it didn't take long for this fake romance to turn real! I just purchased the first in this series about Lizzy's sister and I can't wait for the third book later this year which will be set during Christmases. For more cowboy romance, I also really love C.J. Carmichael! Do you have any favorites in this sub-genre?

"You aren't even my type, but I'd be lying if I said it hasn't been fun."

"And you damn sure aren't mine," he said.

"What is your type?" she asked.

"No strings. Likes to party, drink beer, dance in old honky-tonks, and after my famous breakfast-after-sex the next morning, she goes on her way."

Lizzy isn't like those sissy women who pick at their food or only order salads, girl appreciates her food, “no, looks like they’ve got a special on tacos. Now I don’t know what I want. I’ve been craving a big juicy bacon cheeseburger, but those tacos sure smell good,” she said." Toby is a good man, unconventional when it comes to cheering up his woman, “after that kiss,” he said when he drew back, “this is about as unromantic as anything can be. But would you like to go with me to do chores and then we could fire up the grill and make some burgers?” I really love small town books, everyone is in everyone's business and everyone knows everyone I really like it. I enjoyed this book Toby was a great man.

This sounded so cute. I love fake dating plots. I've read a few this year, but they aren't in adult romance too often.

The synopsis didn't lead readers to believe the MC's had been having sex for three weeks sometime after her sister's wedding. I thought this would lead up to that, so I didn't like that their affair started off-page, then they'd go to fake dating and back to sex again. It made no sense.
To further things, Toby announces in front of everyone that they should fake date while her ex-fiance comes to town with his new fiance and cause Lizzy gave Toby's number to a woman in town, & he wants her off his back. So their family will know its fake, taking the fun out of fake dating completely.
Although it was different to have the guy fake dating to get a girl off his back.

It had the outdated, old-fashioned thinking of a woman being a 'brazen hussy' for having sex. What is this, a historical novel?

I like small towns when they're done right, but this town was way too meddlesome and nosy. I would not wanna live there.
If Dora June and her gang didn't like Lizzy dating Toby then why did they keep coming into her store?! Just ridiculous. Stay away from her then if you don't like who's she dating. And her and Allie are grown women, they can decide who they date. It's absurd.
I rolled my eyes any time Dora June's name was mentioned. Seemed like she came to the store every day to say something to Lizzy. I just don't believe people really act like this.
And apparently this small town did not have any hospitality, because they treated Blake and Toby very poorly, when they're trying to run a ranch.
Lizzy said only five people in the town opposed Toby, Blake & their cousin buying the ranch. And that the rest loved Toby and Blake, but I didn't know where those people were. It felt like everyone disliked them.

The editor was sleeping on the job or something, because the characters were written with different names on three separate occasions.
'"I want a banana split with whipped cream, nuts, and a cherry on the top of each dip," she said.
"And two spoons." Mitch reached for his wallet.'
Mitch is her ex-fiance who wasn't even in that scene. That's supposed to say Toby.

'"I've never seen mesquite look like that," Lizzy said as Deke drove them all back to town.'
But then the rest of the scene was just Lizzy and Toby in the truck together, with no Deke.

'Fiona handed over the ball of fur and Allie turned it over. "A girl. Poor little thing will have to contend with three mean old brothers. Are you naming her Fiona?"' It was Lizzy and Allie. Fiona wasn't even in town.

Lizzy and Toby are talking of naming his donkeys, & she says she has four kittens without names, & Toby said he'll help her name them if she helps him name the donkeys, but she did name them with Allie. Then a couple pages later she says she named them. What's up with that?

There were some instances I had no idea what the characters were talking about. I couldn't follow their train of thought.

Toby was too much of a manwhore for me. Lizzy had only had three boyfriends total, yet Toby has a continuous line of women in his life.
'It has been the first date he could remember actually relaxing and enjoying himself instead of worrying about what lines it would take to get a woman into bed. Not that he'd ever had to work too hard at that.'

He gets a text from other women while they're together. One time he smiled broadly at whatever one wrote while Lizzy is standing there.
'"How many women have been on that blanket in your toolbox?"
"None," he answered quickly. "Not a single one because it's a brand-new one, but we will definitely not talk about the one that it replaced."

'"Good mornin'," Toby said. "Ready for my morning-after breakfast?"
"Allie told me about that little send-off that you do for the women you pick up. Is that to appease your conscience? Give them something since they gave you something?" She asked.
"Share something with them because we shared something is the way I like to think of it."'

Some woman sends him a picture of them in a nightgown in bed.
'"Holy hell, Toby, who is that?" Blake asked.
"One of those lovely ladies that I've made breakfast for in the past." Toby smiled.
"Miss those days?"
"Not when I'm this tired."'

