Leading in Social Justice:  What’s a JAM and how do I start one?
By Angie Miller, JAM Facilitator

Justice Action Ministries (or JAMs) are how the Fellowship is living out our mission of “leading in social justice.” Currently there are three approved JAMs: Green Sanctuary, Essentials: Food and Shelter for All, and ESTHER Interfaith Collaboration. Applications have been submitted and future interest sessions may be held for UUnited for Women’s Justice and Mental Health & Overdose Prevention.
If you are interested in a social justice issue, the best way to get others to join you is to start a JAM! To do this, reach out to Doug, our Startup JAM Mentor at startupjam@fvuuf.org for his help. He’ll guide you through the process, which includes hosting some information sessions to see who else here at the Fellowship wants to join you in your justice work. Then, you’ll need to complete a JAM Application that will help you, and us, know what your focus is, and who is involved. JAMs can form at any time and do not require congregational vote to be approved! They can also be long term or short term, depending on the injustice being addressed. If interest and commitment for the JAM wanes, that’s ok, it can also dissolve at any time. We hope this process is organic, and our JAM Facilitators exist to support you in your work! Don’t hesitate to reach out to Doug if you have any questions. We hope more JAMs will emerge to help us create a better, more just community.

month!
December 2
Inherent by Rev. Christina Leone-Tracy
American Sign Language interpretation provided by Jacqueline Corey (10:45)
Our first UU principle says that we honor the inherent worth and dignity of all people. Let's talk about that word, "inherent," and what it means for this principle which is easy to say and hard to live. A special guest from World Relief will join us to share how they used our Greater Good gift from last year's holiday season.

UU University
December 5, 6:30 pm  UU HISTORY: YOUNG FAITH This is the second of two sessions on UU history. We will focus on the ways in which our faith, while in some ways ancient, is also very new, since the consolidation in 1961 between the Unitarians and the Universalists created something new and unique. Come explore the ways in which the echoes of our ancient faith inform (for good and bad) our young faith. We will cover the Consolidation, the Fellowship Movement, the Black Empowerment Tragedy, and more. Come, learn more about our incredible tradition!

MidAmerica Chalice Lighter Program
The Fellowship is part of the MidAmerica Region through the UUA, and they do important work supporting many congregations, including ours. One of the ways they do this is through the Chalice Lighter Program: We help our congregations do bigger and better things by serving as the conduit for individual giving to dynamic congregational programs. From augmenting staff to retrofitting buildings for accessibility, to provide outreach to those in your community, to whatever else will help you be more effective, welcoming, and strong, the Chalice Lighter program gives away more than $30,000 every year directly to our congregations. Become a Chalice Lighter today by donating $20 to the Fall Call HERE.
