The Local Property Tax data for 2017 reveals that residents of Longford pay, on average, the least of any county in Ireland, while Dublin's four local authorities are all at the top of the list.

Revenue published updated LPT figures for last year this week that showed they had collected €451.7m through the measure in 2017,  spread across 1.9m properties in Ireland.

The national average paid last year was €234.89, but many counties saw their average fall well below this figure.

The lowest anywhere in the country was Longford, where the average LPT paid was €122.81.

Dublin's four local authorities combined gave the county the highest average of €325.94 but one of the four, Dun Laoghaire Rathdown, with an average of €525.50, pushed up the county's overall figure.

However, the other three Dublin local authorities  - Dublin city (€297.32), Fingal (€293.38) and South Dublin (€257.09) - were also above the national average.

The counties encircling Dublin were also near the top of the list with Wicklow property owners paying €313.43 on average, Kildare (€253.77) and Meath (€233).

Cork as a whole was just behind Meath with an average of €232.91 but Cork County residents (€238.55) pay slightly more than their City neighbours (€215.47)

At the bottom of the list, Leitrim property owners pay slightly more than Longford, averaging €129.63 in 2017 while three other counties nearby - Roscommon (€137.81) Cavan (€141.48) and Donegal (€151.23) - are also among the lowest average LPT rates in the country.
