Fairfield Lacrosse Announces Home Scrimmages; Michigan and Boston U. Visit Rafferty Stadium on Jan. 27

The Stags will also scrimmage Sacred Heart on Feb. 3 prior to the start of the 2018 campaign

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse will host a day of scrimmages on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium on Saturday, Jan. 27. The Stags will welcome the University of Michigan and Boston University with action beginning at 10 a.m. The event is free and open to the public, and concessions will be sold inside the stadium.

Fairfield Men's Lacrosse is led by Head Coach Andy Copelan, who will be in his 10th season at the helm in 2018. The Stags' roster features 32 returners and 13 newcomers, including five players that have garnered All-CAA laurels in their careers: Colin Burke, Will Fox, Joe Rodrigues, Dylan Beckwith and Travis Ford.

After posting an 8-6 record in 2017, the Michigan Wolverines will be led into the 2018 campaign by first-year head coach Kevin Conry. Most recently the associate head coach and defensive coordinator for 2017 National Champion Maryland, Conry previously served on Copelan's staff at Fairfield from 2009-12, including his final two seasons as associate head coach.

Head Coach Ryan Polley has guided the Boston University Terriers since their inaugural campaign of 2014, most recently posting a 12-5 season last spring that included the program's first-ever trip to the Patriot League Tournament.

Fairfield will play Michigan at 10 a.m. at Rafferty Stadium, followed by an abbreviated contest between the Wolverines and Boston U. beginning at approximately 12:30 p.m. The day concludes with the Stags returning to the field to scrimmage the Terriers at 2 p.m.

The following Saturday, Feb. 3, the Stags will host crosstown opponent Sacred Heart. The Pioneers, who went 9-6 and qualified for the NEC Tournament in 2017, are coached by Jon Basti '99, a member of Fairfield's 1996 and 1997 MAAC Championship teams. Basti was also an assistant coach with the Stags for three seasons, including the 2005 Great Western Lacrosse League Championship squad that advanced to the NCAA postseason. The game is also free and open to the public. The concession stand inside Rafferty Stadium will not be open.

"We're fortunate to have two home scrimmage dates coming up. Both Michigan and Boston University have talented rosters, are well coached, and seem to be programs on the rise," said Copelan. "The following weekend, we're looking forward to welcoming Fairfield alum Jon Basti back to campus as we square off against his Pioneers. All three of these contests will provide great challenges and opportunities for growth as we prepare for the 2018 season."

The Stags begin the 2018 regular season on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium on Saturday, Feb. 10 against Vermont. The noon faceoff with the Catamounts is the first half of a doubleheader that will also feature Fairfield Women's Lacrosse hosting Holy Cross at 3 p.m.