I was so irritated at Deke and those two twins at the nursing home dressed like strippers when Lizzy went to see her grandma, & one kissed Toby as if Lizzy wasn't even there, & referenced a wild weekend they all had.
'"Didn't you hear him? I am his girlfriend," Lizzy finally said.
"Who cares? You can come along, too, and we'll make it an orgy." Laney winked.'
Lizzy calls them "the booty bitches" and remembers those same girls came between Allie and Blake when she found them in his house. So idw read their book. Reusing material to create conflict in your book? Pretty pathetic, like you can't come up with anyone to do? Are the twins gonna be in the next book too?!
Toby, Blake and Deke are too wild for me. I mean, orgies?! WTH!
And btw, does a heroine's ex-boyfriend or a past fling ever kiss the heroine in a book? Does the hero ever see another man kiss the heroine? NO! So why do heroines always have to see another woman kiss the hero? What is this shit? Can anyone explain this to me?

'That scene was symbolic of Toby's life up to that time. The fancy donkey was like the bar bunnies who couldn't wait to go home with Toby, to jump through hoops to do what he wanted and do anything to please the hot cowboy. The plain donkey was Lizzy. She knew who he was, what he was, and worried that what he had been would never change. She was the one sitting on the ground fretting that he could never really stay with someone as plain as Lizzy Logan.'
Comparing her to a plain donkey was not right, or calling her plain.

I didn't know why he was attracted to her. She wasn't his type. He liked tall, leggy blondes with blue eyes. & she was short and curvy, with blonde hair, but dishwater blonde, which I guess doesn't count as blonde, and brown eyes.

"I liked the white panties better," he said.
"Oh? she asked.
"They are you. Those aren't." He pointed at the bikini underwear on the floor. "Don't be something you aren't."'
That was just embarrassing. She wore sexy underwear for him.

Not enough was given on the MC's background, when they first met, the wedding, how they came to have an affair. I kept waiting for it, and we're finally told it and it was over in a handful of sentences. Toby came in the store for bologna and 'one thing led to another and after she locked the store, they wound up on the cot in the back room. Since she had the key to her mother's store, it was the perfect spot for three weeks of the hottest sex in all of Dry Creek's history.'
You don't go from dancing at a wedding to buying bologna and then jumping into bed together.

Lizzy and Toby played ten questions, actually only five, saying they'd ask the other five at another date, but then never did, but they asked each other questions that a teenager would.
What's your fav color? Fav song? Fav food? I wanted more meaningful questions to get to know them better. Also, in the beginning, he kept asking her what her dream home would be like or what she wanted for the future. It was a bit odd to keep bringing it up and also repetitive how she kept saying she was gonna be a preacher's wife.

The language was a little too country for me. Like historical western sounding. It also made the MC's sound much older, when Toby was only 27 (my age!!) and I don't know how old Lizzy was cause it never said. People would say Miz instead of Miss or Mrs. Too country for me.

The heroine was just like the one in A Cowboy Christmas Miracle. And no way does Lizzy go from being submissive while trying to be Mitch's preacher's wife to being outspoken and blunt.

Everyone was always asking everyone else what they were thinking. They couldn't have a private thought to themselves.

The name Shooter is thrown out,& we don't find out til later it's Blake's dog. I thought it was a man!
There was a lot of emphasis on songs in here, that always reminded them of themselves or each other. It was a bit much. We get it, they like country music. Let's move on.

For a book called Hot Cowboy Nights, the hot nights happened before the book started, & then took 254 pages to start. That was way too long. And the sex scenes weren't even that hot. To be calling your book hot cowboy nights, I expected more.

The writing was a tad flowery at times, with the ridiculousness of literally seeing stars every time they kissed. 'Spars flashed around the room, bouncing off the walls and landing on the floor, reminding her of Fourth of July fireworks.'

This was just like A Cowboy Christmas Miracle in that the heroine wanted to buy a ranch. I was like come on! Are all Brown's books the same? Cause I do not wanna read the same plots over and over. Especially when this heroine wasn't a rancher, she ran a store, so I didn't expect her to want a ranch. But I was glad she bought land that Toby and Blake wanted.

Toby wanted to get serious too suddenly for me, & then Lizzy was the scared one, even though she wants a serious relationship and kids. That didn't add up. I looked forward to Toby

The big awaited for festival happens and Mitch and his fiance make an appearance for two seconds in the back room of the restaurant. Tony sees them talking and just leaves. Lizzy did not need to flirt with Mitch to get him to stay. The whole ting was stupid. Not the big scene I was hoping for.
Also her and Toby didn't even attend the festival together.
I didn't care for the side story with Myra, that she was miserable and didn't want Mitch and I was so mad when Myra, Mitch's fiance, calls and ruins their engagement. Myra wants Lizzy to come to the hospital. She goes, says a handful of words, then leaves. So...pretty pointless.

