WORCESTER — At That's Entertainment in Worcester recently, a gift certificate was cashed in that was older than many of the employees and the current location of the store itself.
"When we say it never expires, we really mean it,"That's Entertainment Assistant Store Manager Sierra Wales said, who spoke with the man and his wife who brought in a gift certificate from 1989. "They were so nice. They have been customers for years and years and years."
That's Entertainment has been open for 34 years providing comics and pop-culture items to the city. The $10 gift certificate from 1989 had been sitting in a drawer for much of the time the store has been open, Wales said. The customer said that he had been meaning to bring it in for some time and finally remembered over the Fourth of July weekend.
"He just always forgot to bring it in with him, for 25 years," Wales said.
The first employee who saw the certificate did not know what to make of it, she said. The certificate not only pre-dates many of the employees, but also the store's current location. The certificate was issued before the store moved from its Chandler Street location 22 years ago.
"He handed this to us and some of the employees were like 'What do we do with this?'" Wales said.
Once the certificate was sorted out, the customer used it to buy a new graphic novel book.
"We have regulars who have been coming to the store since we opened up," she said. "It's really nice that we have such a good customer base. We appreciate the people who have been coming in so long. They are the reason we're still alive."
