Thief with 'empty hole' heart stealing holiday decorations, police say
NICHOLE: THIS IS ONE OF THE HOMES THAT WAS HIT BY THE THIEF. IT IS ON A MAIN ROAD BUT IT DIDN’T STOP SOMEONE FROM SNEAKING ONTO THE LAWN AT NIGHT AND STEALING SOME OF THE HOLIDAY DECOR. WRENTHAM POLICE ARE ON THE HUNT FOR A THIEF. >> THE ONLY SUSPECT WE HAVE IS THE GRINCH. NICHOLE: SOMEONE HAS BEEN TAKING CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS AT NIGHT. >> THEY’VE BEEN DISAPPEARING -- NICHOLE: AND LEAVING DEVASTATED FAMILIES IN THE MORNING. SUZANNE: HE WAS HEARTBROKEN, HE HAD SPENT HIS OWN MONEY ON THAT. THEY WEREN’T WORTH A WHOLE LOT BUT IT WAS STILL THE IDEA. IT REALLY MADE HIM VERY DISAPPOINTED. NICHOLE: POLICE SAY MULTIPLE HOMES HAVE BEEN HIT. >> WE WERE IN SHOCK. WE THOUGHT THEY BLEW AWAY ‘CAUSE THE WIND WAS VERY ROUGH. BUT WE KNEW THERE WAS NO WAY SOMETHING LIKE THAT COULD BLOW AWAY. LOOKED AROUND, NO SIGNS, AND YOU COULD TELL THEY WERE RIPPED OUT OF THE GROUND. NICHOLE: POLICE ARE ADVISING HOMEOWNERS TO MAKE SURE THEIR SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS ARE POINTED TOWARD LAWN DECORATIONS AND ANGLED TO CAPTURE LICENSE PLATES. >> WE’RE GONNA GET YOU, MR. GRINCH. A Grinch is on the loose in Wrentham and is targeting outdoor holiday decorations, police warn.Wrentham police said Christmas decorations have been stolen from yards, including lawn projectors, a blow-up Santa, a blow-up snowman and decorative lights. The thefts have been reported on Dedham Street and in other neighborhoods."These are expensive decorations and we'd love nothing more than to nab the thief whose heart is an empty hole," Wrentham police wrote on Facebook. "If anyone can point us in the direction of this seasick crocodile, please call the WPD at 508-384-2121. We truly want to stop this nasty, wasty skunk!"Police said there are some ways residents can protect their decorations, including by pointing home surveillance cameras at the items or where it can capture a vehicle's license plate."Adding a wire/cable from your decoration secured to a nearby tree or the house. Attach noisy objects (bells, chimes, etc.) to the electrical cord/cable to create a ruckus when moved," police said.Police also suggested positioning motion detector lights to go on if someone is near the decorations.