They got married way too quickly, which I hate in books. They had only been on a handful of dates. You do not jump to marriage like that.
But I liked Toby's marriage vow: "I vow to honor, respect, be true to you,and love you, not until my dying day but way past that. And if you die before I do, just sit down on the nearest hay bale and wait. I'll be along real quick because my heart would break without you in my life."

I can't believe Fiona's book is with Toby's cousin Jud. Too unrealistic and corny that three sisters get with two brothers and their cousin.

I had such high hopes for this. I couldn't wait to read it, it sounded so cute, and ended up being nowhere near as cute as the synopsis made it sound. It actually wasn't even that good. The town was way too nosy & annoying, & I found this plot too similar to another book. Not totally interested in reading the others in this series, either.
Also, the two books I've read by this author have a heavy dose of religion in the books, which I don't really care for. Like backwards, small-town thinking. Not sure if she's inspired by her hometown or what...The pious women in town are just too much for me. And also, the manwhore heroes aren't jiving with going to church, so that bothers me as well. Like they're those people who go to church on Sunday yet don't attempt to live like a Christian any other day of the week.

On a side note, someone apparently used this book as a fly swatter because there were two dead gnats in it that they didn't bother to clean up, and two pages were stuck together. Gross.

Anyway, I hope if I read more from this author it'll be as enjoyable as A Cowboy Christmas Miracle, cause this one didn't do it for me.

Love in a small town…

Cowboys, gossip and family. Just a few things that make and break small towns, and Dry Creek is no exception. If you’ve read Allie and Blake’s story then the Lucky Penny ranch, with its share of good and bad luck, will have you eager to dive into Toby Dawson and Lizzy Logan’s story. I wondered what a womanizing man and a buttoned-up woman could have in common… I was about to find out!

Lizzy was stood up by her fiancé and there’s nothing like a small town to make that humiliation even worse. Instead of curling up in a ball and wallowing, Lizzy instead reinvents herself into the woman she always was under that meek, subservient façade. She was made of sterner stuff and that attitude shined as she stood up to crotchety neighbors and gossips alike. I was surprised, and happy, to find her character was actually warm and funny—something I hadn’t felt from her at all before now.

Toby, on the other hand, was as I expected (thankfully). He was a cowboy through and through, with a strong work ethic and a simple outlook on life. Yes, he’s a man-whore but he’s unapologetically so. And that certainly doesn’t make him bad—well, only in the best sense, of course. I loved his inner monologue as, piece by piece, it revealed his own transformation and the struggle he had with it…

While I’m not entirely convinced on why these two were forced together in such a way I can’t argue with the results. These two unlikely lovers had good chemistry and braved the perils of an old-fashioned courtship with humor, a requisite amount of shock and a good dose of small-town charm. I can’t wait for Fiona’s story up next! ~ Diane, 4 stars

I can't resist the lure of a cowboy, and a book called Hot Cowboy Nights is bound to draw me in like a moth to a flame. And I definitely couldn't resist after realizing that this is the second book in the Lucky Penny Ranch series…

I recall enjoying book one, Wild Cowboy Ways, for the most part, and while a few of the plot elements have slipped from my memory in the months since I read it, I was quite happy to be back with the Logan sisters and the Dawson brothers. Hot Cowboy Nights was a lazy, easy, enjoyable read, and while not perfect, a book that will keep you interested to the end.

My few misgivings from the first book stemmed, in part, from the central female character here in book two—Lizzy Logan. I honestly wasn't sure I'd enjoy her, given her prissy, submissive and prim attitude in Wild Cowboy Ways, and yet, I loved her here. She was brighter, more in control of herself, stronger and had some wonderful sass, which brought a smile to my face. She was feisty, and, I'm happy to say, held her own against small-town meddling and fussing. And I loved seeing her with Allie. It was rewarding, after their somewhat antagonistic relationship in the first book, to see these two act as sisters—confiding in one another, sharing lows and high.

Like, say, the high of falling in love... I had anticipated that we might get a Lizzie/Toby pairing after the ending to Allie and Blake’s book, and I can happily say that, for the most part, they worked. Though their chemistry is apparent, I did, on occasion, have some doubts about how quickly they seemed to go from fake to real. Toby was billed as a player—unabashed, unchanging and untamable—which is why his turnaround, although swoony in its own way, felt a little off for me. I just couldn't help but wish there was a touch more tension, a bit more push and pull, which would have made the sweet ending that much sweeter and more rewarding.

Having said that, any book with a sexy cowboy like Toby—who was incredibly likeable, and whose respect for Lizzy was just one of the many things that made him so damn attractive—is going to hold my attention. And it wasn't just the delicious cowboy. Or the feisty feed-store owner, Lizzy. Deke was back, and he was a big favorite of mine from the first book. There was some intriguing drama courtesy of small-town prejudices, which I hope to see more of in the next book. And there were some interesting developments when it comes to the third Logan sister, Fiona.

