ABRAHAM DAVIS—Honest Abe to his friends—IS IN OVER HIS HEAD...

He’s a fixer and a do good-er. The all-knowing, resident "grandfather" on the wrestling team who everyone relies on to fix their problems. His teammates go to him for everything; advice, homework, or when they need a sober driver at three in the morning--whether he likes it or not.

Abe’s current mission is easy: mend his roommates broken heart by helping him find a girlfriend on the LoveU app--without getting caught in the lie...

SKYLAR GABRIEL. IS. OVER. IT.

Over her bad grades. Over her meddling older brother and his two best friends. And over dating douchebags. What she wants to know is: where have all the nice guys gone?

She longs for a handsome, sweet, and honest guy who can make her laugh. In one last ditch effort to prove that he exists—Skylar turns to LoveU.

On her worst day, Skylar has no filter (it’s a miracle she hasn’t been ditched mid-date).
On her best, she’s as wholesome, and sweet, as pie.
On Thursday? She matches with Abraham Davis’s roommate.

Skylar Gabriel is falling for the wrong guy—she just doesn’t realize it yet.

Why?

BECAUSE ABE DAVIS IS A LIAR.

Sara Ney writes the best laugh out loud rom-coms. Seriously, this book was a hoot. So hilarious. I can’t count how many times I literally laughed out loud. I've been reading a lot of emotional reads lately and this was exactly the book I needed in my life at this moment.

Abraham Davis is a wrestler but he's not your typical jock. He has the biggest heart and would give the shirt off of his back to anyone in need. This can cause him to get taken advantage of and he gets into a bit of a situation because of it... Abe is trying to help his roommate get back in the dating game after getting his heart broken. He's setting up dates for him on an app exclusive to their campus. He's just vetting the girls and chatting with them (as the friend) for a bit to make sure they're a good fit for JB. And all is going well... until he falls for one of them.

Skylar hasn't put herself out there in a long time and her bestie talks her into logging on to said app. She's aprehensive to say the least. Until she starts talking to this one guy. He seems pretty perfect. Until she meets him. JB is nothing like he seems to be and she's so confused. She really connects with this guy on the app, but in person they do not fit. Then she meets his roommate Abe. That is the type of guy she wants. Things get a little bit conflicted up in here...

There is a huge douchebag in this book, but it’s not the hero. My Abe is the sweetest! And I really liked Skylar, too. She's a little blunt, has no filter, and is a lot of fun. She and Abe compliment each other perfectly. Skylar’s roommate Hannah made this book for me. My god I laughed so hard any time she was in the picture. And my boy Zeke made more than one appearance and it made me so so happy! Also, that epilogue… I am living for what’s coming next!!! This is a series that never disappoints. I've loved each book and I'm so happy there are more to come.

Ney's writing is effortlessly funny and this story is sweet, swoony, hilarious and has just the right amount of steam. Highly recommended to all lovers of new adult romance and sports romance!!
Lost. She’s lost in herself, and I’m lost in her and it’s freaking gorgeous. I fucking love her. One swipe. One date. Sweet. Salty. Bratty. Kind—and all mine.

”The second I saw Skylar, it was like a punch to the gut. I knew I wasn’t going to make it out the other side without some collateral damage.”

THE LYING HOURS is another romantic comedy that tries to put a new spin on the “Cyrano De Bergerac” story and even though it might be predictable, I can’t deny that it was wildly entertaining. I didn’t know what to make of Abraham Davis at first, but as soon as we find out he’s a huge reader and loves to spend quiet time in a second-hand book store, I was a goner for him. He’s truly a good guy, who might be a bit of a pushover, but his heart is golden.

Skylar is snarky and a little anti-social…my kind of girl. She’s not into partying and getting drunk. Skylar wants to be in a committed relationship but hasn’t had luck in the love department and so she signs up on a dating app after being convinced to do so by her bestie. She soon matches up with JB, and the two have great banter over the app. What she doesn’t know is JB is really Abe, who is chatting up girls for his roommate/teammate who is trying to get over a broken heart. JB is a true douchebag with absolutely no skills with the written word, so Abe agrees to help him find girls in hopes that his friend gets out of the funk he’s in. I’m beginning to realize that it’s the friends in these stories that are the douchebags and not the main characters!

