Courseault Repeats as PacWest Track Athlete of the Year

IRVINE, Calif. –The PacWest Conference released the 2019 edition of the league's annual awards on Wednesday, with Brie Courseault earning Track Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive season. She is the only female in the history of the conference to win the award in back-to-back campaigns.

"The PacWest has become one of the fastest conferences in all of the NCAA, so for Brie to be recognized as the Track Athlete of the Year is truly an honor," head coach Ray Winter said. 'Her range in the 100, 200, and 400 and, of course, both relays definitely makes her unique. She continues to rewrite our school records, win conference titles, and put us and our league on the national map with her All-American performances. She is as great of a person and a scholar as she is a runner."

A native of Hesperia, Calif., Courseault had a trailblazing junior season in which she recorded a slew of lifetime bests while ranking near the top of the DII national performance lists. She clocked a lifetime best 11.90 in the 100m dash at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational, which vaulted her into the top 20 in the DII rankings and was just two hundredths of a second shy of breaking the school record.

She went on to run a 2:14.50 in the 800m at Triton Invitational for a lifetime best, which ranks her third all-time at FPU. Courseault really hit her stride at the Bryan Clay Invitational, clocking yet another lifetime best 54.22 in the 400m, and that mark ranked her second in the West Region and sixth among national marks.

Courseault followed up that performance with a 23.83 in the 200m, putting her second on the DII list. She capped off her season with gold medal at the PacWest championships, taking home the individual title in the 400m race with a time of 54.53. Additionally, she currently ranks in the top 20 on the DII performance lists for the 200m (8th), 400m (10th), 4x400 relay (11th) and 4x100 relay (20th).

Courseault will be competing in the 200m and 400m at the NCAA DII National Championships in Kingsville, Texas next week. She will also be competing in the 4x400, where she will be joined by Danae Manibog, Chloe Sharp and Madison Flores