All in all, I'm left pretty happy and definitely ready to read more about the town of Dry Creek, the ladies of Audrey’s Place and yummy Cowboys over at the Lucky Penny. I can't resist the lure of a cowboy, after all… ~ Beth, 4 stars

She was dumped practically at the altar and now the low life slime who did it is returning to parade his new wife around. So what's a sassy rancher gal to do? She makes everyone believe the hottest cowboy in the county has a thing for her and he has his own reasons for playing along with the ruse.

This is the second installment in the Lucky Penny Ranch series. It follows the events of the first book and shifts the attention from one Dawson brother and one Logan sister to another pair. Will lightning strike twice?

The story opens with Lizzy Logan and Toby Dawson both realizing that their secret three week tryst needs to come to an end. Lizzy wants a loving husband, home, and family and those things give the free-wheeling Toby a rash. But just when they decide to call it quits, they learn that Lizzy's former fiance plans to return for the big town festival parading his new wife. Lizzy's friends decide that she needs to prove that she has moved on, too. Not that Lizzy really hasn't because being with Toby completely burned Mitch and his controlling ways out of her system. Never again will she let a guy lead her around by the nose and try to change her. But Lizzy does agree that it would feel good to have a handsome guy of her own to show Mitch up. No one is more surprised than Toby when he volunteers for the job of fake boyfriend.

Toby likes Lizzy and considers her a friend. She isn't his type, but he was having fun with her even if he was a bit relieved when she called off their secret meet-ups. Toby doesn't want to be tied-down. So whatever possessed him to pretend to be boyfriend material? Well, he tells people it's to keep the marriage-minded women of Dry Creek off his back and to look like a stable guy, but deep down he knows it's because he didn't want to see any other guy going around with Lizzy. Everything about the woman appeals to him except their different views on permanent relationships. But somewhere between dates to the ice cream joint, a wreck, a tornado, a skunk, a picnic, and a town full of gossips, Toby slowly starts to change his mind.

Another fun, flirty, gently-paced romance set in a small town ranching community of West Texas. I just love cozying up to one of these stories and grinning through all the sassy dialogue and antics of Carolyn Brown's quirky characters. The story cruises along at an even pace with not a ton of excitement and hype yet somehow it captivates as two characters get past their issues, get over the barriers, and find love. There are some slow spots, but nothing that made me bored. This pair was sweet together and not for a minute did I doubt that Lizzy would convince Toby to give up his wild ways.

I'm not sure who is next with Jud coming to town and Fiona needing to return to her roots along with the unattached Deke. Any of them would be great.

All in all, another sizzling helping of summer cowboy romance that I can easily recommend to those who love down-home country charm, sassy dialogue, and a hot pair of lovers in a contemporary western romance.

My thanks to Forever- Grand Central for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

ARC REVIEW

This is book two of the Lucky Penny Ranch series. I have read one other Carolyn Brown book and it was freakin' adorable. Unfortunately it wasn't the first book of this series and I kinda wish I had. Toby's reputation as a man whore is all in the first book, it is talked about, mentioned, and rubbed in his face in this book but I didn't read about it first hand so in this book I just see a very sweet, romantic, but commitment-phobic cowboy. Also I don't see Lizzy as anything but wild child at heart standing up for herself instead of the proper, shy, and pious woman they say she was in the first book. It's all the character development without any of the previous personality traits. The religious tones of the book got annoying but that is probably because all the characters spouting off the righteous hypocrisy are the protagonist of the story. ( I live in a Texas small town I know how important church is for everyone, it really can get that bad in certain cities) I use that term, protagonist, loosely because there is no real enemy here it's just a bunch of annoying busybodies. However the romance between Lizzy and Toby is sweet and that is what really had me enjoying the book. The stuff they go through really cements their steadfast relationship.

It wasn't insta-love between Lizzy and Toby. This book picks up a couple months after the first book and the entire time between books Lizzy and Toby have been having an affair, surprisingly they have managed to keep it a secret. Things have been fine and dandy between them so far just keeping things physical. That is until Lizzy's sister announces she is pregnant and suddenly Lizzy wants more. She knows Toby isn't the settle down type, he is not what she needs, so as a mutual agreement they end their affair. That's just the beginning. Word gets back to Lizzy that her former fiance who dumped her on Valentine's Day and at her sister's wedding is coming back into town with his new wife, the woman he dumped her for. Toby is trying to avoid the clutches of another woman, so it is agreed that Toby and Lizzy will fake a relationship until after her ex leaves and when the other woman loses interest in Toby.