Of course, when Skylar meets the real JB for drinks, it’s obvious that the two have absolutely no chemistry and JB pretty much screws it all up. Somehow Abe convinces Skylar to agree to another date with JB but this time it's a double date which Abe and her Bestie, Hannah, will go on with them. It’s during this double date that Abe realizes the girl of his dreams is the one he’s been trying to woo for his buddy JB. How is he going to get the girl, when she’s supposed to be with JB? What will Skylar do when she finds out Abe has been deceiving her from the start? Makes for a pretty interesting plot, right?!!

Here are my overall ratings:

Heroes: 5
Heroine: 4.5
Plot: 4
Angst: 4
Steam: 4
Chemistry Between Hero & Heroine: 4.5

The author always comes up with heroes that would make ultimate boyfriends. She did it with Rhett and Kip, and now with Abe. He was adorable – there is just no other way to describe him. He wasn’t perfect, but in the end, the whole enchilada of all things ABRAHAM DAVIS was adorable!!!

For me the book really started to come together in the second half of the novel. The banter, the lol moments, I enjoyed it all.

Skylar and her roommate Hannah were the hoot!! Like an old married couple they made me laugh and grin so much – even if sometimes they took it a bit too far. But I adored how comfortable they were with each other – friendship goals!!! It was all very much what I enjoy in a SN book.

On top of that, Skylar and Abe were a great couple. They were similar in many ways, especially in their personalities. Both were quieter and laid back – people I could easily relate to. But in the bedroom – lol – those two had me cracking up! Still waters run deep etc – lol.

Even my love for all things Zeke was rewarded with a cameo that I just adored. He was his asshole self and I adored him.

My thoughts:

Now even though I didn’t exactly get what I wanted. In my eyes and heart, this book wasn’t a real Douchebag book. The hero was much too sweet and adorable to be titled a Douchebag. But fortunately the banter, and lol moments I came to adore from this author, brought it all together.

All in all, The Lying Hours was a sweet addition to a favorite series. Not exactly what I wanted and needed, nevertheless enjoyable, and of course it left me wanting more. Which we might get with Hannah’s novella – yay.

After a month of DNFing book after book, I finally managed to finish one!

description

Granted, it took me two weeks to finish The Lying Hours but the fact that I finished is what counts!

Just some quick random thoughts:

Did I think this was a necessary addition to this series?

No, not really.

Did I still enjoy this book?

For the most part, I did!

I especially loved seeing my fave Zeke Daniels again! I seriously will never tire of this man!

DNF @ 89%

I know, I know! 89%! I just couldn't continue.

I hated this h. I felt like she was just a bratty B if I'm being completely honest. I struggled with how rude and mean she was to the H and even her best friend. My issues started when she was being nasty about the H doing things for other people and insulting him for his kindness being taken advantage of by his friends, but then she proceeds to take advantage of him later and expects him to just take it! I didn't find any redeeming qualities about her.

I think I kept pushing myself to continue because I liked the H so much. He was pretty awesome and I felt like he deserved SO much better! Skylar was the definite douchebag in this book.

My final straw was their first intimate scene. It wasn't intimate at all! She was bossy (and not in a fun way 😜) and completely selfish to where she was doing stuff like rolling her eyes and snapping at the H during it and he was apologizing. Not sexy at all.

She's not even close to the kind of h I want to read about. Thank goodness this was on KU.

Other readers seemed to like this just fine, so it very well could've been just a me thing 🤷🏻‍♀️

The Lying Hours has all of Sara Ney's trademark deep soulful laugh out loud banter between her characters, one of the things I adore about this author. This is book 5 in the series, but can definitely be enjoyed as a standalone.

Gotta love the boyfriends Sara Ney dreams up for us...... Abe was such a swoony hero and ohhhh so handsome. He’s the guy we all wish actually existed in real life, and we were lucky enough to have his attention.

If you love sports romance and new adult novels, you need to pick up this sweet read. It'll leave you smiling and definitely swooning

I’m the guy they go to when they want something fixed, like their car. Or their love life.

Looking for a fun, light-hearted New Adult romance that packs plenty of laughs along with a sweet and steamy romance? Look no further! The Lying Hours was everything I've come to love about Sara Ney and everything I love in New Adult romance. It had amazing secondary characters, a cameo from my TOP FAVORITE douchebag. Oh, and I'm pretty convinced that Skylar's BFF happens to be my spirit animal. But I digress.

