Painting on Metal Surfaces
Demonstration by Esa Nieminen

Professional artist and instructor, Esa will share his skills and secrets as he demonstrates the exciting possibilities when painting on metal surfaces.  Please see the website for more information.

Art Challenge:  Blossom Parade

The Port Dalhousie Legion Hall
57 Lakeport Rd., St Catharines, ON L2N 4P6
Phone: (905) 934-1261

Please send any general inquiries to info@stcatharinesart.com.

Exhibit #2 will begin on July 1, 2018

A big thank you goes out to all of the artists whose paintings were selected (gradually) into the first Art at Roma exhibit, which will be brought to a close on June 30th.

To ensure a seamless transition between the current exhibition and the next one, which will run from July 1st to September 30th, please start sending in your submissions now to events@stcatharinesart.com.  As before, please submit up to 3 images, which are between 3' and 5' in any direction, or both.  If you have visited Club Roma to see the current exhibit, you can see that the larger the painting/photograph, the better.

Since this is the height of wedding season at Club Roma, for this exhibit we are asking that you submit paintings/photographs that complement weddings such as florals, landscapes, summertime, etc.  As well, any Italian-themed paintings are especially liked by Club Roma.

The deadline for submissions for Exhibit #2 is Friday, June 15, 2018.

Art Challenge at the Monthly Meetings

As with the March and April Art Challenges, we will continue to showcase the paintings that are brought in at each meeting, take photos of them, and set up a gallery of submissions for each Monthly Art Challenge on the SCAA website.

This month's Art Challenge is Blossom Parade.  Help us to continue this time-honoured tradition since the earliest days of the SCAA and bring a piece of art to the meeting on May 22nd that you feel would meet this challenge.

Looking forward to seeing what you have been working on!

Coming in June...

Don't miss the last meeting of the year!  We will have lots planned, including:

The 2nd Annual Art Marketplace Trunk Sale and Exchange

Last year we held our first ever Art Marketplace Trunk Sale and Exchange in the parking lot ahead of the June 2017 members meeting.  For the few members who were part of this first Marketplace, it was a resounding success! There were small and large sales, as well as exchanges and giveaways.

The 2nd Annual Art Marketplace Trunk Sale and Exchange will be held ahead of this year's final meeting on Tuesday, June 26, 2018.  Fill your trunk with art-related items you would like to sell or give away, and show up at the Legion Hall parking lot by 5:30 pm, and will run until 6:30 pm, when the doors will open for the meeting.

Membership Renewal

Membership ends on June 30th and can be renewed by e-transfer to business@stcatharinesart.com or by mailing in a cheque.  Please include any changes to your contact information.

You can also bring your membership renewal to the Legion Hall during The Art Marketplace Trunk Sale and Exchange, starting at 5:30 pm, ahead of the June Members Meeting on Tues. June 26th, 2018.  We will accept cash or cheque.  Membership renewal at this meeting will close at 6:30 pm.

The Annual General Meeting and Year-End Party

The Board will present a brief report of all that happened in the SCAA this year while you enjoy sandwiches and treats.

Volunteer Sign-Up in place of Elections

Yeah! This is what you have all been waiting for!  A chance to step forward and take on one of the many volunteer opportunities that keep the SCAA one of the most vibrant art organizations in Ontario.  You can get a sneak peek of the sign-up lists at the May Members Meeting.

Member Show and Tell

Instead of an Art Challenge at the June meeting, bring in one of your favourite pieces to share with fellow members.  Please plan to keep your presentation to 2 minutes to allow time for everyone.

Have you got a show or event coming up?
We want to share your news and promote it here!
Let us know by the 3rd Monday of each month.
Send in your event details to

info@stcatharinesart.com

Please note that for an additional $10 per year you can have your bio and 10 images on your Member Page in the Members Directory on the SCAA website.  This must be renewed each year.  Please remember to include this in your renewal payment.

Membership renewal will continue through the summer, by mail or e-transfer, and you can still renew at the September Members Meeting to receive the Early Bird rate of $35.

Membership Cards and receipts will be available at the September meeting.

Member Pages in the Website Directory

Everyone gets their own page!  This is one of the many benefits of being a member of the SCAA.

Please send in a selfie photo or self-portrait to Marvyn Rivett at marvynrivett@mac.com to make the directory page as complete as possible.  This photo will also appear on your page, along with basic contact information for you (email, personal website, phone number if you wish).  We do not include personal addresses on these pages.

If you wish to have up to 10 photos of your art, along with your artist bio and/or additional information, it is an additional $10 per year.  If you have paid this fee, remember to send them and your bio in to Marvyn as soon as possible.  If you need help with your photos, please let us know at info@stcatharinesart.com.

Bio Binder

For all new members:  We keep member artist biographies in two binders that we bring to shows and events.  Keeping it to a single page, you should include a short write-up about yourself and your art, a photo of yourself, and a couple photos of your work.

For all long-standing members: Consider updating and replacing the artist bio you currently have in the binders.

Please bring your updated page for the SCAA Bio Binder or send the document to info@stcatharinesart.com

Art Marketplace on the Members Only Pages

For some members, a small exchange of a special paint here or an extra brush there is all that is needed to get the next masterpiece underway.  It is also a great way to keep art-related waste down by reducing, reusing, and recycling.

We can get this going together!

Send your "Items Available" or "Items Needed" postings to info@stcatharinesart.com, and include your contact information (a phone number and/or email address).  If you are posting for Items Available, please give as much information as possible, and be sure to include the price (or state that it is free).

Make Every Day Earth Day

Do you have some tips to share on how you keep your art activity environmentally-friendly?  Send them to info@stcatharinesart.com.  Look for these and more in the Members Only Pages, coming soon.

Condolences

If you know of any members who may be ill or who may have lost someone recently, please let us know so that we can send a card.

Volunteers Always Welcome

Finding you have some spare time through the week or the month and think you'd like to help out?  Let anyone at the Welcome Table know, or contact us at info@stcatharanesart.com