The more time Toby and Lizzy spend together in their fake relationship the more they come to actually like each other. It doesn't take Toby long to realize this and now to convince Lizzy to really start dating. Toby is absolutely a romantic the things he does not just in public for show but especially just for Lizzy. It's inevitable Toby and Lizzy fall in love but Toby is worried that with Lizzy's ex coming back she may have second thought and want to go back to him. Lizzy is enjoying the new Lizzy she is finally finding herself and discovering what she wants and who she wants to be and not what everyone else says she needs to be.

Overall, even thought the beginning of the book feels like only part of the story you soon forget about it and just enjoy the humor and romance of Lizzy and Toby's story.

I love small town romance stories while everyone is close and neighbors help neighbors there are still many people who gossip too much and the stress that there town won't survive. This is the first book I have read from Brown in this new series and from the very beginning I was hooked!

In this story we meet Lizzy and Toby who are the complete opposite of what each other goes for but this couple ended up working really well together.

Lizzy was recently dumped by her preacher on her sisters wedding day for another woman. After that Lizzy decided she wasn't going to be that girl who did everything her ex wanted and started to become the woman she wanted to be. At her sisters wedding she ended up in the arms of her sisters husbands sexy brother Toby. These two quickly start sleeping together but when Lizzy's sister announces she is having a girl Lizzy knows that sleeping with Toby will have to come to end.

Toby has a reputation of being a player and is fairly new to this town and just wants to work on the ranch with his brother. Since they just bought this land he is helping give it a go to make their dreams come true. No knows that he and Lizzy have been secretly hooking up but when she needs a fake boyfriend to prove to her ex and everyone else she is over him he is willing to stand in.
Before you know it Toby is ready to make their relationship very real but he only hopes Lizzy feels the same.

I really liked these characters. I thought they were very, likable and had the right amount of sass. I also really liked how close Lizzy was to her family. They stood together and no matter what had each other's backs. Some of towns people who were judge mental and annoying I could have done without but in a way they helped shape the story to be what it was.

As for the plot there is something about the whole fake relationship turning into real relationships that captures my interest every time. I thought Brown did a excellent job in having these two characters change in so many ways and yet still have them come together so perfectly in the end.

After reading this I'm definitely looking forward to the next book!

Brown's books are so sweet! And that is why I adore them. The heroines are so sassy, and the heroes are so rrrrrr!

Lizzy has been doing the nasty with her neighbor Toby, but hey they can't be doing it forever. It was fun while it lasted.

Like it ever is that easy. See she needs a fake bf to show peeps she is moving on. Oh girl, that is more trouble than solution! In comes Toby.

But dang! Oh this town, it had me so mad. Like a raccoon caught with it's tail in cactus (I always try this, but I never get them right, Brown gets them right.!) See there are these horrid gossiping church ladies who are all "That man is bad business, you be a sinner now Lizzy. Shame on you." Lizzy stands her ground, but oh those church ladies, I would have slapped them. She is a bigger person than I am. Especially since one's son is no good either, do not thrown stones in a glass house lady! So that is the drama, gossiping old biddies.

And then of course Toby and Lizzy will fall in love when they realise their fake relationship could be more. It is sweet and wonderful.

I look forward to Toby's cousin's book now.

Sweet!

Nope. DNR 20%. I remember why I didn't like the first one... I find these character super annoying, unlikable, whiny, self-righteous, etc....

"There weren't many redeeming qualities about this town or the people living in it. Everyone seems to be unhappy in their lives and are determined to make everyone else miserable with them. Everyone cheats on their significant other then turn around and judge everyone else for doing the same thing. This town just needs to get out of this high school behavior. It didn't make for an enjoyable read for me." - quote from Wild Cowboy Ways

Romance > Contemporary

Eh, I just didn't feel spark with the characters because I found them supercilious, annoying, unlikable and whiny. Its also big turnoff for me when the heroine drinks and has hangovers. Its just not cute nor likeable action on anyone. I also didn't believe that after the way Toby was portrayed as big womanizer he suddenly gets hooked on Lizzy and wanting HEA with her. Their relationship seemed to depend more on lust than love. and this kind of relationship usually don't last long.

I really don't know how Carolyn Brown does it! I love this woman, her characters, her writing, the situations that these amazing characters find themselves in, the humor, the laughter, the family feeling and the down home goodness that makes you want to pack your bags and move right in. I have never been disappointed in any of the amazing books that I have read, she is one of my go to authors when I need a pick me up. This is the second book in the Lucky Penny Ranch series, but as with all of Carolyn Brown books, you can read it as a stand alone book with no problems. This is the story of Toby and Lizzy.