Contrary to the title, Abe is definitely not a douchebag. He's the quintessential nice guy. He's the fixer, the one everyone goes to with their problems. He's also the one currently trying to pick out dates for his lazy roommate who's trying to get over his ex. The only problem? His roommate is most definitely a douchebag. And the last girl that he matches him with on the university's dating app happens to be a lot more of his type. But she thinks she's talking to JB. And poor Abe is in way over his head.

Admittedly, this got off to a somewhat slow start with me. I'm not even sure why, or if I can put my finger on why exactly. But I also know that it didn't last long before I was completely enraptured in this story. Skylark is everything I love in a great heroine. This girl takes zero sh*t. She isn't shy about putting anyone in their place, including JB and then sooner or later, poor Abe too. Her best friend and roommate Hannah was the comedic relief of the story. This chick was AWESOME. I seriously couldn't get enough of her quirky humor and loud mouth. I'm seriously thrilled to get a novella for her next. But I digress again.

I loved that Skylar makes Abe work for it. And I loved that even though Abe is a super nice guy, he's also not perfect. The man messes up on more than one occasion but he's not afraid to own up to it either. The chemistry between them was instant and potent. I loved the two of them together once they finally get there.

I would have loved to have an epilogue or another chapter for them, though. I couldn't help but feel like I wanted just a little more of the romance at the end because it IS a slow burn for them for a while. I suppose I just wanted more of them together to appease my selfish wants. Le sigh. But that aside, I still seriously loved this book. It was quirky and fun and absolutely delicious! I adore this series and I adore everything Sara Ney writes. This was certainly no exception.

Well... I'm pretty upset to admit that this was just an okay read for me. I love this series so much, my favorites were Oz and Zeke, and Rhett became my ultimate book boyfriend but the one about Elliot and this one were not a hit for me.
I mostly just dragged this book and didn't connect with the characters or laughed with the scenes, they were just so whiny, boring and ugh, I don't know, I didn't like them. I have to say my favorite parts were when Zeke was on and talking about Violet and helping Abe, the rest was just meh.
I don't know, I think I expected a lot from this book and ended up a little disappointed but I won't give up on this series and I'm already looking forward to seeing the novella Sara Ney will be releasing in August about Hannah and Rex. Hannah was actually the best character in this one.

This book was so lame… so so lame! Not recommended at all!

1,5 stars

I read Book 1 & 2 in this series and they were good. I had fun reading them and my rating was 4 stars for both. I skipped Book 3 & 4 because they were not my cuppa and I read this one. Real life sucks these days so I needed a book to put a smile on my face. However, I never smiled while reading it -not even once!

It is never fun. It is boring and frustrating.

*********************************************

The hero is a pushover. He thinks he is a nice guy who helps people around him but what he cannot see is he is abused by them. They all take advantage of him. He is not even a beta, he is just a lame guy.

The way the hero, Abe, meets the heroine is through a dating app. Abe answers the messages of his roommate, JB, on the app as he is not good at messaging or communication. So basically, he is like a pimp, finding girls for his friend to hook-up. He does the opening conversations and sets a date and a place!

For once, he himself gets interested in one of these girls. Although he knows she won’t like his roommate JB and he is also sure that his roommate will not like her, he still sets them up.

Come on, you have been messaging with the girl and finding her funny and smart. You have been wanting to meet her, so why set her up with JB?

Of course, the date is a disaster but then, he sets up another date, this time a double date and asks our heroine Skylar to bring a friend. During that date, Skylar and JB still don’t have any chemistry but Abe and Skylar do. After that date, he still pretends to be JB on the app and asks Skylar if she wants to have a date with Abe and she agrees to it.

Lies, lies, lies...

*********************************************

I waited patiently until they became a couple, hoping it might get better but no, it just gets worse and worse. The following parts may contain spoilers.

Well, at the end of the novel , they are just dating, nothing else... So you may call it a "Happy for Now" kind of ending.

*********************************************

The book is not funny. It is not emotional. It is not hot. The intimate scenes are towards the end and only twice. Neither of them are tastefully written. So, all in all, the book is a huge disappointment from all aspects.

There is no epilogue. The last chapter is by Skylar's roommate, Hannah, and it is about a guy she meets on the same app. That chapter serves as a preparation for the next book. I sure won't be reading it; dropping the series here...

