Towson University starts spring semester January 28

Winter graduates crossed the stage at SECU Arena just about five weeks ago, and there's still a real chill in the air around Towson University. But spring is here.

While we still have a few more weeks before flowers start to bloom on our beautiful, green campus, spring semester officially begins Monday, January 28.

As our whole campus community comes back this week, we wanted to run down some things you'll need to know:

What you may have missed

Since December finals, there have been some highs in athletics over the past couple weeks. We also celebrated the Tigers athletics department was named the national champ of the NCAA Team Works Helper Helper Competition for the Fall 2018 semester.

There were some other notable achievements, accolades and awards, too:

And congrats to the 2,301 new TU alums who graduated in December. If you are one: be sure to check out Tiger Connect to take advantage of our large, engaged community of Tigers.

Some new and familiar faces

In February, Towson University will welcome our new provost and executive vice president of academic affairs Dr. Melanie Perreault.

Acting Chief Charles Herring officially became chief of the TU Police Department in December.

Our growing campus

Yes, the cranes are still here — we're excited about the progress of the new science complex, which is nearing it's full height as campus activities ramp up for the spring.

The University Union renovation and expansion is also moving along.

Read more about campus construction here and be sure to follow TU's news Twitter account to stay up to date on detours on campus due to construction.

Dining changes

The dining hall at The Glen is getting a serious makeover and will reopen in 2020 with some new features.

Check out the TU dining website for more info about eating on campus.

A look at the calendar and key dates

It starts with Monday, the start of the semester.

Spring Break is March 17-24 — the largest break on the academic calendar.

May 14 marks the last day of classes for the semester, with finals beginning May 15.

Commencement will be held May 22-24.

There are some more exciting events we'll be sharing in the near future. Find a full list of events here.

A new, bolder TU

It won't be a drastic change immediately, but over the course of 2019, you'll start to see more prominent use of TU's new logo.

And while you may see some folks sporting it, don't feel left out — TU will be holding some t-shirt swaps to get you outfitted in the new brand mark sometime in the near future. Be sure to keep an eye out on social media and in your new TU Today daily emails for information on those events.
