Job Summary

Open continuously - Multiple full-time openings.
Salary Range: $27,096 to $34,860 for full-time yearly salary, depending on qualifications and experience

The Facilities & Capital Projects division operates and maintains building systems, interior spaces, and building exteriors across Shoreline Community College's 26 buildings, including an award-winning automotive training center, a visual arts building, computer centers, laboratories, a student center, a theater, a gymnasium, a child care center, a multimedia center, and the Ray W. Howard Library/Technology Center.  Under the general supervision of the Custodian Supervisor, this position is responsible for performing various housekeeping and custodial-related tasks, including routine, nightly cleaning of assigned areas.
 
Essential Job Duties:

  • Routine cleaning and sanitation such as sweeping, mopping, restroom upkeep, and trash removal of assigned areas and/or buildings
  • Provide event setup and support, such as arranging furniture, trash removal, and clean-up
  • Maintains inventories and make simple reports for supplies and equipment
  • Attend training sessions
  • Other duties as assigned of a similar level/nature

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Six (6) months to one (1) year of experience in custodial, general or building maintenance, grounds keeping, or semi-skilled carpentry, electrical and/or plumbing work
 
LICENSES:
  • Valid Washington State driver's license; clean driving record (maximum of one [1] moving violation in the last twelve [12] months, no suspension/revocation of license for reckless driving, hit and run, leaving an accident scene, failure to appear, DUI, or other vehicle-related felony in the last five [5] years)
  • Interview finalists will be required to submit a current driving abstract (no more than one [1] month old) to meet the licensing requirement
 
KNOWLEDGE OF:
  • Cleaning methods, procedures, materials, and safe use of all job-related chemicals
  • Proper use of job-related equipment such as custodial/maintenance powered and hand tools
  • Occupational hazards, safety rules and regulations
 
SKILL IN:
  • Receiving shift instructions verbally or in writing, requiring communication in both oral and written English
  • Fostering a climate of equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and competence
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of students, staff, and the public in a friendly, courteous and helpful manner
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Conditions of Employment

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Duties common to custodial work require physical strength, agility, and endurance to walk/stand for prolonged periods of time, bend/reach, lift, pull or push objects weighing up to 75 lbs., climb ladders, and operate machinery.
  • Exposure to cleaning agents, chemicals, dust, and other environmental conditions is expected in custodial work.
 
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT/SALARY:
This position is allocated to pay range 29 under the Washington State Department of Personnel Higher Education salary schedule.  Salary placement for new employees is determined by the College. This position works 40 hours per week, with schedule dependent upon department needs. Hiring of this position is contingent on available funding as determined by the College President.
 
OTHER CONDITIONS:
In compliance with the Immigration and Nationality Act, proof of authorization to work in the United States will be required at the time of hire. Other conditions that may apply will be detailed upon the offer of employment. This position is overtime eligible.