*********************************************

QUOTES FORM THE BOOK

“I’ve never met such a yes man.”
“I’m not a yes man.”
Skylar rolls her eyes. “Sure you’re not.”
“I’m not.”
“It’s one of two things: you’re a yes man, or you sincerely enjoy doing it. Which one is it? Pick one. … It’s one or the other, Abe. You either love swiping or you’re Jack’s bitch. What other explanation is there?”

***

“If you liked me so much, how could you let your roommate take me out?”
“I don’t know. ... All I know is that I prayed like hell that first date was going to suck.”

***

I was just collateral damage from his dysfunctional relationship with his roommate.

***

“I have to open the door.”
“Uh. No you don’t,” Abe replies. He’s already half off the bed, pulling on his pants. To me he says, “You have to hide.”
“Oh my god, I am not hiding. This is ridiculous. …”
“The window! …” He starts gathering my clothes and tossing them at me, article by article until I’m frowning, bra hitting my chest. “Put that on.” Instead, I throw it back down to the floor.
“What the hell, Abe? I am not going out the window!”
“What about the closet?”
...
“This has gone on long enough. … I’m leaving.” I walk to the window and unlatch it.
“I’m sorry about the window, babe. Let me get my sneakers and I’ll come with you.”
He makes quick work of dressing, but when I turn, I hold my hand up in rebuke. “Forget it. I’m going home—alone.”
“Why?”
“Because. Until you grow a pair of balls and tell JB you have a girlfriend, you don’t have a girlfriend.”
“Skylar, come on.”
“No.”
“You’re overreacting. … Skylar, don’t leave.”
“If you think I’m hiding in your closet from that asshole, you’re out of your damn mind, and the fact that you would ask me to says more about you than it does about me. … Don’t call me until you care more about me than about what your roommate thinks.”

Another winner for me, Sara Ney has completely pulled me in with this series and this new addition to the family is no disappointment.

This was a cute book, easy to just get comfy and immerse yourself in the story. Plus, bonus points for the humour - The Lying Hours was such an entertaining read and I really loved both characters.

He is a Douchebag after all...

I liked The Lying Hours and finished the story with a smile on my face. If I take too long to write this review, there's a good chance that my smile will turn to a frown. I could overanalyse the characters, the despicable behaviour and the disrespect shown to females. This Douchebag acts in a despicable way and doesn't even initially acknowledge that it was, in fact, a horrible, dishonest and morally wrong thing to do. The heroine of the story forgives him and gives him a second chance...which he then blows. Again, she forgives him, which, while I'm reading I'm all for, but if I think about this too long...

I ended this story on a high after going on an emotional journey with the characters to get to the happy, happy, joy, joy. Would I really want this to be someone's happy ever after? No. This story did not convince me that ANY of the characters learned their lesson and will be better for it. I see a bad path for the boy who gets away with having someone constantly clean up his messes. I see a bad path for the other boy who enables and lets things slide when a "friend" is doing wrong. I see a bad path for the girl who allows herself to be mistreated and dishonoured and goes back for more.

A high while reading but left with a bad taste when I finished writing this review. I guess my smile did turn into a frown after all.

ANOTHER EARLY RELEASE!

The Lying Hours, is the fifth book in the How to Date a Douchebag series and takes a bit of a twist with Abe Davis as our hero. Abe isn't the douchebag that you would expect to read about based off of the previous heroes. He's actually a really sweet guy, always friendly, and will do anything his friends ask him to. Which is what leads him to making one huge asshole-y move. But it's also what brings Skylar into his life, so it can't be all that bad - right?

I loved the adorable text flirting back and forth and how adorable Abe could be. I wasn't lying when I said this boy was sweet, and it added a really fun vibe to the book. Especially when that flirting turned into a real life thing and it was someone even better. Abe and Skylar were the perfect match and they had me happy sighing, and even smiling like a loon at times, as I read.

Overall, this book gets a thumbs up from me and I definitely recommend it. All of these books can be read as standalones so if you haven't read anything from this series yet I think this is a great book to start with.

I was so thrilled to learn that Sara Ney was continuing on with the How to Date a Douchebag series! I love these books so much, they are pure NA sports romantic comedy gold, and I loved being back in this world.

Abe Davis is a college wrestler in his junior year, and he is a devoted student who is a bit on the quiet side, preferring studying to partying. He has a heart of gold and is the one that his friends and teammates turn to whenever they need help, to the point that he has been nicknamed the team’s ‘Grandfather’. His latest mission is to help his teammate/roommate, JB, get over his broken heart by trying to find him a girl via the college’s dating app. Abe goes online, vets the matches, starts up a quick dialogue and sets up the dates, leaving JB to take it from there.

