Dog Gone Bookends

Happy Tuesday Thrifty Readers!
It’s Allison from Two Thirty~Five Designs, and I wanted to show you all a super easy (and cute) solution to help out with all of the kids books that you have lying around.

I recently updated my youngest daughters book shelves, clearing out the prereaders and chipboard books and moving in her chapter books that have been stacked on the floor.

I wanted a cute option for bookends like I have been seeing everywhere, but didn’t want to pay a fortune.

I ran across this pair of dogs at Target and thought they would be the perfect weight and size for bookends.

Materials:
One Piece of Lumber. Mine Measured 1″x2″x8′, it was left over from a previous project. Measure the object that will be placed on the lumber to make sure that it will fit.
Two Small Figureines
Spray Paint
Craft Paint
Paint Brush
Art Tape
Drill
4 Wood Screws
Clear E6000

Directions:
1. Cut lumber into 4 pieces, depending on the size of figurine. I cut two 7″ inch pieces (bottom) and two 6″ pieces (sides). Sand all to a smooth finish.
2. Begin your screws into the bottom piece, but not all the way through.
3. Run a thin strip of E6000 on the opposite side of the wood from the screws.
4. Press the bottom and side pieces together and finishing screwing the two pieces together.
5. Spray paint both bookends.
6. Using the art tape, tape off your stripes.
7. Using craft paint, fill in the stripes.
8. Let paint dry. Using the E6000, dab small amounts on the bottom of the figurine and set into place on the wood. Let dry.