Lizzy Logan was once engaged to the town pecher, until he decided to run off, leaving her in the dust with nothing more than a note telling her that is was in love with someone else. At her sisters wedding, she and the newest bad boy on the Lucky Penny Ranch, and her sisters new brother in law, get into a hot and heavy 3 week roll in the sheets. Both realizing that this secret relationship cannot continue, they both decide to remain friends, but no more benefits. When the town decides to have a festival to bring back family and friends to their little home town, Lizzy is faced with the idea that she will have to face her ex again.

Toby Dawson thought that he was doing Lizzy a favor when he asked her to dance after being dumped by her fiance, but the hot roll in the sheets with his sexy neighbor was something that they both could enjoy for awhile. After calling it quits, Toby is being hunted by the single women in town. What is a hot cowboy to do? He and Lizzy realize that it would benefit them both to "pretend" to be a couple until after the festival. It would keep the women at bay and prove to the town and Lizzy's ex that she is well and truly over him.

But as Toby and Lizzy embark on the "fake" relationship, the nosey bitties in town, and even their friends and family begin to realize that what they have is more than pretend. Toby and Lizzy need to figure out how to turn then "pretend" relationship into something real, because their feelings for each other are anything but, and they know that there is nothing better than enjoying some Hot Cowboy Nights in each others arms.

What I loved about this story is that from the first page Toby and Lizzy had sparks and a chemistry so hot that it practically burned up the pages of this amazing story. How they were able to keep their relationship a secret when they were sneaking around was a wonder, because after only one "date" everyone in town knew they were together. Lizzy is such a sweet and caring person with a heart of gold, but under that sweetness lies a wildcat when she is with Toby. Of course Toby was everything that a HOT, SEXY cowboy should be, he was sweet, it was rough, he loved a good time, but he knew how to treat a lady and he knew that his feelings for Lizzy where anything but pretend.

I loved this book from page one and was loving it even more at the end. I cannot wait for the next Lucky Penny Ranch book, and I highly recommend Carolyn Brown as a GO-TO author for all things SEXY COWBOY.

A sweet and hot cowboy romance set in small-town Dry Creek, Texas!

Dating and getting to really know a woman is a different game. Kind of like the difference in Monopoly and Texas Hold 'Em."

Lizzy, who was slated to become a preacher's wife in most of WILD COWBOY WAYS, the first book in this series, returns with a new lease on life in HOT COWBOY NIGHTS by Carolyn Brown. Even though this is the second book in the author's Lucky Penny Ranch series, this tale can easily be enjoyed as a standalone if that is your preference.

The series is named after the Lucky Penny Ranch owned by three hot Dawsons - Blake, Toby, and their cousin, Jud. Just down the road is Audrey's Place, a former whorehouse; It's the home of the Logans: Allie, Lizzy and Fiona. Blake and Allie found their HEA in the last book. This is the story of cowboy/womanizer Toby Dawson and Lizzy Logan as the author takes us back to struggling Dry Creek, a small town in Texas.

On the morning of her sister's wedding, Lizzy's low-life fiancé dropped her for another woman via a phone call. As siblings to the bride and groom, Lizzy and Toby shared a dance at the wedding festivities, and it seems that they've been sharing much more than that since. Lizzy, however, wants her HEA and Toby still has a slew of wild oats to sow, so Lizzy breaks off their affair and walks away.

Then... Lizzy learns that her ex-fiance along with the woman he dumped her for are returning for the town's 4th of July festival to flaunt their relationship in her face AND Toby is having serious issues avoiding man-chaser Sharlene's unwelcome attentions colorfully described as "like a coyote going after a one-legged chicken." So, the two come up with the brilliant plan of having a fake romance to give Lizzy a date for the festival and to ward off Sharlene's advances on Toby. What could go wrong?

Lizzy's and Toby's romance was sweet and hot. They made for an adorable couple and came across as down-to-earth, genuine people. Their entertaining dialogue alternated between serious, sexy and humorous. I really enjoyed catching up with Allie and Blake from the first book, too. I wanted to smack some of the self-righteous folks in Dry Creek; they certainly deserved to be whacked! I'm holding out hope that those prudes get their comeuppance sometime in this series so we readers can enjoy their take-downs. I can't wait for Fiona's and Jud's story in MERRY COWBOY CHRISTMAS coming Sept 2016!