Skylar Gabriel’s is a down-to-earth girl whose life is defined by average grades and embracing her love of pyjamas and couch time over the college social life. She has great friends, but she wants to find love - a sweet guy with a sense of humor who is looking for something more than a quick hook-up. With encouragement from her girlfriends, she turns to the college’s dating app hoping to meet somebody.

Within moments of logging in, Skylar matches with JB, and they begin a fun, banter-filled flirtation. They click instantly, and they’re both feeling the attraction which only deepens the longer they keep messaging each other. But the problem is – she’s not falling for JB, she’s falling for Abe. And Abe wants Skylar for himself.

This is such a cute and fun set-up. The chemistry between Abe and Skylar is fantastic, the text conversations are so entertaining, and I couldn’t wait to see how their attraction would translate into real life…. and I was not disappointed! But with their whole relationship built on deception, how will they be able to untangle the lies, and where do they go from here?

“For what it’s worth, I…” It sounds like I’m choking on my words, throat constricting. “I think you’re pretty fucking perfect.”

I really enjoyed this read, it’s a great romance and the characters are fantastic – Skylar is funny and so relatable, and Abe is just gorgeous, sweet and funny, I fell for him so hard. This book can easily be read as a standalone as the only thing really tying it to the series is the setting, but fans will love the cameo from our favourite Douchebag, Zeke, as he imparts his dating wisdom, lol. And that epilogue gives us a glimpse of more that is to come and I cannot wait!

Loved it - 4 stars.

I was so excited when I learned that Sara Ney would be giving us another book in the Douchebag series! The Lying Hours has all of her trademark hilarity and laugh out loud banter, and we even get a guest appearance from a favorite douchebag too! This is book 5 in the series, but can definitely be enjoyed as a standalone, though I highly recommend the previous books.

Abe was such a swoony hero. He’s the guy we all wish actually existed in real life. He does make some poor choices, but his heart was always in the right place. His all in attitude toward Skylar melted my heart. Speaking of Skylar, I respected that she knew what she wanted and didn’t fold under peer pressure. She knew her worth and stuck to her guns. Her roommate, Hannah, was OTT crazy and it brought a lot of humor to the story. The appearance of Zeke was probably the highlight of the book for me and I enjoyed seeing him dispense advice in a perfectly Zeke like way ;) I don’t think I will ever tire of seeing him or getting updates about him and Violet. The ending of the book was a bit abrupt, but the epilogue will make fans of the series happy since we aren’t saying goodbye to the douchebags just yet.

As much as I liked Abe and Skylar, I unfortunately didn’t love them together. Their actions and personalities seemed to change dramatically in the last part of the book and it seemed to contradict the people we had met in the first half. They had chemistry, but it didn’t translate well in the bedroom for me and things just felt more awkward than sexy. Throw in a random inappropriate encounter with a female neighbor and an anticlimactic confrontation between the hero and his roommate and it just left me a bit confused. The pacing of the story felt off, with some parts moving very quickly and others slowly. Unfortunately, it made the book feel disjointed to me. Overall, it was still an enjoyable and funny read, but as much as I loved jumping back into this series, I can’t say that I loved the book itself.

YOU GUYS!! When Sara Ney drops on my kindle, all life stops for me. I have to do nothing and just consume her stories from beginning to end because they are an addiction I can't get enough of. Her Douchebag series in particular is pure comfort for me as the banter is EVERYTHING! I adore this series more and more each time and honestly The Lying hours? PURE D-BAG GOLD!!

To help his heartbroken roomie jump back into the dating scene, Abe Davis swipes and texts with various women on LoveU, their University's dating app. But when he comes across Skylar Gabriel, the gorgeous, down-to-earth girl seemingly made for him, the do-gooder and nice guy in him balks at letting her go. But with this huge lie between them, "Honest" Abe may lose out on the best thing that ever happened to him.

GAH!! The Lying Hours is hands down #bantergoals!! I loved Skylar and Abe's banterific exchanges! And the fact that it all began over a dating app?  ALLLL THE SWOONS!! There is nothing I love more in books than texting. Now combine that with this author's proven D-bag magic - out of this world amazing!!

