LINCOLN PARK — Rachel Canning, the Morris County teenager who sued her parents to force them to pay her bills, has returned to her parents' house in Lincoln Park, her parents' attorney announced today.
UPDATE:
More details about Rachel Canning's return home
Rachel, 18, "has returned home and reunited with her parents and siblings. Her return home is not contingent on any financial and/or other considerations," her parents' attorney Angelo Sarno, said in a statement.
A press conference to announce details of the development will take place at 1:30 p.m. in front of the law offices of Snyder & Sarno in Roseland.
In a case that has attracted international attention, Rachel was seeking a court order requiring the parents, Sean and Elizabeth Canning, to pay child support, her private school tuition at Morris Catholic High, college tuition and her legal fees.
She moved out of her parents’ house in October after they declined to pay her bills and she had been staying at the home of her best friend, the daughter of attorney and former Morris County freeholder John Inglesino, who had advanced her legal fees.
Her parents, Sean and Elizabeth Canning of Lincoln Park, say Rachel refused to break up with a boyfriend they regard as a bad influence and would not follow their house rules, such as being respectful and keeping a curfew. Rachel had been drinking alcohol on week nights, they said.
A judge last week refused to grant Rachel an emergency order that would have required the parents to make the payments.
