Movie fanatics constantly struggle to achieve just the right ratio of “new-to-me” movies to re-watches. You always want to discover something new, but there’s frequently that thought in the back of your mind that perhaps you should give a certain title another look. I’m not talking about “comfort” movies, films you return to again and again on a more-or-less regular basis. I certainly have those (The Maltese Falcon, Vertigo, and The Thing, to name just a few), but you’ll find none of them on today’s list of rewatches. With few exceptions, these are films I’m seeing for the second time with at least 10 years between viewings. These are the films I’m glad I revisited, films that have held up and still have something to say to me. The films are in the order I saw them this year.