All in all I loved this story. Skylar and Abe were funny, sweet and sexy with a dash of awkwardness which equals a total endearing package. And the icing on the cake? My favorite A-hole D-Bag's return! Lord that man gives me life. He is my favorite mean boy and seeing him again was one of the highlights of this book! Bravo! 5 stars! ~Ratula

***

Sara Ney has a gift for these sort of gritty, authentic feeling sports romance stories that pull you in immediately and keep you reading, almost compulsively, until the very last page. Between the easily relatable writing style and her gift for dialogue and banter - each one of her stories is basically a "sure thing".

So, no surprise then that I loved The Lying Hours, right?

Indeed, I was sucked in immediately. As someone who has navigated the dicey world of online dating, I loved the concept of how Abe and Skylar met. I enjoyed those first conversations between them immensely. Abe was so the guy I yearned for back in my dating days. He's smart and witty and gives good banter. I was probably hooked on him way before Skylar was because everything about him was adorable to me.

Skylar was a bit more difficult for me to attach to. I love a quirky heroine more than anything, but something about her particular brand of quirky left me with one eyebrow raised, a little unsure if this is someone I would be friends with in real life. I appreciated the healthy amount of self respect she had, and how she wasn't afraid to stand up for herself. But she came off as over-the-top to me sometimes and I didn't always know what to make of that.

That said, I did love the way these two connected, and laughed so hard as their meet-cute sort of went off the rails, and then recovered in the most adorable way imaginable. My heart thumped and fluttered and kicked all over the place as their chemistry heated up and they began to catch feelings. While I enjoyed their relationship overall, I might have liked a little more depth to it. A little more conversation, a little more back-story, a little more emotional connection. Their physical chemistry was burning up my kindle, but the extra attention to that personal/emotional connection would have taken their relationship to the next level for me I think.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention the magic that was Skylar's best friend, Hannah. Y'all - the secondary character game is strong in this book and Hannah was a scene-stealer extraordinaire. She made me laugh out loud more than once and was the exact kind of goofy, quirky character my heart is powerless against. I'm thrilled to see there's a novella coming with her name in it - soon!

In all? I devoured this book. I adored this fun storyline and the beauty that was Abe Davis. I had so much fun reading it and truly, cannot wait for more! ~ Shelly, 4 Stars

I was so excited for this book you guys! However, after getting a bit over halfway through, I have to call it quits. I didn’t feel any chemistry between Abe and Skylar. Like any. Usually, I love books when people fall for each other through written communication like chatting or letters so I just knew that I was going to love the storyline between them. I mean, it was okay. Just not enough to get me to see them as being anything more.

I couldn’t connect to or even cared about any of the characters except for Hannah. JB was annoying while Skylar and Abe fell flat. I’d rather read a book all about Hannah. She was funny as hell and she wasn’t even a main character.

While I wasn’t impressed with this one, if you are a fan of the Douchebag series then still give it a try.

I received an ARC for an honest review.

This was so good! Hilarious and sexy with banter like no other! Sara Ney has perfected the college romance genre!
"The next guy that breaks my heart is getting peppered sprayed. Look now we're both crying."

Now let me just say how much I love that Skylar was a "regular" girl. I mean aren't most of us like this? She was so relatable. She wasn't that fit, her grades weren't that great and there wasn't really anything interesting about her per se. However, she had such a fun personality, just enough sass and she was strong enough to put Abe in his place when he messed up.

Abe is a wholesome, good natured, kind hearted guy. The type of guy his friends sometimes take for granted. So when his roomamte asks him to lure girls for him under his profile on the dating app, he jumps in to help. He pretends to be his roommate, has engaging converstations with girls, and then asks them on a date that his roomamte will go on instead of him. When he starts talking to Skylar though, he realizes this girl is special.

I couldn't get enough of all the banter while they messaged each other. Witty, amusing and entertaining is an understatement! This book was seriously fun to read. The first half of the book was a bit angsty but overall I thought this was a light, enjoyable read.

The chemistry was on point. So much sexual tension that slowly killed me and the connection between these two was just combustible.

Abe was such a sweetheart that I fell in love with right away. A douchebag he really is not. He acted like an idiot for a whole 5 min towards the end of the book but hey, he's a college guy. He was totally allowed. I loved even more that Skylar was a strong heroine who stood up for herself and demanded he treat her with respect.