Lizzy and Toby are thrown together at there siblings wedding and if just so happens to be the day that Lizzy's receives a call from her ex breaking things off with her. After a quick few weeks affair Toby and Lizzy realize they are not meant for each other an they break things off and decide to be friends. Once word gets out that Lizzy's ex is coming back to town with his new "wife" Lizzy's brother-in law, sister and friend hatch a plan that put Toby and Lizzy back together in a "fake" relationship for the next 6 weeks till this is all over with. Toby wonders if he can make it the next 6 weeks without any sexual contact with a girl, and Lizzy wonders if this plan will just blow up in there face quicker then the gossip about it can spread. Will they join forces and stop the gossip mongers or will it all come crashing down when a storm comes barreling there way?
I really really enjoyed this book what a fun read. I loved the small town feel of the book with all the crazy gossip mongers. I loved how the book for the most part was a clean love story and it focused on the crazy going on around the main characters and not just the sexual aspect that could have played out. Even though Mitch wasn't huge in the book as far as his interaction I came to really dislike him quickly in the book the author did an amazing job with the storyline and his whole. The author did an amazing job with telling a fun story and keeping it really while adding drama and craziness to it all and keep it natural. If you are looking for a story that will make you laugh and make you feel like you are catching up with your friends then this is the story for you and you won't regret reading it.

Disclosure: I received this book free of charge from the publisher, but this review consists of my honest opinions, not influenced in any way by the author or publisher

Carolyn Brown has done it again! She has more hot Cowboys for us!

I loved it! The way the story comes across so real just makes me smile. I had a very hard time putting this book down because I needed to know what was next.

The small town of Dry Creek Texas in is just like all small towns, it lives for gossip. Lizzy Logan is the town’s most recent topic. Her fiancé leaves her on Valentine’s day over the phone for another woman. Now she is trying to move on and out of the town talk. The town women think they can give her advice for the future and she needs help to get them to leave her alone. The town is going to have a celebration weekend and Lizzy’s Ex is coming back to town for it. The women in town make sure she knows about her Ex. Lizzy wants to show everyone she is over her Ex and moving on. So one of her new neighbors Tony Dawson the brother of the man that married Lizzy’s sister comes up with the idea to be a Pretend Boyfriend for Lizzy. Just for a few weeks. Tony is not looking to settle down and wants to help her out as time with Lizzy can’t be that bad. The first time they go out they run into her Ex’s mother. Now they are all the town is talking about. The more time Tony spends with Lizzy the more he is changing his mind about settling down. Tony is worried that when Lizzy sees her Ex she will want that life back and leave him. The women around town don’t want Lizzy with such a bad boy and try to come between what they have. Do Lizzy and Tony have something that will last or is it just fun for a few weeks?

Toby and Lizzy's story is the second book in the Lucky Penny Ranch series. Following the first book in the series, Hot Cowboy Ways, this enjoyable story captures you from the first paragraph and takes you for a crazy ride through Lizzy's way of regaining her true self after being "dumped" by her former fiancé, Mitch. Toby comes along at a time when Lizzy really needed to become herself again, and not what another man, Mitch, thought she should be.

Ms Brown does a wonderful job of capturing Lizzy's personality between these pages...offset by Toby's hot cowboy ways, these two are a match no one expected. The author has created two characters that drawn you into their story and give you a "warm fuzzy" tap to your heart. All the cast of characters from the first book in the series are brought back, with nonstop laughs to be had at the expense of the older, prudent ladies of the town who don't approve of Lizzy's relationship (fake as it starts out to be) with Toby, one of the wild Dawson cowboy brothers.

Now with two of the three Logan sister having found their HEA, I looking forward to Fiona and Jud's story next up in the last book in the series....unless Ms Brown has something in store for Deke.

I was pulled right into this story. The story flowed well and I was kept interested. The story has laughs, crazy small town people, and sweet romance.

If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first
Wild Cowboy Ways (Lucky Penny Ranch, #1)

This is Lizzy and Toby’s story. Lizzy was dumped by her boyfriend and started an affair with Toby. Now she needs a fake boyfriend. Toby is going to help out Lizzy but does not want her to get any ideas as he is not ready to settle down. He still has wild oats to sow. Lizzy is getting the stink eye from a lot of the town’s folks as she is dating someone from the Lucky Penny Ranch. The town’s people believe that those cowboys are going to leave town when the Ranch does not produce as they want. Toby is determined to prove the town wrong. The more time Toby spends with Lizzy the more he wants her. She is in his head and has him thinking of long term. Is it time to cut her loose or with her ex coming back to town is it time to real her in forever?

I loved these characters and also the side characters. I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next story in this series.

Some authors all you have to do is read one of their books and you know you will like them all. This is the second book I have read by this author and I have to say I'm a fan. I really like the writing style and although like most romance novels you can predict the ending it was perfect. I like the fact the story is bigger than just the two main characters. This book is part of a series although it can be read as a standalone (because of the small town and background to the characters family I would highly recommend starting with book one).

Lizzy has just been dumped by her fiancé. She was going to be the obedient preaches wife and now her life is heading in the complete opposite direction. She has started casually seeing the hot unobtainable cowboy Toby Dawson. It is the perfect rebound. When she discovers her ex is heading back into town with his new choice of bride Toby is more than willing to play the fake boyfriend to show the town she is over her ex. The problem is he isn't the settling down type but could 5 weeks of fake dating change his mind?

