This story is about so much more than meets the eye. Erica Ridley did an exceptional job of writing a story about what a person perceives themselves to be. The Major's Faux Fiancee is a story that consists of central characters coming to terms with circumstances that neither can change. Major Blackpool comes home from war a change man both mentally and physically. Daphne is being forced into marriage even though she is not interested in becoming a wife. Ms. Ridley tackles serious problems that are faced everyday but manages to do so in such a delightfully entertaining way that the reader is mesmerized. Well done, Ms. Ridley well done. I received an ARC of The Major's Faux Fiancee for an honest review. The story speaks for itself.

Like the other books I've read by Erica Ridley, I just couldn't put it down! The "Dukes of War" series can all be read as stand-alone novels but when read in order, the characters flow seamlessly on to another!

THE MAJOR’S FAUX FIANCEE is more serious than I expected but so splendid, romantic and emotional; again Erica Ridley strikes gold. The Major’s return from the war has some really tragic elements, and the shadow of his dead twin brother permeates his whole existence, but there are plenty of amusing moments to lighten things up as Daphne and Bartholomew, childhood friends, pretend to be in love to save her from marriage to whomever her guardian chooses, or worse Bedlam! And what a fabulous cast of characters, so colourfully and precisely described by Ms. Ridley: Crabtree, Bartholomew’s butler and Fitz his valet, who admonishes the Major; Daphne’s guardian who is in fact a pirate, and one of my favourites: Sarah. The story is solid and original: I loved how the friends reconnect and how they face their own shortcomings. The writing is graceful, stunning in its simplicity and elegance; it is simply brilliant. THE MAJOR’S FAUX FIANCEE is my favourite book in this fabulous series so far, and this is saying a lot! And I am overjoyed that the next book will be Sarah’s. I could live in the world of The Dukes of War forever!

About the author

Erica Ridley is a USA Today and New York Times best-selling author of historical romance novels. Her most popular three series, The Dukes of War, Rogues to Riches, and The 12 Dukes of Christmas, feature roguish peers and dashing war heroes amid the splendor and madness of Regency England. When not reading or writing romances, Erica can be found riding camels in Africa, zip-lining through rainforests in Costa Rica, or getting hopelessly lost in the middle of Budapest.