I will end my review by saying how much I loved the cameo appearance by what I like to call "the ultimate douchebag". I won't tell you who he is but watching a guy like him give love advice to Abe was just ironic, hysterical and downright perfect!

I highly recommend this one if you love to laugh, enjoy sexy scenes and great banter.

You can imagine how happy I was when Sara Ney announced another book in the How to Date a Douchebag series! I love this new adult series and this group of wrestlers. She writes the best kind of characters that are endearing even when they have their douchebag moments. In The Lying Hours, we have two people who meet and fall for each other on a dating app. Except one of them is lying about who he is…

Abe Davis is a total sweetheart – he’s definitely more along the lines of Rhett and Kip than the other Douchebag boys. He’s the kind of guy who’s willing to do anything for his friends, which is why he’s on a dating app for his roommate to help him get over a bad breakup. He definitely doesn’t expect to match with one Skylar Gabriel, have fun, witty, meaningful text convos with her, and fall for her.

This is a case of a mistaken identity over a dating app, which you can imagine doesn’t go well. But Sara Ney writes all of this with her laugh-out-loud humor and hilarious wit. I loved the way Abe and Skylar connected, and their chemistry is off the charts. Abe is basically a big ole teddy bear you just want to hug. Skylar is the kind of heroine who you want to be best friends with. She and her best friend Hannah were so much fun to read about. I wish this book was a little bit longer, and that we got more time with Abe and Sky as a couple, but other than that, this is another great installment in the series! Now I need Hannah’s book!

Ok, so I just want to start by saying this series is legit one of the absolute best series I’ve EVER come across. It’s funny, sexy and totally freaking awesome.

ARC received in exchange for an honest review

So when I seen Sara had a new book coming out in the douchebag series I knew instantly I would HAVE to read it! I’m a big fan of this series and I’ve loved every single one I’ve met especially Abe. His story was so much fun to read.

A dating app, a friend acting on behalf of another, a bad date and a couple lies coming out, sounds like the perfect kind of book right? Totally right! This book has drama and laughs for days. It hooks you in completely from the beginning because even those little bits at the start of the chapter get you, they’re such an awesome part of the story, of the book.

Skylar is a fun, spunky girl who knows what she wants. She wants a guy who’s in it for the long haul and not one that won’t call the next day but finding that is proving to be hard for her so her bestie convinced her to set herself up on a dating site, what she doesn’t expect is what follows from there.

Abe is lovely and kind. Hell do anything for anyone especially his best friend. He’s a little bit of a pushover for him which is how he’s ended up acting on behalf of him on a dating site but what he wasn’t expecting is a beauty that swiped right to peek his interest.

I won’t go into further detail because oh my god you NEED to read this yourself to enjoy the full experience but believe me when I say, you will absolutely enjoy it!

Sara Ney is a pure genius when she’s bringing her characters to life. They all have different personalities and you just can’t help but love each of them. From Oz to Abe, they just steal your every thought and leave you thinking of nothing but them.

I’m really REALLY excited to see more coming from Sara, I can’t wait to hear more about Rex, that ending, injustice need more from him. I need his story.

The Lying Hours was fun and awkward. You’ll fall in love with the characters and wish you had more.

This has to be one of my top reads in 2019!

Normally I love these books but this felt a bit meh to me. I didn’t really warm to Skylar and I’m not sure how I feel about Abe and JB. The banter was bright and witty but overall it felt a bit formulaic and lacklustre to me.

Can be read as a standalone (although I’d read one of the others, from the series, they’re much better imho) complete story. Available on KU.

Every time I hear there is going to be more to this series I get so excited. Every book as been so good this book was just had good as the rest. I really enjoyed the story the way the characters met was so good. The banter between them was really good. But there is alway great banter in these books. It what make them so good. Once I started this book I couldn't put it down i was dying to know what was goin to happen between them.

Skylar is a great girl she is down to earth and so lied back. Her love life isn't the best so her friend talk her in to try the dating app. But that isn't easy either until she find JB well that's who she thinks it is. This guy is perfect she feels the connection to him straight away there conversion flows so easy. Until they meet.

Abe is a really great guy I luv him. He might be a push over in ways but he is just a great guy. He even helps he friend finds dates. Abe does have time for girls with studying and wrestling. But when he is talking to a girl for his friend JB something is different and he needs to know this girl better but she isn't talking to him she is talking to JB. But he can't help getting to know her better even if he is being someone else.