Hot Cowboy Nights was a fun, entertaining romance. Lizzy Logan and Toby Dawson had amazing chemistry. What started out as a friends with benefits situation quickly turned into something much deeper even though they both tried to convince themselves otherwise.

Even though I loved the steamy scenes between Lizzy and Toby, what really made the book for me was how strong the Logan women were in dealing with the townspeople. I loved the way they stood up to the not-so-Christian church ladies and Truman. That was fantastic!

I have not read the first book in the series, Wild Cowboy Ways, but I do plan to read it because Allie was such an interesting character. I also can't wait to read Fiona's story and hope that we get stories for Deke and Myra. Mitch, the preacher ex, was such a jerk to Lizzy and Myra. I hope that Myra is able to get her happy ending.

I received this book as an ARC and the actual release date is forthcoming on May 31, 2016. There's not a single Carolyn Brown book I've read that I've not thoroughly enjoyed and even loved. Loved book 1 of the Lucky Penny Ranch series and this one did not disappoint! The chemistry between Toby and Lizzy was off the charts. I could feel the zaps and tingles as I read of their attraction. Toby is so hot, you could spontaneously combust in his presence. He oozes hotness and sex appeal but not in a creepy, cheesy way. Toby could melt the drawers off a nun and make her forget her vows of celibacy. Lizzy fell for him....hard....and it was so neat to see how she fought her attraction. Toby as well. Loved to see the crazy small-town antics and odd characters. I just loved how spunky Lizzy is and how supportive those who love her are. Really hoping there's book 3.....

Stories set in small towns are the best kind. There is a feeling of welcome that comes over me whenever I come across a story like Hot Cowboy Nights. The family atmosphere calls to me. The slow pace delivers a sense of security not found in larger areas. What I enjoy most is the mischief and gossip that goes on. Carolyn Brown brought every element to life in her latest novel. I received an ARC of Hot Cowboy Nights in exchange for an honest review. Lizzy and Toby set tongues wagging with the charades they pulled. It was easy to get wrapped up in this picturesque romance and lose track of time. An afternoon well spent for this romance lover.

Take one of the most romantic cowboy ever, a one night stand turned into a game of pretending to be in a relashionship who then turned into the real deal, throw in a tornado, a car wreck, a picnic, a mamma cat with her four kittens, a dog , a skunk, two donkeys and a lot of bawling cows, mix it with some Blake Shelton's, Luke Bryan's and Conway Twitty's songs, add some pesky church ladies and a ornery old man and then voilà ! You have hot cowboy nights!

This book was so-so for me. The title implied more than it delivered, unfortunately. There were very few nights, and the "hot" was rather cool. The characters were intriging, but some of the dialog was a bit stilted and formal compared to some of the other dialog.

It's not a bad book, a nice sweet little romance. A good way to kill time.

Lizzy had tried to sneak into the house and take a shower but her sister Allie and tugged Lizzy toward the table and asked her where she had been. The man Lizzy had slept with- Toby- was also at the table. Mitch- had broken up with Lizzy on the day of Allie’s and Blake’s wedding with a note. Then Lizzy’s ex fiance Mitch had left for Mexico with another women. Mitch was a preacher and he and this woman decided to go to Mexico and be missionaries and build a church there. They had only been broken up six months. Toby had met Lizzy in the winter and then seen her again at his brother Blake’s wedding and felt bad for what had happened to her and asked her to dance and they went from there. Blake was married to Allie and Toby was Blake’s brother but Lizzy and Toby managed to keep their fling a secret for three weeks but Lizzy decided it was time to cut it off. Toby was a player and Lizzy wanted to settle down and have a family. They decided to remain friends just no benefits any more. Toby felt he still had a lot of wild oats still to sow. Toby, Blake, and their cousin had pooled their money and bought the Lucky Penny Ranch and they were determined to make it a profitable ranch. Then Sharlene decided to set her sights on Toby and and Lizzy learned Mitch was coming back to town with his new women which the gossips who had made a lot out of Mitch leaving town were already spreading how Lizzy was moping around since the split. So Toby and Lizzy decided they would be a fake couple until after the festival. Than Lizzy and Toby decide to amp things up when said gossips were around. Slowly Toby changes his thinking as he spends more time with Lizzy.
I loved this book. I also loved how Lizzy didn’t give up on her dreams after what Mitch had done to her. I laughed at times while reading this book. I love the plot and pace of this story. I also loved how close Lizzy and her mom Kate and sister Allie were. I loved how Toby mentally argued with himself about Lizzy and his feelings. I also loved how Lizzy stood up to Mitch when he did come back to town. I also loved how Blake and Toby were determined to make the ranch profitable. I loved the characters of this stories and the ins and outs of this story and I highly recommend.