This was a great book the story is so sweet, funny, entertaining and a bit steamy. Skylar and Abe are just great together they ride isnt smooth. But with the way they met it never was. It was also great to get a bit more from past characters it alway great to get more of them. I luvd Skylar's best friend she was so funny the things this girl would come with was just brilliant. I would recommend this book it was just great. I'm looking forward to more of this series after that Epilogue the next book is goin to be amazing and just what I've been waiting for.

I really don't know where to go with this review. I actually don't know if I liked the book or if I just really wanted to like it or if I am just in a book slump and interpreting everything through shit smeared glasses.

I am such a fan of the How to Date a Douchebag series and when I saw that this one was releasing without me realising I stalked kindle for it only for it to pop up on KU and make my day. I have half a dozen ARCs I am supposed to be reading but I couldn't wait to read this one.

And since I picked it up I haven't put it down. So I didn't hate it I just didn't obsess over it. Skye was just meh to be honest. I didn't really care enough about her to get really invested. And Abe was a Douchebag and he never really did anything to make me change my opinion of that.

The highlights of the book were Zeke giving advice to Abe; Skye's roommate and the epilogue which was just a teaser for Hannah's novella which we can't get until August. But I don't know, it was worth reading especially since it was on KU but my expectations for this series are pretty high and this one just didn't quite hit it.

I don’t think I would have read this had I looked at the blurb. The catfishing thing...yuck.

Abe saved the book though. It was short. He was sweet. Parts of it made me laugh.

This is not a read that passes closer inspection. The writing is a mess - with some basic editing errors. It’s sexist. Juvenile. Hannah gets treated badly. Honestly, it was probably a two star read. The second star is the product of my shock at finishing it.

I miss Avon Gale.

Anche questa storia l'ho trovata molto carina e divertente, mi ha strappato più di un sorriso, ma rispetto all'altra, si è persa verso la fine, non aveva più granché senso

I AM WHO I AM, and who I am is a chick who likes to binge read NA sportsy romances.

I'm also the type who really probably needs a blog, because I never just stick to the review of the book, do I. Have I told y'all that I tutored athletes at a Big 10 college and I still do not get the 'fame' part-like everyone knows who the wrestlers are? Wrestlers were my most consistent sessions. (We can have a talk laaaaaaater about college athletics and all the problems therein. I have many opinions.) None of them acted like Oz or Zeke (though maybe the Oz and Zeke were big men on campus and never needed me, hmm). I bring this up b/c Abe was the first one who felt familiar. He was studious and polite. Without attitude. He's a super sweet hero, who likes to help people.

So that is a good thing. Because that feels more true than an Oz, even though we can all love Oz and I'm sure Oz exists all over college campuses. I would never talk to Oz, so I don't really know.

Where was I? Oh yes, well, normally, I would NEVER read a catfishing book. Inherently problematic. Before I realized this was a catfishing book, I was hooked because Abe is too damn cute. (And the catfishing was weird enough that it kind of crept up on everyone) And, refreshingly, the heroine in this wasn't the same heroine I felt like I have seen Ney employ time and again. And there was a decent cast, including my favorite *hands off* Zeke:

“Any other options?”
He checks his phone. “Violet says no.”
“You didn’t even ask!”
He shrugs. “She said what she said. I don’t have to ask her twice.”
A knot forms in my stomach that feels oddly like jealously. A relationship where there is no questioning the other person and their opinion is respected by default…

(Whispers: I like how Ney used the other 'fixer' who is totally opposite in personality but similar in spirit for this role here)

“Ohhh, I get it,” Daniels sing-songs.
“She’s coming today, isn’t she?” I don’t reply, so he keeps talking. “Are you ready to throw up? Is it making you nervous?”
“Would you shut up?”
“I can’t. I’m basically your matchmaker now.”
“No you’re not.”
“Yes I am. Without me, she wouldn’t have gone out with you again.”

Yes, two exchanges with Zeke Daniels b/c I love him. Sorry, not sorry.

Anyway, I really felt like this was a couple to root for. It's Ney, no one is perfect. Neither is she (see prior reviews re language like: jock chasers etc) but this was a sweet couple who understood their own worth, skirted unnecessary drama by talking to each other, had the necessary drama, and Hannah (Sky's best friend) was wonderfully fun.

Fully satisfying, and likely fully forgettable, so it's a 3.123585
